The female reproductive system consists of internal organs including the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus, as well as external organs like the vagina and vulva. The ovaries produce eggs and hormones, the fallopian tubes carry eggs to the uterus, and the uterus houses and nourishes an embryo. Other external parts include the vagina, cervix, vulva, and perineum. The menstrual cycle is regulated by hormones that cause an egg to mature and be released, or menstruation if fertilization does not occur.
