Schooling - Challenges in the 21st Century
Prospects and Opportunities
• More teachers showing some interest in e-learning (younger
teachers mainly)
• Many teachers use different Web 2.0 and mobile applications
(e.g. Facebook, edublogs and WhatsApp) to supplement
classroom based traditional approaches
• Successful Moodle LMS pilot project – whole high school will
migrate to Moodle next year
• Our four mobile labs are also very handy for K3 to F5 classes.
• Whenever technology is effectively applied to teaching and
learning activities in our school, students become engaged and
motivated to learn.
• When technologically challenged teachers use technology in
their classes, they too can develop necessary skills essential for
the 21st Century.
• More communication and collaboration, more school outside of
school plus many more

Schooling - Challenges in the 21st Century
Challenges
• Bringing teachers on board to use eClass / e-learning platforms
• Many teachers are using / trying to use technology but it’s not
coordinated
• We have 21st Century Digital Native students ‘teaching’ 20th
Century trained teachers how certain ‘classroom technologies’
work [student teaching the teacher]
• Some teachers will naturally refuse to learn from students and
prefer to use their traditional ‘talk and write’ approaches
• Plagiarism is a challenge even though there is software
available
• Students lacking skills to use other research methods like using
textbooks, journals and magazines
• Anti-social behaviour, cyber bulling
• Breakdown in family social cohesion plus many more

Support or Partnerships
• The current LMS, eClass Junior has been subsidized by the
Macau Government
• There are some local universities (about three) running
Moodle
• We would want to work towards partnering one of them, next
year, when we start running our Moodle LMS
