- Hello and welcome. My name is Vin Vu. I will be your host and co-presenter along with Mr. Kevin Boyd, for this webinar. First of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to attend the second in our series of 3 webinars specific to our mobile computing device Ci7 –Ex. It is our intent and hope that you will find these webinars informative and that they give you some insight into how ecom can help you deliver solutions and business benefits to your customers. This webinar will be presented in key sections: We will present a very brief overview of ecom instruments... We then will cover the i.roc Ci70 Wireless Area Network – what is it, how it is integrated, and its capabilities. Then provide some use-case scenario examples to help you see how W-WAN capabilities can be leveraged to increase your Return On Investment. As stated this is the 2nd of 3 webinars. The next and final in this series webinar be covering the benefits of using RFID technology in hazardous areas. - We have previously covered in greater details about ecom instruments and the Basics of Explosion Protection on the 1st webinar For this 2nd webinar we will provide a high-level refresher to put into context Wireless WAN for the i.roc Ci-70. Before going any further, the term WWAN may unfamiliar to some of you, so what is it? WWAN, or Wireless Wide Area Network, is just another name for your mobile phone network or cellular network.
- Customer´s safety is ecom´s business With integration partners we deliver intrinsically-safe Mobile Solutions for Hazardous Areas. ecom instruments is a pioneer and the world´s leading manufacturer of mobile devices for use in potentially explosive areas in various sectors. So… Why does a customer need to use intrinsically safe devices? Customers working from the oil & gas, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food and mining industry are faced with the risk of explosive atmospheres due to the processes and substances on their daily work. Explosion protection for everyday industrial use is mandatory for the sectors mentioned on this slide. Those companies are facing high risks, insurance expenses and liability compensation. In order to prevent damage to people, the facility and to the environment, strict regulations according to laws and insurance specifications have to be fulfilled. One major action is to ensure that solely explosion protected equipment is used in those hazardous areas. Even non-i.s. devices which are switched off are not safe in a potentially explosive environment!
- ecom instruments was founded in 1986 as a three man enterprise from Germany. Today we are approximately 300 employees worldwide. Throughout the years we have achieved several „worlds first“ such as the worlds first Mobile phone in 1994, the worlds first PDA in 1999, in 2013 we have achieved the worlds first PDA with WWAN functionality. We have covered the i.roc Ci70 device in more details on the 1st Webinar; for this webinar, we will only focus on the high-level aspect of the device, and provide more detailed emphasis on the Wireless capability. The Ci70’s design is optimized for field mobility environments. We now offer this solution with Wireless WAN in addition to the standard Wireless LAN also known as WiFi. Having both WWAN & WLAN on the same device extend our radio connectivity. Staying true to our principle of being the technology leader in intrinsically safe protection arena – we now offer the only Zone 1 / Division 1 PDA in the industry with both WWAN and WLAN enabled.
- The addition of Wireless WAN capability in the Ci70 allows you to expand the reach of the connectivity to the mobile computing user. In allowing you to bring this same asset lifecycle tracking to widely dispersed assets and sites; there are fewer boundaries – providing the workers to stay connected and sending/receiving realtime data from anywhere to anywhere. With the Wireless WAN module integrated and enabled, you now have an i.roc Ci70 device that can operate anywhere in the world with global compatibility. For example, in the United States – the i.roc Ci70 can be used on the major carrier networks – AT&T and Verizon. It is also compatible with Sprint network, which is currently under consideration at ecom and market introduction will depend on customer demand. Of course, the Ci70 with Wireless is compatible with the global GSM network, so it can be used anywhere in the world where GSM network is available.
- At the product level – i.roc Ci70 with Wireless WAN enabled key takeaways are: Increased range in communication, meaning you are no longer dependent on just WiFi Wireless LAN signals. With the device in constant communication – your data can be up-to-date on an immediate basis.
