Talk di Juan Arevalo & Marco Giacomassi | Drupal Day Roma 2011 The Open Data movement is now moving a step forward, many governments, institutions and business have recently started the process of making information available to citizens and customers. Data is now seen as a powerful instrument to increase transparency in public administration and business on policies. About 80% of this information has a spatial component that is not entirely exploited yet. A range of open source solutions are now available to address this challenge, in this session we will explore their potential and possible applications. The so-called “data deluge” is here.. but we can build good umbrellas. Please come to learn more about it!

Spatial Data Infrastructures developed at national and international level correspond to the strategy adopted by governments to support the emergence of a society spatially enabled, i.e. able to benefit from the geospatial data. At the local level, with reference to the smart city paradigm, a city -or community- answers to the "smart" requirement in its broadest sense, if the ICT solutions adopted to improve the lives of the community contribute, at the same time, to the emergence of spatially enabled citizens and businesses, thus allowing them access and use of geospatial data. Smart cities’ SDIs play a key role in supporting the creation of a favorable environment for the spatial data sharing. Then, they may help the creation of spatially enabled cities, assigning a central function to their users; an SDI designed and managed adopting a user-centric vision, i.e. focused on the understanding of the needs of individuals and of their point of view, with respect to the geospatial data exploit, increases users' spatial practical ability, hence their spatial enablement. In this context Semantics and Linked Open Data play a potentially political role in the creation of common, shared and searchable contents: spatially enabled citizens become the basis of a shared and recognized infrastructure.

The HDF-EOS Tools and Information Center

H2020 BigDataEurope is a flagship project of the European Union's Horizon 2020 framework programme for research and innovation. In this talk we present the Docker-based BigDataEurope platform, which integrates a variety of Big Data processing components such as Hive, Cassandra, Apache Flink and Spark. Particularly supporting the variety dimension of Big Data, it adds a semantic data processing layer, which allows to ingest, map, transform and exploit semantically enriched data. In this talk, we will present the innovative technical architecture as well as applications of the BigDataEurope platform for life sciences (OpenPhacts), mobility, food & agriculture as well as industrial analytics (predictive maintenance). We demonstrate how societal value can be generated by Big Data analytics, e.g. making transportation networks more efficient or facilitating drug research.

The objectives of this work were to study a series of advanced aspects that an organization can consider when expose data through an OpenService. I studied the problems relative to the implementation of Added Value Services using the information exposed through an OpenAPI, in particular a complex route planner that combines both timetables and real-time data on the public transport. The exposed information can also be used by a byzantine user to infer whether a service provider is respecting the terms of its SLA. Obviously an organization do not want to expose data that would allow to infer this kind of information; therefore arises the problem of studying what is the right tradeoff that allows to have a sort of protection but, a the same time, maintain the openness of the data. The solution studied for this work have been applied to the real case of OpenTrasporti (a project by the Italian Ministry for Transportation and Infrastructures)

These slides were used in a presentation at the "Our Digital Future - Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Long Term Data Preservation and Access" conference in Cambridge/UK in March 2016 in the session "Current and Future perspectives on technology for data preservation and sharing". They describe work in progress in the E-ARK project, which is co-funded by the European Commission and has as its main objective the creation of a scalable open source, digital archiving system offering efficent search and access content of very large digital object collections. The focus of this presentation lies on describing the core big data technologies (Apache Hadoop, Apache Hbase, and the document repository Lily developed by NGData), the architecture of the E-ARK integrated prototype implementation, and data mining use cases related to geographical data, named entitity extraction, and OLAP data analysis.

