Form Feng Shui in Office

We begin by looking at the disposition of furniture. I provided three simple tips in my blog,
Feng Shui DIY, that help to improve office Feng Shui, and two of them are related to Form
factors. Why? Because these changes are simple to make yet bring great effects. Here I’ll
give a full explanation of the Form Feng Shui requirements in office.

The Perfect Desk Setting

Below is the top view of a good office desk setting. In regardless of directions and
calculations, this is how an office should look like (the colors are irrelevant, just for
illustration purpose here, we shall learn about Feng Shui color later).

                Computer
                / Cabinet
                 on Desk Desk

                                              Seat

                                      Full Height Solid Wall

                                               3
Back - Solid Wall

It is of paramount importance to have a solid wall at the back. Why? It means support by
others and particularly your superior, which is critical to every person working in an office.
If the back of your seat is not firm and stable, e.g. an aisle, the sign of “flow” and
“movement” would affect your career life.

This is why in ancient China the emperors usually located their palace in front of a hill. If
you consider the palace as a whole as a working place, the hill at the back is a strong
support. If you have been to the Forbidden City (故宮) in Beijing in China, you could see a
hill called Jing Shan (景山) behind the palace, in the past Jing (景) literally means big.

The problem is, not everyone has the privilege to have his own room in the office. Many
people only have a desk with an aisle at the back. No problem, we can “create” an artificial
back support.

We can use material, color and quantity to build artificial Feng Shui. Basically you should
look for these:

    Material: stone or earth

    Color: yellow or brown

    Quantity: Eight (8)

The first two are quite simple. The last strategy, which many Feng Shui practitioners use, is
borrowed from Flying Star Feng Shui because the number 8 is of “earth” characteristic.

When I worked in an office as a summer intern (it was long long time ago…), my seat was in
the middle of the office, no wall behind, only an aisle where people walk here and there. It

                                              4
was terrible Feng Shui. What I did was to hang a brown jacket on the back of the chair. It
looks like a big brown object is behind my seat. Pretty simple, right?

Some people are a little bit luckier, they have a low-rise cabinet or partition behind. Not a
full-height solid wall, but not really bad. In this cast, you can place eight pebbles behind the
seat, in this arrangement (six in the middle, one below and one above):

Higher-Left Lower–Right

According to Form Feng Shui theory, left means benefactors (support) while right is bad
person (challenge). In the past, when people find a location to build a house, they look for
places where the mountain on the left is higher than the right.

We re-create the same in the office. The best situation is you have a full-height cabinet on
the left hand side of the desk. If not, put the desktop computer or piles of documents on
the left hand side of the desk. The ultimate goal is to have a higher-left and lower-right.

The Room

After looking at the desk, we zoom out to look at the whole room.

                                               5
Desk

                                                     Seat

The above is a preferred placement of your desk in your room in the office. If you sit in a
cubicle instead of a room, the same principle applies although there may be no door.

The advantages of this setting are:

 Your back is supported by a wall

 You can see the door when sitting while the door does not directly open into the
       desk

 The desk is located in a corner. Chi accumulates at corners, so you sit at where there
       is Chi to support you.

                                             6
Desk Seat

The above setting is also good because it satisfies the three criteria above.

Now you know how to choose a good location to place our desk, right? Simply apply the
above criteria, you can put your desk at the best location.

The Flying Stars

We have completed the crash course on Form Feng Shui for office, now you begin to “learn”
some calculation. Traditionally this is the most difficult part of Feng Shui because before
you do any calculation, you must learn fundamental theories including the five elements, I-
Qing, 9 flying stars, etc.

I want to make this “quick start guide” as practical as possible. I want you to start doing
Feng Shui in 5 minutes. So instead of spending 200 pages on these theories, I’ll cut corners
by not telling you how to arrive at the answers and tell you the answers straightaway. So
you’ll not “learn” the formula, you’ll get the fruit and enjoy directly.

