2. Once upon a time . . .
• In February of 2007, somewhere in Russia, a
sick mother gave birth to a sick baby she knew
she couldn’t care for.
• This mom made the biggest sacrifice – she
gave her daughter to the government so her
daughter could be safe and healthy.
• And Tanya started her life in a Russian
institution.
3. Early Life
• For the first four years of her
life, Tanya lived in what is
known as a Baby Home
• God blessed her and this
home with a wonderful
organization that visited
regularly – and took pictures!
4. Fast Forward
• In August of 2011, my
sister Lis went on a
mission trip to Russia
where she would work
with orphans.
• Knowing that I’d always
planned to adopt, I joked
about her finding my
child . . .
5. The Picture
• When Lis returned home, she told me about
this little girl.
• She had not spent time with her, but when
they all got on the bus to go back to the
hotel, Lis’s friend Becky showed her a picture .

• As soon as I saw the picture, I knew she was a
part of my family.
• As soon as my family saw the picture, they
knew she was a part of our family.
• After much prayer, I decided to try to find this
little girl.
10. The Data Bank
• In 2005, the Russian Federal Ministry of
Education and Science created a data bank
that includes photo listings of all orphans
• It took looking through
hundreds of pictures, but late
one night, I found her.
11. Adoption
• It took a few more
months, but my
adoption agency
found her, too!
• I began the
process, and here we
are . . .
