Volunteer Position Description
Position Title: Special Event Assistant
Purpose/Goals of Position: To help ensure that each patron has an exceptional leisure experience, to provide
additional support to staff during busy events, to maintain a high safety standard, and to
assist with the delivery additional programs/activities.
Purpose/Goals of Unit: -Citizens report an enjoyment of interactive experiences.
-Citizens are integral to the presentation of the life of the city through quality volunteer
opportunities.
-Citizens report that programs are plentiful and of good quality.
-Citizens have an increased knowledge or Edmonton’s human and cultural history.
Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to:
-Greeting & providing information to the public
-Facilitating crafts and activities
-Performing surveys
-Assisting with set-up & take down
-Handing out materials
-Line control
-Hosting
Training & Supervision - Orientation package (includes hazard assessment, facility information, Special
Event Volunteer Coordinator’s contact information, Facility Coordinator contact
information, volunteer expectations)
- Onsite orientation will be given by the on-site Coordinator
- Facility orientation manual
- Yearly evaluation completed by the on-site Coordinator and the Special Events
Volunteer Coordinator (Jasmine Hestad).
Requirements: The ability to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions, excellent
interpersonal and customer service skills, to be 12 years of age or older, availability to
work events during evenings, weekends and/or holidays, to provide own transportation
to and from the facilities volunteering at.
Health & Safety: Review the assessment with the volunteer during orientation.