The following is the flying star map of 2012. Please note that according to traditional Feng
Shui theories the map is printed upside down, i.e. South is on top. I have highlighted the
lucky directions in yellow.

                                                9
South

          5 1 3
                                    (San Sha 三煞)

          4 6 8
          9 2 7
                                          North

So for year 2012, East, South and West are good directions for office Feng Shui. However,
South is also where San Sha appears in 2012. So the strategy is not to carry out any building
works or fitting out in South direction. Besides, avoid placing anything “dynamic” there,
such as a Hi-Fi audio system or a pendulum clock.

For your convenience, I have separately printed the flying maps for 2012 to 2016 in the
bonus document – Feng Shui Office Action Guide.

                                             10
Your Personal Feng Shui

Now we come to the final part of our Feng Shui office quick start guide. We’ll see how to
manage your personal Feng Shui needs, the “people” factor. Again, I’ll cut the corners and
show you what to do instead of going through the difficult theories that only Feng Shui
masters would ever want to know.

Your Personal Lucky Colors

I have provided a list of lucky colors for each and every zodiac signs in my blog

Personal lucky colors help to increase your luck. One possible use of these colors is to use
personal accessories in these tones when you go to work. Besides, if you have an important
meeting, pick a tie or dress in anyone of these colors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Apply Office Feng Shui Principles to My Home Office? And How?

If you mainly work inside your study room (e.g. you are a programmer working at home),
and you spend the non-working hours in the living room, dining room and kitchen, you
could consider the study room as a separate entity.

In Feng Shui there is a saying, “一物一太極”, meaning that everything could be a separate

universe with its own center and eight directions. You could apply the Feng Shui principles I
taught in the previous chapters only to the study room. Find out the center point of the
study room and identify the eight directions. Determine if the door of the study room is
located in a good direction and layout the room to meet the Feng Shui office requirements.
Then consider the house as a separate entity. Of course, if the study room is located in a
good direction inside the house, that would be even better.

Some people use the front part of their houses as a shop to sell homemade products or
services, and live right in the rear part of the house. In this case, you first consider the
whole house as a single entity to allocate the key usages (i.e. common entrance door,
bedroom, business section and kitchen) to good directions. Then you could divide the
house into home and business sections and analyze the Feng Shui separately as if they are
individual buildings.

A third situation is the co-location of office and home in the same building but having
separated entrance doors for each use. In this case, you could simply consider the two
different parts as two houses and analyze separately. Actually in this case the building is the
same as the merger of two separate houses together. With separate entrance doors and
proper separation of uses, the Chi in two areas would not communicate.

                                              13
If for some reasons you cannot ensure that both parts have good Feng Shui and you are
forced to decide on which part to take up the best section of the house, I suggest the
domestic part should prevail. Experience told us that the Feng Shui of your home affects
your health, career, relationship… in a more all-round manner, while office Feng Shui mainly
affects the career. In some cases where the office Feng Shui could not be changed, merely
adjusting the home Feng Shui could still bring improvement in career. So the home Feng
Shui should prevail.

Do the Feng Shui Requirements Differ for Different Trades?

This Feng Shui guide is written specifically for the working class who mainly work inside an
office. Most of the requirements could be applied to situations where the person works in a
fixed space, may it be an office room, a cubicle or simply a desk. For example, the principal
of a junior school could apply the same principles to his own room, just as an accountant
applies these principles to his room. So the job nature does not make the Feng Shui
requirements significantly different.

However, different trades do have their respective five-element characters. For the choice
of colors (e.g. for interior decoration in the office), you may consider using the
representative colors of the trade according to the five-element characters to maximize
your luck.

