The present continuous tense
 Often used for activities or situation that temporary
rather than permanent.
 The moment of speaking
Example : I am talking about continuous tenses right now
 A specific period of time including the present
Example : I am taking structure 3 this semester
 Reference to the future
Example : Kiki is moving on Friday

POSITIVE (+)
I + am + V ing + object/ adverb
Example : I am standing in front of the class now
He/she/it + is + V ing + object/ adverb
Example : He is driving his motorcycle
We/they/you + are + V ing + object/ adverb
Example : You are writing a note

NEGATIVE (-)
 I + am not + V ing + object/ adverb
Example : I am not singing in front of the class now
He/she/it + is not + V ing + object/ adverb
Example :He is not driving his motorcycle
We/they/you + are not + V ing + object/ adverb
Example : We are not playing kite now
The moment of speaking
Now, right now, at the moment, at present, so on
Example : I am explaining about Time Expression right
now.
A specific period of time including the present
Today, this morning, this quarter, this year
Example : Kevin is studying Japanese this quarter
Reference to the future
In a few minutes, at 12.00, tomorrow, next semester, and so
on.
Example : Yong Hwa is taking Ecology class next semester.
The past continious
tense
 Describes actions in progress in the past
 Event in the recent past
 Example : I was just looking for a new pen
 Event at a specific time in the past
 Example : At that time, I was still working in a cafe.
 Description of a scene
 Example : It was a beautiful night when I was playing
my old guitar.
 Activities during a period of time in the past
 Example : I was doing homework during the morning.

Example : I was not looking for a new book

Time expressions
 In the recent past
 A moment (hour, week) ago, 2 years ago, just, at that
time, so on
Example : Two years ago, I was living with my parents
 At a point of time in the past
 At + specific time ; When + simple past tense ;
As/while + past continuous tense
Example : When I was sleeping, someone knocked
the door.
The future continious tense
 Refers to actions that will be in progress in the
future.
 A point in time in the future
 Example : Kim will be playing tennis at 9
tomorrow morning
 A period of time in the future
 Example : Tina will be cooking some cakes
between 08.00 and 10.00.

Example : Yuna will be landing in Jeju Island at 05.00

 (-) S + will not+ be + V ing + Object/adverb
Example : She will not be landing in London at
04.00 pm.

 A point in time in the future
At 1:00 (2:00), by (at) that time, next Monday, at
noon, tomorrow night, at this time tomorrow (next
week), and so on.
 Example : Mario will be playing a show tomorrow night.
 A period of time in the future
During the afternoon (evening), from 4:00 to 7:00,
next week (month), and so on.
 Example : Maurer will be shooting between 03.00 and
05.00 pm.
