3. Blood Pressure
ï Blood Pressure is the pressure exerted by circulating
blood upon the walls of blood vessels
4. Types of Blood Pressure
ï Systolic Blood Pressure:
It is specifically the maximum arterial pressure during
contraction of Heart
ï Diastolic Blood Pressure :
Diastolic pressure, refers to the lowest pressure within
the arterial blood stream due to expansion of heart
5. Measurement of Blood Pressure
ï There are 3 basic ways to measure the blood
ï Auscultatory.
ï Oscillometric.
ï Direct Method.
6. Auscultatory Method
ï The auscultatory method (from the Latin word for
"listening") uses a stethoscope and a
sphygmomanometer.
8. Oscillometric Method
ï The oscillometric method involves the observation of
oscillations in the sphygmomanometer cuff pressure
9. Direct Method
ï A thin tube is directly inserted in the body to assess
pressure of the blood
ï Two types of direct method
ï H2O manometers
ï Electronic manometers
10. H2O Manometers
ï Thin manometer tube is directly inserted in the body
having water in it .
11. Electronic manometers
ï An electronic pressure transducer can be connected to
the patient to find pressure by thin tubing called
catheter