Metal – Gold, Silver, White

Banking, finance, metal equipment manufacturing and processing, steel, wire and cable
industry, jewelry, machinery, precision industry, insurance, automotive, computer products,
electrical appliances, electronic parts, motors, watch, securities dealers, mining, musicians,
military, scientists

                                             14
Water – Blue, Black

Athletes, sales agents, real estate agents, lawyers, parliamentarians, book/news editor, film
director, comic, reporters, physicians, otolaryngologists, urologists, psychiatrists,
gynecologists, accountants, nurses, philosopher, tourism, transportation, aviation, cleaning,
shipping, telecommunications, laundry, refrigeration, fire protection, trading, retail,
transportation, logistics and other mobility industries.

Wood – Green, Lime

Judges, teachers, musicians, textile, cultural undertakings, printing and publishing, flower
gardening, herb shops, stationery, book stores, agricultural, timber, woodworking, furniture,
paper, wood technology, education, department stores, civil servants, religious leader,
politician, culture and education, clothing, nanny, social workers, industries using wood as
raw material, secretaries, Chinese medicine practitioners, lawyers, forestry and other wood-
related industries.

Fire – Red, Purple, Orange

Photographic equipment, eyewear, military, computer, electronics, telecommunications,
optics, oil industry, tobacco and alcohol, vendor of lighting fittings, critics, salon and beauty
industry, chemical engineering, restaurants, hot drinks and snacks, gas and oil, ceramics,
coal industry, food processing, welding, nuclear power industry, giftware industry,
information industry, energy, electricity, advertising, media, news, entertainment, apparel,
fireworks, food and beverage and fire-related industries

Earth – Yellow, Earth-tone

Real estate, geography, dermatologists, construction, judges, calligrapher, art galleries,
painters, cement processing, building materials, cosmetics, real estate transactions, stone
and stoneware industry, pawn, livestock, ceramics, antiques, nurseries, mining, building
foundation, farming, demolition industry, taxation, land acquisition, civil engineering, road
construction, agriculture and soil-related industries.

                                                 15
There are a few remarks. Firstly, you would be able to find some industries belonging to
more than one element. Why? Because these industries possess the natures of more than
one elements. For example, while gold mining is metal-related, the nature of the work is
earth. So mining could be found under “metal” and “earth” elements. Similarly, real estate
agents’ job relates to land but they need to go here and there, so this job belongs to both
“earth” and “water”.

Secondly, what if you cannot find your specific trade? You could tell the five-element
characteristic by analyzing the nature of the job. For example, if it has high mobility, it
belongs to water.

Thirdly, the colors are applied in relation to the trades, you should not mix them up with
your personal lucky colors. You may wear a tie in your best color while having your office
painted in the best color of your trade. Of course, if your personal lucky colors are the same
as your trade’s lucky colors, this is a perfect match.

Please also note that the whole purpose of this guidebook is to help people to do Feng Shui
for office. Retail shops and restaurants are different. For instance, the Feng Shui of the
head office of a restaurant chain is what this guidebook is written for, but the restaurants
should follow another set of Feng Shui principles that are not exactly the same.

Why? We talk about the nature of activities carried out. A retail shop is where goods are
displayed and the actual buy and sell carries out. The Feng Shui focus is on the main
entrance (where customers come in) and the cashier (where the shop owner receives
money). Similarly, the entrance, kitchen and cashier are the most important for a
restaurant.

                                               16
On the other hand, an office is where decision-making, communication and paper works are
carried out. Conference rooms and each person’s own room and cubicles are the most
critical areas to Feng Shui.

Unless right inside your shop there is an office where you sit in front of the computer to
answer emails, receive calls, plan your business and make decisions, then you could apply
Feng Shui office principles to that particular room. The office inside a restaurant could
follow the Feng Shui office principles.

This may sound a bit confusing but if you read the above again, you should be able to
understand. If you still don’t understand, shoot me an email.

Do the Feng Shui Requirements Differ for Different Buildings?

The nature of the building is not significantly material. The same principles apply to an
office in a commercial building in the central business district in the same way as a home
office in a residential building.