Talk di Paola Amicucci | Drupal Day Roma 2011 <br> Intersos è una delle più grandi Organizzazioni Non Governative italiane, che opera a favore delle popolazioni in pericolo. Attraverso il portale Intersos diffonde una voce libera sulle situazioni critiche nel mondo, espone le attività che mette in atto e raccoglie donazioni indispensabili per il suo operato. Circa due anni fa è iniziato il nostro processo di informatizzazione, partito da un rifacimento del nostro sito. In quell'occasione ci è stato proposto Drupal come sistema in grado di permetterci di gestire autonomamente gli inserimenti sul portale. Non conoscevamo le sue potenzialità ma apprezzavamo la scelta di un software open, in linea con la nostra etica interna. Oggi Drupal gestisce il nostro portale ma non solo: ci permette di raccogliere molte più donazioni che in passato e ci permette di gestire i nostri contatti, fornirgli nuovi servizi, mantenere rapporto con loro, e informarli delle nostre attività in Italia e all'estero. In questo talk vorremmo raccontare la nostra esperienza di saving, rinnovamento tecnologico e scelta etica.

Deep Learning is now the standard in object detection, but it is not easy to analyze large amounts of images, especially in an interactive fashion. Traditionally, there has been a gap between Deep Learning frameworks, which excel at image processing, and more traditional ETL and data science tools, which are usually not designed to handle huge batches of complex data types such as images. In this talk, we show how manipulating large corpora of images can be accomplished in a few lines of code because of recent developments in Apache Spark. Thanks to Spark’s unique ability to blend different libraries, we show how to start from satellite images and rapidly build complex queries on high level information such as houses or buildings. This is possible thanks to Magellan, a geospatial package, and Deep Learning Pipelines, a library that streamlines the integration of Deep Learning frameworks in Spark. At the end of this session, you will walk away with the confidence that you can solve your own image detection problems at any scale thanks to the power of Spark.

SafeGraph is a data company — just a data company — that aims to be the source of truth for data on physical places. We are focused on creating high-precision geospatial data sets specifically about places where people spend time and money. We have business listings, building footprint data, and foot traffic insights for over 7 million across multiple countries and regions. In this talk, we will inspect the challenges with geospatial processing, running at a large scale. We will look at open-source frameworks like Apache Sedona (incubating) and its key improvements over conventional technology, including spatial indexing and partitioning. We will explore spatial data structure, data format, and open-source indexing like H3. We will illustrate how all of these fit together in a cloud-first architecture running on Databricks, Delta, MLFlow, and AWS. We will explore examples of geospatial analysis with complex geometries and practical use cases of spatial queries. Lastly, we will discuss how this is augmented by Machine Learning modeling, Human-in-the-loop (HITL) annotation, and quality validation.

As the volume and complexity of data from myriad Earth Observing platforms, both remote sensing and in-situ increases so does the demand for access to both data and information products from these data. The audience no longer is restricted to an investigator team with specialist science credentials. Non-specialist users from scientists from other disciplines, science-literate public, to teachers, to the general public and decision makers want access. What prevents them from this access to resources? It is the very complexity and specialist developed data formats, data set organizations and specialist terminology. What can be done in response? We must shift the burden from the user to the data provider. To achieve this our developed data infrastructures are likely to need greater degrees of internal code and data structure complexity to achieve (relatively) simpler end-user complexity. Evidence from numerous technical and consumer markets supports this scenario. We will cover the elements of modern data environments, what the new use cases are and how we can respond to them.

Science and more specifically projects using HPC is facing a digital data explosion. Instruments and simulations are producing more and more volume; data can be shared, mined, cited, preserved… They are a great asset, but they are facing risks: we can miss storage, we can lose them, they can be misused,… To start this session, we will review why it is important to manage research data and how to do this by maintaining a Data Management Plan. This will be based on the best practices from EUDAT H2020 project and European Commission recommendation. During the second part we will interactively draft a DMP for a given use case.

