3. 3
1 Kings 5 1 And
Hiram king of Tyre
sent his servants unto
Solomon; for he had
heard that they had
anointed him king in
the room of his father:
for Hiram was ever a
lover of David. King Hiram chose to love
Solomon for his daddy’s sake.
4. 4
2 And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying, 3 Thou
knowest how that David my father could not build
an house unto the Name of the LORD his God for
the wars which were about him on every side, until
the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
5. 5
1 Chronicles 22 7 And David said to Solomon, My
son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house
unto the Name of the LORD my God: 8 But the
Word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast
shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars:
thou shalt not build an house unto My Name,
because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth
in My Sight.
God didn’t say that David did wrong;
It just disqualified him to build The Lord’s temple.
6. 6
4 But now the LORD my God hath given me rest
on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor
evil occurrent (event or incident).
God had given David victory over all the
neighboring tribes; Solomon didn’t have
to shed much blood.
Solomon was not a warrior;
he was an intellectual.
7. 7
5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the
Name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake
unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I
will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build
an house unto My Name.
God promised David that Solomon would build
the temple, and Solomon is getting started.
Will you do what God wants you to do?
When?
8. 8
6 Now therefore command thou that they hew me
cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall
be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire
for thy servants according to all that thou shalt
appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among
us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the
Sidonians.
King Hiram could name his price;
Solomon would pay.
King Hiram’s people were the best loggers around.
9. 9
7 And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words
of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said,
Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given
unto David a wise son over this great people.
King Hiram honored the Lord God of Israel.
He rejoiced and praised The Lord for giving
such a wise son over David’s people.
10. 10
8 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have
considered the things which thou sentest to me for:
and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of
cedar, and concerning timber of fir.
“I will send you all the logs you need.”
Solomon had not asked for a free gift, and Hiram
didn’t offer to give him one.
It was a fair deal.
11. 11
9 My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon
unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in
floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and
will cause them to be discharged there, and thou
shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my
desire, in giving food for my household. 10 So
Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees
according to all his desire.
12. 12
Hiram suggested that the logs be transported to
Solomon on rafts and offered to be responsible for
this. However, Hiram wanted something in return:
food for his royal household.

This is no small price, but it’s fair.
Solomon needs a lot of timber.
13. 13
1 Thessalonians 4 11 And that ye study to be quiet,
and to do your own business, and to work with
your own hands, as we commanded you; 12 That ye
may walk honestly toward them that are without,
and that ye may have lack of nothing.
This is God’s Plan for our success.
Live a quiet life.
Get a good job and work hard.
Be completely honest.
14. 14
Galatians 6:10 (KJV) As we have therefore
opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially
unto them who are of the household of faith.
In our business dealings, we should not
charge too much, nor pay too little.
Charity is a good thing for those who are in need,
but each should do for himself what he can.
15. 15
So, Solomon and Hiram made a fair deal.
God expects such honesty in His children.
We are not outlaws or victims.
We are the sons and daughters of
The Most High God.
Buying something or hiring someone,
pay what it’s worth.
Selling something or working for someone,
charge what it’s worth.
16. 16
11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand
measures of wheat for food to his household, and
twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to
Hiram year by year.
Solomon agreed to the arrangement and each year
gave him 125,000 bushels of wheat and 115,000
gallons of... olive oil. Barley and wine were also
included (2 Chron. 2:10).

Year by year
17. 17
12 And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as He
promised him: and there was peace between Hiram
and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
Without the wisdom that God gave him, Solomon
may have spurned a treaty with Hiram.
Having a treaty gave Israel peace with their
neighbor, and got the timber needed for the temple.
18. 18
13 And King Solomon raised a levy (a tax in the
form of forced labor) out of all Israel; and the levy
was thirty thousand men. 14 And he sent them to
Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a
month they were in Lebanon, and two months at
home: and Adoniram was over the levy.
19. 19
15 And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand
that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers
in the mountains; 16 Beside the chief of Solomon's
officers which were over the work, three thousand
and three hundred, which ruled over the people that
wrought in the work.
70,000 unskilled men to fetch and carry
80,000 men skilled to cut timber and stone
3,300 bosses
These were men that Solomon furnished.
20. 20
17 And the king commanded, and they brought great
stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the
foundation of the house. 18 And Solomon's builders
and Hiram's builders did hew them, and the
stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones
to build the house.
They are getting all the materials together.
To do anything, we have to get started.
Procrastination is the enemy
of accomplishment.