However, the shape of a building could matter. A triangular building belongs to the fire
element, so it is most suitable for a business belonging to the fire element. Since this Feng
Shui Office guidebook is written mainly for the working class who usually do not have
control over the building, I did not mention this in previous chapters. As a reference, here
are the five elements and shapes combinations:

Square – Earth

Long rectangular – Wood

Triangular – Fire

Circular – Metal

                                             17
Wave – Water

Similarly, you could also read the five-element of the floor number:

Last digit is 1 and 6 – Water

Last digit is 2 and 7 – Fire

Last digit is 3 and 8 – Wood

Last digit is 4 and 9 – Metal

Last digit is 5 and 0 – Earth

So, the head office of a financial institution (metal) should be located in a circular building
on the 4th, 9th, 14th, 19th, 24th, 29th, etc. floor.

See? As an employee you don’t really have a choice. And even if you are the business
owner would it be easy to find a building in wave shape if you business belongs to the water
element? So in most cases I simply ignore the shape of the building.

Do I Need to Buy Feng Shui Accessories?

Yes and no. Many Feng Shui masters are advocates of expensive Feng Shui accessories. I’m
not. There is nothing wrong with using these items, but I simply think they are
UNNECESSARY.

Proper Feng Shui practices are found on the calculation of five-elements. By using items of
the right quantity, color and shape, we could easily leverage the power of five elements.
And I use only commonly found items such as flower, wind chimes, pebbles, etc. The best of
all, these self-made Feng Shui accessories are not expensive. Say, even if you work in a

                                                       18
kindergarten or a county jail where some objects could not be used, you can paint the wall
of the office in a specific lucky color to Feng Shui your office.

If you feel more comfortable with using commercially-sold Feng Shui accessories, a
convenient place to shop them is Amazon (do you know Amazon sells Feng Shui products
apart from books?).

  • 3. Form Feng Shui in Office We begin by looking at the disposition of furniture. I provided three simple tips in my blog, Feng Shui DIY, that help to improve office Feng Shui, and two of them are related to Form factors. Why? Because these changes are simple to make yet bring great effects. Here I’ll give a full explanation of the Form Feng Shui requirements in office. The Perfect Desk Setting Below is the top view of a good office desk setting. In regardless of directions and calculations, this is how an office should look like (the colors are irrelevant, just for illustration purpose here, we shall learn about Feng Shui color later). Computer / Cabinet on Desk Desk Seat Full Height Solid Wall 3
  • 4. Back - Solid Wall It is of paramount importance to have a solid wall at the back. Why? It means support by others and particularly your superior, which is critical to every person working in an office. If the back of your seat is not firm and stable, e.g. an aisle, the sign of “flow” and “movement” would affect your career life. This is why in ancient China the emperors usually located their palace in front of a hill. If you consider the palace as a whole as a working place, the hill at the back is a strong support. If you have been to the Forbidden City (故宮) in Beijing in China, you could see a hill called Jing Shan (景山) behind the palace, in the past Jing (景) literally means big. The problem is, not everyone has the privilege to have his own room in the office. Many people only have a desk with an aisle at the back. No problem, we can “create” an artificial back support. We can use material, color and quantity to build artificial Feng Shui. Basically you should look for these:  Material: stone or earth  Color: yellow or brown  Quantity: Eight (8) The first two are quite simple. The last strategy, which many Feng Shui practitioners use, is borrowed from Flying Star Feng Shui because the number 8 is of “earth” characteristic. When I worked in an office as a summer intern (it was long long time ago…), my seat was in the middle of the office, no wall behind, only an aisle where people walk here and there. It 4
  • 5. was terrible Feng Shui. What I did was to hang a brown jacket on the back of the chair. It looks like a big brown object is behind my seat. Pretty simple, right? Some people are a little bit luckier, they have a low-rise cabinet or partition behind. Not a full-height solid wall, but not really bad. In this cast, you can place eight pebbles behind the seat, in this arrangement (six in the middle, one below and one above): Higher-Left Lower–Right According to Form Feng Shui theory, left means benefactors (support) while right is bad person (challenge). In the past, when people find a location to build a house, they look for places where the mountain on the left is higher than the right. We re-create the same in the office. The best situation is you have a full-height cabinet on the left hand side of the desk. If not, put the desktop computer or piles of documents on the left hand side of the desk. The ultimate goal is to have a higher-left and lower-right. The Room After looking at the desk, we zoom out to look at the whole room. 5
  • 6. Desk Seat The above is a preferred placement of your desk in your room in the office. If you sit in a cubicle instead of a room, the same principle applies although there may be no door. The advantages of this setting are:  Your back is supported by a wall  You can see the door when sitting while the door does not directly open into the desk  The desk is located in a corner. Chi accumulates at corners, so you sit at where there is Chi to support you. 6
  • 7. Desk Seat The above setting is also good because it satisfies the three criteria above. Now you know how to choose a good location to place our desk, right? Simply apply the above criteria, you can put your desk at the best location. 7