The Linked Map project is part of the FP7 PlanetData project (http://planet-data.eu/), whose aim is to help organisations to get their big amounts of data exposed online in a useful form with quality. Regarding to this goal and as demonstration of the LMS technology (a transparent semantic proxy for WMS 1.3.0), the project Linked Map has developed a Web platform (http://linkedmap.unizar.es/crowdsourcing-platform/). This platform enables users to assess the quality of an automatic integration of INSPIRE data and Volunteer Geographic Information (VGI). The platform uses a LMS instance. This demonstration involves an experiment that combines in a meaningful way a big INSPIRE dataset that contains data from Annex I and Annex III themes (BCN/BTN25) with VGI data (OpenStreetMap). The Linked Map project was developed by IAAA Lab (Universidad Zaragoza) and GeoSpatiumLab. These slides were presented at JIIDE 2014 (Lisbon)

Behat è nato per semplificare il processo di accettazione da parte del cliente: per evitare ambiguità si realizza un test automatico (leggibile anche da chi non ha competenze tecniche) la cui esecuzione con successo garantisce che le specifiche siano rispettate. L'integrazione di Behat nel processo di sviluppo Drupal permette tuttavia di andare ben oltre: si può usare Behat per condividere le specifiche con il cliente, per guidare lo sviluppo (scrivendo il test prima del codice), per assistere il debug (usando uno scenario per popolare una situazione di errore ripetibile) e persino per migrare un sito da Drupal 7 a Drupal 8 (codificando il comportamento del sito in una serie di test che vengono poi usati come base per lo sviluppo del nuovo sito). Molte cose sono cambiate sia a livello di architettura che di funzionalità messe a disposizione degli sviluppatori. Integrazione con il Core - integrazione nativa con il modulo Toolbar del Core - pagine di informazione sul Service Container, le rotte, le entità, gli eventi e molto altro - cambio rapido di utente - accesso in lettura e modifica dei dati memorizzati nel Configuration Management System e nelle State API - estensioni di Twig per il dump delle variabili o l'impostazione di breakpoint per xDebug Dumpers Un sistema a plugin per stampare in pagina variabili complesse come array ed oggetti. Kint, Symfony var-dumper, Doctrine, sono tutti supportati e presenti di default in Devel. Webprofiler Profila e analizza ogni singola pagina del sito. Dalla toolbar che Webprofiler aggiunge al footer di ogni pagina hai una visione sull'utilizzo delle risorse, sulle query al database, sulle viste, sui blocchi e molto altro. di Luca Lusso

This concept was first introduced at a conference held at Dartmouth College, where programs demonstrated capabilities such as playing chess, proving theorems, and interpreting texts. In the early stages, Alan Turing contributed to the field by defining intelligence as the ability of a being to respond to certain questions intelligently, proposing what is now known as the Turing Test to evaluate the presence of intelligent behavior in machines. As the decades progressed, AI evolved significantly. The 1980s focused on machine learning, teaching computers to learn from data, leading to the development of models that could improve their performance based on their experiences. The 1990s and 2000s saw further advances in algorithms and computational power, which allowed for more sophisticated data analysis techniques, including data mining. By the 2010s, the proliferation of big data and the refinement of deep learning techniques enabled AI to become mainstream. Notable milestones included the success of Google's AlphaGo and advancements in autonomous vehicles by companies like Tesla and Waymo. A major theme of the presentation is the application of generative AI, which has been used for tasks such as natural language text generation, translation, and question answering. Generative AI uses large datasets to train models that can then produce new, coherent pieces of text or other media. The presentation also discusses the ethical implications and the need for regulation in AI, highlighting issues such as privacy, bias, and the potential for misuse. These concerns have prompted calls for comprehensive regulations to ensure the safe and equitable use of AI technologies. Artificial intelligence has also played a significant role in healthcare, particularly highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it was used in drug discovery, vaccine development, and analyzing the spread of the virus. The capabilities of AI in healthcare are vast, ranging from medical diagnostics to personalized medicine, demonstrating the technology's potential to revolutionize fields beyond just technical or consumer applications. In conclusion, AI continues to be a rapidly evolving field with significant implications for various aspects of society.
