3 – 8 MARCH 2009 · HANNOVER
www.cebit.com Updated version, September 2008
2. WELCOME TO CeBIT 2009
PROFIT FROM THE NEW UPSWING IN THE MARKET
More content, more visitors, more business: In 2008 the No.1 marketplace for digital
solutions, trends and innovations once again inspired and energized the international ICT
industry. With exhibitors reporting over ten million business inquiries in just six days, CeBIT
is proof that the market is on the up once more. There’s a new mood of optimism sweeping
through the ICT industry – and your successful business future starts here!
New technologies, new trends and developments, cutting-edge innovations – as the top
meeting place for the digital industry CeBIT is ideal for making new contacts. An engine
driving innovation – and the international forum of choice for knowledge sharing. Leading
representatives of business, science and government use the show as a platform for dis-
cussing and driving forward the future of ICT. All this creates a vibrant, dynamic environ-
ment, full of exciting potential for your business.
Boasting more to see and more opportunities, CeBIT never stands still. New display cate-
gories are constantly being introduced, and hot topics of the day, such as eHealth, green
IT and mobility, are put centre stage at the show. At the same time an informative and
high-quality congress program serves to increase visitor numbers still further – around half
a million in 2008, from Germany and all over the world. 80 per cent were trade visitors.
And now you can mobilize additional business potential at cebit.com – a new service
launched for 2009, which gives you a round-the-clock online presence in the world’s No.1
digital marketplace. Putting your business online 24 / 7 considerably extends your reach
and lets you make business contacts quickly and easily, at home and abroad.
New services, a clear display concept and a concerted campaign of visitor recruitment are
designed to build on CeBIT’s strong position as the most important event of the year in the
ICT business calendar. CeBIT 2009 is going to be a highlight, so make sure you’re in on the
action, presenting your products and solutions at the world’s No.1 digital marketplace!
Yours sincerely,
Ernst Raue, Member of the Board at Deutsche Messe

10. HIGHLIGHTS IN 2008
PLAN TO SUCCEED ON EVERY LEVEL
The world’s leading ICT show once again proved an all-round success. New additions
to the program such as green IT and the new-look CeBIT Global Conferences, plus strong
growth in all display categories and the successful introduction of new themes, have further
strengthened CeBIT’s leading position in the marketplace.
Under the tagline “Improving Life for the Global Village” the CeBIT Global Conferences
,
addressed issues of topical interest across the ICT industry. Distinguished speakers pre-
sented their visions for information technology, finance & controlling, marketing & sales,
human resources, manufacturing and procurement & logistics. Topical issues such as the
sustainable use of modern information and communication technologies for business and
society were discussed by speakers and visitors. The CeBIT Global Conferences served to
attract additional target groups to Hannover from all sectors of industry, including profes-
sionals working in purchasing, marketing, sales, PR and controlling.
Energy efficiency and environmental protection are important issues today, not least
for the ICT industry – where they offer substantial business potential. With this year’s
“green IT” presentation CeBIT has created the first-ever platform for the digital business
community to address this central social challenge. CeBIT presented a range of solutions
and innovations for cutting carbon emissions. From power-saving laptops to computer
centres with a small carbon footprint – in 2008 exhibitors in Hannover showed that the
ICT industry acknowledges its environmental responsibilities, and is facing up to them
with imagination and resourcefulness.
Hannover is where the top people
from government, science and
high-tech industry come together.
CeBIT is fast becoming the Davos
of the ICT industry.
August-Wilhelm Scheer, BITKOM
10 www.cebit.com
11. HIGHLIGHTS IN 2009
LOOKING AHEAD: HIGHLIGHTS IN 2009
Last year’s cutting-edge high-tech is this year’s standard product line. This is why
CeBIT is always looking for new trends, which it then explores in the world’s No.1 market-
place. For 2009 a number of important themes have already emerged, which will create
and profitably exploit new market potential. For example:
TeleHealth
Demographic change and the need to streamline costs are posing new challenges
for the healthcare market. The ICT industry sees itself as a driver of innovation in these is-
sues of major importance. CeBIT mirrors this growth market and documents the complete
spectrum of ICT use in the healthcare sector.
INTERNET & MOBILE SOLUTIONS
Digitalization and mobility are changing our lives at an increasingly rapid pace. Web 2.0
is changing the face of the media world. Sales worth billions are now being transacted
over the Internet. Business processes and workplaces are going mobile, while the demand
for web-based business solutions continues to rise. CeBIT is actively promoting the trend
towards mobility with the new display category Internet & Mobile Solutions.
eLEARNING
eLearning and knowledge management are playing an ever greater role in business,
science, administration and education. The eLearning section of the show reflects the new
mood of optimism at CeBIT – reason enough to develop and extend this section further in
2009.
www.cebit.com 11
12. A HOT TOPIC AT CeBIT 2009: webciety
The Internet is revolutionizing business processes at an accelerating rate, and entering
into every area of our lives. It is – quite simply – the dominant theme of our age.
CeBIT 2009 will document the workings of the Internet in full, pulling together all the
dynamic trends that are turning the information superhighway into a global meta-medium.
THE webciety AREA IN HALL 6
Web 2.0 is the next-generation Internet, very different in terms of the way we use it and
perceive it. New technical developments, new content and broader access have generated
new applications that have revolutionized Internet usage. The webciety is here to stay.
Here at CeBIT, we give a home to companies that see networking and communication as
their world. Virtual companies have no showroom, no shop window. But once a year, we
can change all that. Your “homebase” can be here at CeBIT – designed in the visual language
of the Web, with a presentation supported by sophisticated lighting and projection effects.
This is the place to display your solutions for Web 2.0 /Enterprise 2.0: new trends, innova-
tions, business models, blogs, wikis, social networks, social software, user-generated and
professional content…
Keynote addresses, platform discussions, BarCamp, …the webciety Forum is the meeting
place of choice for industry experts, suppliers and end users. Come and be a part of the
community!