  • 9. The Flying Stars We have completed the crash course on Form Feng Shui for office, now you begin to “learn” some calculation. Traditionally this is the most difficult part of Feng Shui because before you do any calculation, you must learn fundamental theories including the five elements, I- Qing, 9 flying stars, etc. I want to make this “quick start guide” as practical as possible. I want you to start doing Feng Shui in 5 minutes. So instead of spending 200 pages on these theories, I’ll cut corners by not telling you how to arrive at the answers and tell you the answers straightaway. So you’ll not “learn” the formula, you’ll get the fruit and enjoy directly. The following is the flying star map of 2012. Please note that according to traditional Feng Shui theories the map is printed upside down, i.e. South is on top. I have highlighted the lucky directions in yellow. 9
  • 10. South 5 1 3 (San Sha 三煞) 4 6 8 9 2 7 North So for year 2012, East, South and West are good directions for office Feng Shui. However, South is also where San Sha appears in 2012. So the strategy is not to carry out any building works or fitting out in South direction. Besides, avoid placing anything “dynamic” there, such as a Hi-Fi audio system or a pendulum clock. For your convenience, I have separately printed the flying maps for 2012 to 2016 in the bonus document – Feng Shui Office Action Guide. 10
  • 11. Your Personal Feng Shui Now we come to the final part of our Feng Shui office quick start guide. We’ll see how to manage your personal Feng Shui needs, the “people” factor. Again, I’ll cut the corners and show you what to do instead of going through the difficult theories that only Feng Shui masters would ever want to know. Your Personal Lucky Colors I have provided a list of lucky colors for each and every zodiac signs in my blog (http://fengshuidiy.com/feng-shui-colors-find-the-best-feng-shui-colors-for-you/). Here is a re-cap of it: Rat: Gold, Silver, White, Blue, Gray and Black Ox: Red, Purple, Orange, Yellow, Brown Tiger: Blue, Gray, Black, Green, Lime Rabbit: Blue, Gray, Black, Green Lime Dragon: Red, Purple, Orange, Yellow, Brown Snake: Green, Lime, Red, Purple, Orange Horse: Green, Lime, Red, Purple, Orange Sheep: Red, Purple, Orange, Yellow, Brown Monkey: Yellow, Brown, Gold, Silver, White Rooster: Yellow, Brown, Gold, Silver, White Dog: Red, Purple, Organe, Yellow, Brown Pig: Gold, Silver, White, Blue, Gray, Black 11
  • 12. Photo by LifeSupercharger, CC Licence Personal lucky colors help to increase your luck. One possible use of these colors is to use personal accessories in these tones when you go to work. Besides, if you have an important meeting, pick a tie or dress in anyone of these colors. 12
  • 13. Frequently Asked Questions Can I Apply Office Feng Shui Principles to My Home Office? And How? If you mainly work inside your study room (e.g. you are a programmer working at home), and you spend the non-working hours in the living room, dining room and kitchen, you could consider the study room as a separate entity. In Feng Shui there is a saying, “一物一太極”, meaning that everything could be a separate universe with its own center and eight directions. You could apply the Feng Shui principles I taught in the previous chapters only to the study room. Find out the center point of the study room and identify the eight directions. Determine if the door of the study room is located in a good direction and layout the room to meet the Feng Shui office requirements. Then consider the house as a separate entity. Of course, if the study room is located in a good direction inside the house, that would be even better. Some people use the front part of their houses as a shop to sell homemade products or services, and live right in the rear part of the house. In this case, you first consider the whole house as a single entity to allocate the key usages (i.e. common entrance door, bedroom, business section and kitchen) to good directions. Then you could divide the house into home and business sections and analyze the Feng Shui separately as if they are individual buildings. A third situation is the co-location of office and home in the same building but having separated entrance doors for each use. In this case, you could simply consider the two different parts as two houses and analyze separately. Actually in this case the building is the same as the merger of two separate houses together. With separate entrance doors and proper separation of uses, the Chi in two areas would not communicate. 13
