3. What is ELM ?
Elder Law of Michigan is a mission Driven nonprofit,
501(c)(3) organization which offers innovative programs
and services to meet the needs of a maturing
society. ELM is the most trusted resource for mature
adults to ensure that they are safe, informed, treated fairly
and economically secure:
Promotes and protects the rights
Health
Economic well-being
of older adults and people with disabilities
ELM provides information, advocacy, legal advice, and
professional services.
We want individuals and their caregivers to be able to

6. Three Main Focus Areas
Elder Law of Michigan (ELM) has three main focus
areas to help protect individuals as they age and
people with disabilities:
1. Legal Services
2. Economic Security
3. Personal Health and Safety
These three areas act as an umbrella for ELM’s
individual programs.
The diagram on the next slide represents the three
main focus areas of ELM and shows each individual
program. Some programs meet the mission of more
than one focus area and further enhancing the
mission of ELM.

8. What is the Legal Hotline?
The legal Hotline is designed for:
People age 60 and older to call
Receive free legal advice
Get answers to legal questions
The nature of the calls the hotline receives are regarding, but are
not limited to:
Garnishment,
Eviction
Foreclosure
The Legal hotline celebrated 20 years in 2010!!!
How the Hotline works:
Just a Phone Call Away at: 1-800-347-5297
Usually, an appointment is set to have a lawyer call back the
same day!
9. The Mid-America Pension Rights Project:
Searches for retirement benefits
Advises individuals about their pension rights
Actively works to resolve pension and other retirement
benefit disputes
10. Michigan's Coordinated Access to Food for the Elderly (MiCAFE)
is a program that:
• Assists older adults in applying for public benefits
and
• Helps ensure that they are economically secure as
they age.
11. Staff at the Benefits Enrollment and Options Center help identify benefits
individuals may qualify for. These include:
• Food Assistance
• Medicaid
• Veteran's Benefits
• Help with Medicare premiums for Part B and D
• Help with heating costs
• Foreclosure prevention
• Help with prescription drugs
• Unclaimed pensions
• Tax credits
• Tax relief
