My wife Deb and I are planning a vacation to beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, next month.
Usually, I'd be stressed over it, because few things get me more worked up than preparing for a
trip.
Most people get frazzled about stuff like the economy, the oil spill in the Gulf, and Lindsay Lohan's

Me, I worry about prepping for a carefree few days out of town.

I was taught this technique by Tamara, my Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner. (Remind me to give you

Without fail, this squelches my anxiety quickly and reliably. Here's what I do:
I hold my thumbs.
It's that easy.

2. When I feel worried, I wrap my left thumb and fingers around my right thumb.
There's no right or wrong way to do this. I just hold my right thumb in whatever way feels most
comfortable. After a moment, I feel a "shift," and my anxiety drains off.
Then I repeat the process with my left thumb.
Why's it work? I'm not sure, but babies suck their thumbs for a reason, right?
I perform this thumb trick habitually before I go to sleep and as soon as I wake up.
So next time you feel the stress coming on, grab your thumbs.