  • 14. If for some reasons you cannot ensure that both parts have good Feng Shui and you are forced to decide on which part to take up the best section of the house, I suggest the domestic part should prevail. Experience told us that the Feng Shui of your home affects your health, career, relationship… in a more all-round manner, while office Feng Shui mainly affects the career. In some cases where the office Feng Shui could not be changed, merely adjusting the home Feng Shui could still bring improvement in career. So the home Feng Shui should prevail. Do the Feng Shui Requirements Differ for Different Trades? This Feng Shui guide is written specifically for the working class who mainly work inside an office. Most of the requirements could be applied to situations where the person works in a fixed space, may it be an office room, a cubicle or simply a desk. For example, the principal of a junior school could apply the same principles to his own room, just as an accountant applies these principles to his room. So the job nature does not make the Feng Shui requirements significantly different. However, different trades do have their respective five-element characters. For the choice of colors (e.g. for interior decoration in the office), you may consider using the representative colors of the trade according to the five-element characters to maximize your luck. Metal – Gold, Silver, White Banking, finance, metal equipment manufacturing and processing, steel, wire and cable industry, jewelry, machinery, precision industry, insurance, automotive, computer products, electrical appliances, electronic parts, motors, watch, securities dealers, mining, musicians, military, scientists 14
  • 15. Water – Blue, Black Athletes, sales agents, real estate agents, lawyers, parliamentarians, book/news editor, film director, comic, reporters, physicians, otolaryngologists, urologists, psychiatrists, gynecologists, accountants, nurses, philosopher, tourism, transportation, aviation, cleaning, shipping, telecommunications, laundry, refrigeration, fire protection, trading, retail, transportation, logistics and other mobility industries. Wood – Green, Lime Judges, teachers, musicians, textile, cultural undertakings, printing and publishing, flower gardening, herb shops, stationery, book stores, agricultural, timber, woodworking, furniture, paper, wood technology, education, department stores, civil servants, religious leader, politician, culture and education, clothing, nanny, social workers, industries using wood as raw material, secretaries, Chinese medicine practitioners, lawyers, forestry and other wood- related industries. Fire – Red, Purple, Orange Photographic equipment, eyewear, military, computer, electronics, telecommunications, optics, oil industry, tobacco and alcohol, vendor of lighting fittings, critics, salon and beauty industry, chemical engineering, restaurants, hot drinks and snacks, gas and oil, ceramics, coal industry, food processing, welding, nuclear power industry, giftware industry, information industry, energy, electricity, advertising, media, news, entertainment, apparel, fireworks, food and beverage and fire-related industries Earth – Yellow, Earth-tone Real estate, geography, dermatologists, construction, judges, calligrapher, art galleries, painters, cement processing, building materials, cosmetics, real estate transactions, stone and stoneware industry, pawn, livestock, ceramics, antiques, nurseries, mining, building foundation, farming, demolition industry, taxation, land acquisition, civil engineering, road construction, agriculture and soil-related industries. 15
