Media Evaluation By Stuart Mill
In what ways does your media product, use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Research! Basic plot of film, boy meets girl, he’s too scared to talk to her as himself, so he dresses up as a girl to get to know her, however she finds out, and leads him, making him stay dressed as a girl and do stupid things, however she ends up falling in love with him. He finds out, they have an argument etc then get back together. So we knew how to produce a successful product we had to research the market, seeing what type of film and genre was most popular amongst our age group, a good starting point for which we would decide our target audience upon. Usual date, price, issue number Big and bold type! Dominant picture, not taken from the movie! Colour of background helps it all to stand out. Catch phrase to match the picture. What else is included in the magazine. Bar code
Big and bold! Colour scheme helps the wanted things to stand out, scheme running with colours in the picture. Exclusives included, particular font to match the nature of the film. Bar code as usual, as well as the price, date and issue number in far corner, not to draw focus from the rest, but still there for all to see.
Large dominant picture of character from the film, with background from film also. Colours giving the mood of the film, dark and gloomy representing action in the film. His face and the tip of the sword lit up representing their importance in the film. Title, release date, and small print at the bottom, in different size font, distinguishing importance.
Big bold font again, changing size across poster emphasising the more important information. Colour scheme matches nature of picture, a feminine colour on the female side while more masculine on the male side, showing the two sides.  Small print at bottom, as well as logo’s of institutions associated with the product.

How effective is the combination of your main product  and ancillary texts?
I think this text goes very well with the main product, the bright colours and large font reflect the up beat, humorous nature of the film.  The picture dominating the front cover is questionable in how it relates to the film, for example the basket balls are not a part of the film, however as you can see the picture itself is not a shot from the film, it is separate, a picture taken for the sole purpose of the intended interview.
Again I think this goes well. The humorous nature of the film is reflected here and the pictures are ones from the film, reinforcing the purpose of this text which is to advertise the main product. One thing people might question is the change in colours from the magazine front cover, however they are both of different institutions, the magazine has its own themes and colours. They do have their similarities such as the font of the film title, bringing the two institutions together for a main cause.
3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
From our audience feedback I have learned that the products all work well together, we got a positive response from those who saw the film and texts. We also took advice through the stages of construction, where parts did not work we would go back change bits, we had to do this more than once, however it was necessary to see what worked and what didn’t so that we could correct it.  One of the first attempts to creating the product.
Audience feedback gave us the chance to try out new things, see what people thought and then change them accordingly, in this case we experimented with editing this picture, however from our feedback we decided to just leave it how it originally was.
4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stagers?
The latest apple Mac's and the applications that came with them we a great help when constructing all aspects of this project. So many things were available to us to use at our disposal.  We could experiment with editing photos, create soundtracks, and shape our film to exactly how we wanted it, while at the same time tracking our progress on the online blog.     Soundtrack we had originally planned to use, however after looking over it and feedback we chose to use a song from an unsigned band.  The pauses were in conjunction with the pauses of music from the film.
All of the applications were available on the Mac’s, whether it be garageband, movie maker or Photoshop.
Along with the new technologies came opportunities to publish work in different formats, for example creating an animatic for our storyboard, which we could then post on our blog, as well as having institution opening sequences we could include in our film, in this case New Line Cinema.

  • 2. In what ways does your media product, use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
  • 3. Research! Basic plot of film, boy meets girl, he’s too scared to talk to her as himself, so he dresses up as a girl to get to know her, however she finds out, and leads him, making him stay dressed as a girl and do stupid things, however she ends up falling in love with him. He finds out, they have an argument etc then get back together. So we knew how to produce a successful product we had to research the market, seeing what type of film and genre was most popular amongst our age group, a good starting point for which we would decide our target audience upon. Bar code as usual, as well as the price, date and issue number in far corner, not to draw focus from the rest, but still there for all to see.
  • 6. Large dominant picture of character from the film, with background from film also. Colours giving the mood of the film, dark and gloomy representing action in the film. His face and the tip of the sword lit up representing their importance in the film. Title, release date, and small print at the bottom, in different size font, distinguishing importance.

Colour scheme matches nature of picture, a feminine colour on the female side while more masculine on the male side, showing the two sides. Small print at bottom, as well as logo’s of institutions associated with the product.

  • 9. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
  • 10. I think this text goes very well with the main product, the bright colours and large font reflect the up beat, humorous nature of the film. The picture dominating the front cover is questionable in how it relates to the film, for example the basket balls are not a part of the film, however as you can see the picture itself is not a shot from the film, it is separate, a picture taken for the sole purpose of the intended interview.
  • 11. Again I think this goes well. The humorous nature of the film is reflected here and the pictures are ones from the film, reinforcing the purpose of this text which is to advertise the main product. One thing people might question is the change in colours from the magazine front cover, however they are both of different institutions, the magazine has its own themes and colours. They do have their similarities such as the font of the film title, bringing the two institutions together for a main cause.
  • 12. 3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
  • 13. From our audience feedback I have learned that the products all work well together, we got a positive response from those who saw the film and texts. We also took advice through the stages of construction, where parts did not work we would go back change bits, we had to do this more than once, however it was necessary to see what worked and what didn’t so that we could correct it. One of the first attempts to creating the product.
  • 14. Audience feedback gave us the chance to try out new things, see what people thought and then change them accordingly, in this case we experimented with editing this picture, however from our feedback we decided to just leave it how it originally was.
  • 15. 4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stagers?
  • 16. The latest apple Mac's and the applications that came with them we a great help when constructing all aspects of this project. So many things were available to us to use at our disposal. We could experiment with editing photos, create soundtracks, and shape our film to exactly how we wanted it, while at the same time tracking our progress on the online blog. Soundtrack we had originally planned to use, however after looking over it and feedback we chose to use a song from an unsigned band. The pauses were in conjunction with the pauses of music from the film.
  • 17. All of the applications were available on the Mac’s, whether it be garageband, movie maker or Photoshop.
  • 18. Along with the new technologies came opportunities to publish work in different formats, for example creating an animatic for our storyboard, which we could then post on our blog, as well as having institution opening sequences we could include in our film, in this case New Line Cinema.