13. CeBIT CONCEPT
MAKE SURE OF YOUR PLACE AT THE HEART OF THE ICT INDUSTRY
Identifying trends, responding to challenges – for a number of years now CeBIT has
been focusing not just on technologies and products, but also on complete solutions for
concrete applications. An approach that has proved extremely popular with visitors and
exhibitors alike.
BENEFIT FROM A CLEAR DISPLAY STRUCTURE
Such a vast array of exhibits needs to be structured and organized into clearly defined –
and clearly marked – display categories. New additions to CeBIT as from 2009 will include
the fast-growing segment Internet & Mobile Solutions.

29. SERVICES
REAP THE BENEFITS OF EFFECTIVE MARKETING SERVICES
To ensure that your presentation is a complete success, CeBIT supports you from start
to finish with innovative services and marketing tools. Planning the most successful week
of your business year couldn’t be easier.
Complimentary admission tickets
A personal invitation enclosing a ticket to the show is the best way to promote your presen-
tation – and for more than two thirds of all trade visitors this was a major reason for their
visit to the show. Up to 20 complimentary admission tickets /m² are available for your use
in bulk invitation mailings aimed at potential and existing customers. Co-exhibitors and
subscribers to any of our “fair-packages” will each receive 500 tickets.
“Premium Pass” VIP tickets
Show your premium customers how much you value them – with the new PREMIUM PASS.
This gives your guests the use of very special services, such as free admission on all days
of the show, use of the shuttle bus service and admission to the PREMIUM LOUNGE, with
full hospitality service included.
Entry in the CeBIT information media
Whether on the CeBIT website or in the electronic visitor information system – with an
entry in the CeBIT information media you can be certain that trade visitors and potential
customers know all about your products and services – and will also know exactly where
to find you on the Exhibition Grounds.
LeadSuccess
Use the LeadSuccess system to follow up your post-show business leads quickly and con-
veniently. Just scan in details of your trade visitors at your stand and keep a digital record
of your discussion notes.
Deutsche Messe Mailing Service
We can assist you with the preparation and realization of bulk visitor mailings. You can
access the extensive CeBIT database of business addresses and generate new business
contacts. And a resource that may be particularly useful for smaller companies: we can
supply pre-drafted text blocks that you can insert into your invitations to target potential
customers more precisely.

33. HALL 6
The USA is not only an important trading partner.
California’s Silicon Valley is also a textbook example of
successful business development driven by inward invest-
ment. We are hoping to learn from the Americans and get
some useful input into our own strategy planning.

PARTNER STATE CALIFORNIA
California is in many ways a model for Germany’s ICT industry, representing such key
values as dynamism, leadership in innovation and willingness to invest. The choice of
California as the official “Partner State” for CeBIT 2009 signals a new mood of optimism and
offers an opportunity for developing closer long-term business ties between the USA and
Europe through collaboration and partnership.

35. iF INTERNATIONAL FORUM DESIGN
THE IF LABEL – A HIGHLY RESPECTED GLOBAL BRAND
For more than 50 years iF Industrie Forum Design e.V. and iF International Forum Design
GmbH have had an established presence at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds. These inde-
pendent design organizations have played a crucial role in mediating between the design
community and industry. The annual iF design awards have contributed significantly to the
success of many design services – both in the business world and in terms of promoting
a greater awareness of design in the public at large. Furthermore, the coveted iF label is
employed by companies as a valuable marketing tool – a visible indicator of high quality in
products and services, and a useful point of reference for buyers in the marketplace.
The iF product design award, for example, currently attracts nearly 3,000 entries from
more than 35 countries, making it one of the world’s most important competitions. The
winning products, chosen by an international jury of design experts, are put on display
at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds, where they are seen by some 300,000 visitors from
all over the world.
And then there is the iF communication design award, which has quickly established itself
as one of the top international competitions, and is now seen as a reliable indicator of the
latest trends in communication design.
The iF concept award, an international competition for young designers, reflects the de-
manding standards that students are now expected to meet. And business enterprises
view the competition as a worthy cause that they are only too pleased to sponsor.
Another major focus of iF’s activities is the devising and organization of events that high-
light outstanding design and visions for a global world. These include (for example) the
special design and technology display “design: driving innovation” which is taking place
,
for the second time at CeBIT 2009.
iF is also the driving force behind the sporting event “CeBIT Charity Run” which is like-
,
wise being staged for the second time in March 2009 at CeBIT. Participants can choose to
run once or twice around the 7 km circuit on the Exhibition Grounds – or complete three
laps for the half-marathon. Again, the event offers great sponsorship opportunities for
businesses wanting to adopt a high profile at next year’s CeBIT.
