Shiva Legends

Shiva is considered since the destroyer of the world , in Hinduism. Shiva is a complex lord , in terms
of nature and represents contradictory qualities, getting the destroyer as well as the restorer
simultaneously. There are many legends surrounding master Shiva and his forces. Here're a few
popular stories of master Shiva.

Story regarding Shiva Lingam - Why Shiva will be worshipped in the Phallic Form

This is an interesting story regarding the praise of Lord Shiva in the phallic form. It is believed that as
soon as Brahma and Vishnu, the two deities of the Trinity, got into an argument regarding their
supremacy. Lord Brahma declared himself to be much more admired, being the creator. While the
preserver, Vishnu, pronounced he commanded more appreciation. Just then a large pillar of hearth
(lingam), called since Jyotirlinga, appeared inside flames, before these. This Lingam fascinated both
Brahma and Vishnu, with its quickly increasing size.

With this incident, these people forgot their quarrel and decided to discover its size. Vishnu took the
form of boar and went to the netherworld. Brahma assumed the form of a Swan and flew to the skies.
However each of them were unsuccessful in completing the self-assumed tasks. During those times ,
Shiva appeared out of the lingam and acknowledged that he was the progenitor of equally , Brahma
and Vishnu. So, he ought to be worshipped in his phallic (lingam) form, and not in the
anthropomorphic form.

Story of Shiva and the Hunter

Here is a more interesting account of Lord Shiva, showing his merciful nature. Once a seeker was
wandering inside a dense forest, to chase a deer and suddenly he or she found himself about the
banks of water Kolidum, where he or she heard the roar of a tiger. So that you can defend himself
from your tiger, he climbed up a shrub close by. The tiger woods sat on the ground below the tree
minus the purpose to leave.

The huntsman stayed on the tree whole evening and to keep themself awake, he plucked one leaf
after another from the tree and threw it down. There was a Shiva Lingam under the shrub and
gracefully the tree turned out to be any ''bilva'' tree (leaves of this tree tend to be adored by Shiva).
Without any knowledge, the huntsman had delighted the deity through pouring Bilva leaves all night.
With the appearance of the sun, the hunter looked down and found the tiger woods gone. In its place
, Lord Shiva has been standing and he prostate related before the lord. With Shiva's blessings, he or
she attained salvation from your bondage of the substance world.

Different brands of Shiva

Lord Shiva is considered as the destroyer of the Universe depending on the Hindu Mythology. Shiva
is one of the most widely used gods of the Hindus. Lord Shiva is really a complex god such as
goddess Kali, getting destroyer and restorer at the same time. Shiva can also be known as Bhole
Shankar, the innocent lord , who gets appeased easily. Shiv Shambhu is also recognized as a great
ascetic, as he resides on Mount Kailash in meditation. Lord Shiv is worshipped usually in his phallic
(Lingam) form. Special Worship of Shiva can be seen during the calendar month of Saawan (July-
August) of Hinduism. Master Shiva is known through many different names. This particular list

"Cancalam Hi Manah Krsna Pramathi Balavaddrdham

Tasyaham Nigraham Manye Vayoriva Suduskaram"

This Sloka states that the personal self is the traveller in the chariot of the material body as well as
the intelligence is the driver. Mind is the driving instrument and the senses are the horses. Thus , the
self is the enjoyer or patient in the relationship of the mind and senses.

"Balam Balavatam Caham Kamaragavivarjitam

Dharmaviruddho Bhutesu Kamo'smi Bharatarsabha"

craving in males.

Ye Caiva Sattvika Bhava Rajasastamasasca Ye

Matta Everti Tanviddhi Na Tvaham Tesu Temayi

This Shloka tells that God is the simply source of all good (satva), obsessive (rajas) and dark (tamas)
components still, they are not within the God nor the deity is within these.
"Tribhirgunamayairbhavairebhih Sarvamidam Jagat

Mohitam Nabhijanati Mamebhyah Paramavyayam"

This Sloka states that the whole world is immersed in the three elements of Satva, Raja, and
Tama. This is the reason, people don't recognize the endless God who is over and above them.

"Daivi Hyesa Gunamayi mama Maya Duratyaya

Mameva Ye Prapadyante Mayametam Taranti Te"

The Shloka states that the celestial maya of lord with its threefold features is very complex. But ,
those who worship lord are able to conquer it.

"Na Mam Duskrtino Mudhah Prapadyante Naradhamah

Mayayapahrtajnana Asuram Bhavamasritah"

This Shloka says that people who are attracted by maya of God lose their mind. These people get
fascinated by the baser impulses preventing worshipping God. These people are stupid and wicked
who don't even understand that all these situations are part of the web created by the Almighty.

"Caturvidha Bhajante Mam Janah Sukrtino'rjuna

Arto Jijnasurartharthi Jnani Ca Bharatarsabha"

This Sloka claims that there are four forms of good people who praise god, those who desire earthly
gains, those who are suffering, those who find knowledge and those who have got wisdom.
"Tesam Jnani Nityayukta Ekabhaktirvisisyate

Priyo Hi Jnanino'tyarthamaham Sa Ca mama Priyah"

This Shloka tells that out of the devotees, there are some wise people who want something in return
and the people who don't expect any fruit in return of the worship. God loves the people who don't
expect anything in return as their love towards the god is true.

"Udarah Sarva Evaite, Jnani Tvatmaiva myself Matam

Asthitah Sa hello Yuktatma Mamevanuttamam Gatim"

This Sloka says that all those who praise God are extensive. But the outstanding devotees , who
worship lord with the single motive to merge inside the God, are the correct devotees who have
achieved the highest aim of living.

Meaning: leading part of the hands (the finger tips) is paid to Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess
regarding wealth. The middle portion or palm will be credited to Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of
learning as well as the root (the part of hand near the wrist) to Govinda. So, every morning, one

There are many legends surrounding master Shiva and his forces. Here're a few popular stories of master Shiva. Story regarding Shiva Lingam - Why Shiva will be worshipped in the Phallic Form This is an interesting story regarding the praise of Lord Shiva in the phallic form. It is believed that as soon as Brahma and Vishnu, the two deities of the Trinity, got into an argument regarding their supremacy. Lord Brahma declared himself to be much more admired, being the creator. While the preserver, Vishnu, pronounced he commanded more appreciation. Just then a large pillar of hearth (lingam), called since Jyotirlinga, appeared inside flames, before these. This Lingam fascinated both Brahma and Vishnu, with its quickly increasing size. With this incident, these people forgot their quarrel and decided to discover its size. Vishnu took the form of boar and went to the netherworld. Brahma assumed the form of a Swan and flew to the skies. However each of them were unsuccessful in completing the self-assumed tasks. During those times , Shiva appeared out of the lingam and acknowledged that he was the progenitor of equally , Brahma and Vishnu. So, he ought to be worshipped in his phallic (lingam) form, and not in the anthropomorphic form. Story of Shiva and the Hunter Here is a more interesting account of Lord Shiva, showing his merciful nature. Once a seeker was wandering inside a dense forest, to chase a deer and suddenly he or she found himself about the banks of water Kolidum, where he or she heard the roar of a tiger.
