1.
2. Lifeblob is a online life stream
organiser that allows you to
create a diary of your life’s events.
Somewhat similar to the now defunct
SeRaja, the concept looks
complicated, although the application
has a well laid out GUI.
3. Crederity is a useful service that provides certification
against ID & resume fraud for employers. They conduct
thorough background checks (using a combination of
manual & automated procedures) for preventing
misrepresentations in employment documents.
4. PicPorta is a image recognition
engine for organising visual content.
Very similar to Riya.com, the
Ahmedabad based startup has
built up this up from scratch.
Though they did not explain the exact
applications that are being targeted
with this technology.
5. Muziboo is an online community for
amateur musicians. It allows
geographically dispersed
music lovers to socialise on the web.
6. ApnaBill is a personal payment gateway where you can buy
mobile prepaid cards (currently) and pay utility bills online
(launching soon). They have tied up with mobile aggregators for
the payment chain. The application is simple and the GUI is
excellent, though they are competing with much larger
institutional players in this segment. Their go-to- market strategy
looks unconvincing.
7. Lootstreet is a intruiging shopping
concept from two IIM graduates. It is an
online shopping destination where
you can bargain for your wares
just like you do with your next door
store. Its meant for people who detest
fixed price shopping. The idea makes
behavioral sense at one level,
but not sure if you can build a big
business around it.
8. Storrz is an ecommerce website with a twist in the tale. They
are creating a social shopping destination where you can
mingle with the community for shared recommendations,
product reviews etc. Storrz has tied up with mid sized
merchants spread across the country and is not focusing on
the big ticket brands & products. Overall this startup looks
very promising and they seem to have good initial traction as
well.
9. Lords Of Odds is a virtual betting
league that is trying to cash on the
fantasy gaming meme. Targeted
at kids & youth, they have bets on
all things you can imagine –
politics, sports, movies, brands
etc. The concept seems very well
thought out, though the key here is
getting users actually hooked.
10. Eko looks a very promising micro financial service. They
are building the technology and the infrastructure, that will
allow cell phones to be used as micro banking
instruments for economically weaker segments of society.
They have a pilot going on in Delhi currently.
11. gCoSign is an (offline) point of sale advertising system
that allows advertisements to be dynamically targeted at
retail counters through a centrally controlled server. They
claim to have evolved a system of measuring the ROI for
their advertisers. An interesting concept, it is targeted at
high end retailers and shopping malls.
12. The Hiring Tool is a yet to be launched online recruitment tool
targeted at connecting employers directly with recruitment
agencies, placement consultants etc for their hiring needs. Their
model looks refreshingly new… look forward to its launch .

into human resource management
software. They have launched a recruitment
management system called Recruiter Pilot
for candidate sourcing, resume extraction
and resume searching.
14. Soliton is an award winning company that manufactures machine vision
systems that can used in factory automation and quality control.

language utility for online & desktop
users. Their products are used
commercially by many banks & Govt.
institutions
16. Blink is an interactive shopping cart accessory
for retail outlets and shopping malls that allows

information (like brands, discounts, offers)
on the mobile shopping carts from
a centrally located store server.

This blog is where we share the latest with SlideShare. We bring you articles from top presentation experts. And we blog about the cool things our users have been upto!
A few companies have used SlideShare to put up shows about their products and services or about themselves. In many cases these are beginning to show up in web search results too, and are a valuable first point of contact with customers.
Considering that, we thought it would be a good idea to share this list of tips and best practices to market your company effectively using SlideShare.
The deadline for submission of entries in the World’s Best Presentation Contest has been extended due to popular demand from the community. Instead of July 31st, you can now submit entries till the 7th of August. What’s more- the voting on the entries will continue for one more week (till 14th August) post last date for entry submission. This is to ensure that all entries get some time to gather votes.
Amazon S3, the service that we use to host slideshows, images, and PowerPoint files, is almost completely down this morning. This is causing sections of slideshare.net to not work. For example, uploaded files are not converting, and the slideshow player that you use to view slideshows isn’t loading.
This is effecting many many sites (here’s a nice blog post from SmugMug, for example). I’m confident that they’ll restore service soon … it’s been about two hours so far. You can keep track of Amazon Web Services status here. I’ll post here again when service has been successfully restored.
When you invite someone to join an event or a group on SlideShare, an email goes out to them to confirm their acceptance.
Unfortunately, this simple act almost blew up in our faces thanks to an elementary mistake in interface design.
With the constructive feedback, we’ve now changed the content of the email to also include a link to the group or event too.
cious voting behavior… after careful analysis, these votes have been removed. This is to uphold the fairness of the contest and to address the concerns of some of our users.
Just as a note, the number of votes removed is small compared to the overall votes cast. Hence its impact on the overall standings is unlikely to be big, though individual entries may have their numbers changed.
Let me take this opportunity to reiterate this:
- The judges for the contest are presentation gurus of global repute; they are also independent of SlideShare. Be rest assured that bogus voting is unlikely to help you get past their judgement.
- Some people have written to us asking for changes in the contest rules… this is not possible while the contest is running. We shall keep your feedback in mind while designing the rules for future contests.
- Given the enthusiasm of the community, we have decided to have contest
Have you ever thought it would be fun to create a slideshow collaboratively with a group of people? Well, now’s your chance. This slideshow is being created by the community, one slide at a time! The first slide was created by Ethos3, the second slide is from Presentation Partners, and third one is from Rick Altman. The collaborative slideshow is embedded below.