  • 16. There are a few remarks. Firstly, you would be able to find some industries belonging to more than one element. Why? Because these industries possess the natures of more than one elements. For example, while gold mining is metal-related, the nature of the work is earth. So mining could be found under “metal” and “earth” elements. Similarly, real estate agents’ job relates to land but they need to go here and there, so this job belongs to both “earth” and “water”. Secondly, what if you cannot find your specific trade? You could tell the five-element characteristic by analyzing the nature of the job. For example, if it has high mobility, it belongs to water. Thirdly, the colors are applied in relation to the trades, you should not mix them up with your personal lucky colors. You may wear a tie in your best color while having your office painted in the best color of your trade. Of course, if your personal lucky colors are the same as your trade’s lucky colors, this is a perfect match. Please also note that the whole purpose of this guidebook is to help people to do Feng Shui for office. Retail shops and restaurants are different. For instance, the Feng Shui of the head office of a restaurant chain is what this guidebook is written for, but the restaurants should follow another set of Feng Shui principles that are not exactly the same. Why? We talk about the nature of activities carried out. A retail shop is where goods are displayed and the actual buy and sell carries out. The Feng Shui focus is on the main entrance (where customers come in) and the cashier (where the shop owner receives money). Similarly, the entrance, kitchen and cashier are the most important for a restaurant. 16
  • 17. On the other hand, an office is where decision-making, communication and paper works are carried out. Conference rooms and each person’s own room and cubicles are the most critical areas to Feng Shui. Unless right inside your shop there is an office where you sit in front of the computer to answer emails, receive calls, plan your business and make decisions, then you could apply Feng Shui office principles to that particular room. The office inside a restaurant could follow the Feng Shui office principles. This may sound a bit confusing but if you read the above again, you should be able to understand. If you still don’t understand, shoot me an email. Do the Feng Shui Requirements Differ for Different Buildings? The nature of the building is not significantly material. The same principles apply to an office in a commercial building in the central business district in the same way as a home office in a residential building. However, the shape of a building could matter. A triangular building belongs to the fire element, so it is most suitable for a business belonging to the fire element. Since this Feng Shui Office guidebook is written mainly for the working class who usually do not have control over the building, I did not mention this in previous chapters. As a reference, here are the five elements and shapes combinations: Square – Earth Long rectangular – Wood Triangular – Fire Circular – Metal 17
  • 18. Wave – Water Similarly, you could also read the five-element of the floor number: Last digit is 1 and 6 – Water Last digit is 2 and 7 – Fire Last digit is 3 and 8 – Wood Last digit is 4 and 9 – Metal Last digit is 5 and 0 – Earth So, the head office of a financial institution (metal) should be located in a circular building on the 4th, 9th, 14th, 19th, 24th, 29th, etc. floor. See? As an employee you don’t really have a choice. And even if you are the business owner would it be easy to find a building in wave shape if you business belongs to the water element? So in most cases I simply ignore the shape of the building. Do I Need to Buy Feng Shui Accessories? Yes and no. Many Feng Shui masters are advocates of expensive Feng Shui accessories. I’m not. There is nothing wrong with using these items, but I simply think they are UNNECESSARY. Proper Feng Shui practices are found on the calculation of five-elements. By using items of the right quantity, color and shape, we could easily leverage the power of five elements. And I use only commonly found items such as flower, wind chimes, pebbles, etc. The best of all, these self-made Feng Shui accessories are not expensive. Say, even if you work in a 18
  • 19. kindergarten or a county jail where some objects could not be used, you can paint the wall of the office in a specific lucky color to Feng Shui your office. If you feel more comfortable with using commercially-sold Feng Shui accessories, a convenient place to shop them is Amazon (do you know Amazon sells Feng Shui products apart from books?). 19
