This document is a bulletin from the First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi on February 9, 2014. It includes the memory verse for February, announcements about an upcoming consignment sale and volunteer opportunities. It discusses how the Sunday School class could volunteer at the sale by providing refreshments, greeting customers, and showing God's love. The bulk of the document is a sermon on God's glory, discussing that God's intrinsic glory is the manifestation of his attributes, and that while we cannot add to God's glory, we can adorn the doctrine of God through righteous living.
3. John 13:34 NKJV
34 “A new commandment I
give to you, that you love
one another; as I have loved
you, that you also love one
another.
John 13:34 NKJV
8. There is a “Tea Room” for
those attending to have
refreshments, meet First
Baptist members and ask
questions they might have
about First Jackson.
9. Our class could provide
refreshments and we also
could supply hosts in the
“Tea Room”.
10. * Greeting consignors,
unloading items and
checking in items during
consignor drop off.
* Getting items to the sales
floor and organizing items
before the sale.
11. *Helping customers
during the sale.
* Checking customers out
and/or bagging purchases.
*Ministering to and
showing Jesus’ love to
customers!
12. Volunteers are needed in
the Christian Life Center
gym to assist individuals
returning to their cars
with the items they have
purchased.

18. God’s Glory - John 17
*What is God’s glory?
(Review God’s Attributes)
*Why give God glory?
*How do we give God
glory?
*When do we give God
glory?
19. *God is serious about His
glory.
*You can’t rob God of His
glory – don’t even think
about it!
*Jesus said, “You have
your reward.”
20. *Be smart, don’t get
punished, get rewarded.
*He must increase, I must
decrease.
21. God’s Glory - John 17
*What is God’s glory?
(Review God’s Attributes)
*Why give God glory?
*How do we give God
glory?
*When do we give God
glory?
22. Jesus Prays for
All Believers
John 17:22&24 NKJV
22 “And the glory which
You gave Me I have given
them, that they may be
one just as We are one:
23. 24 “Father,
I desire that they
also whom You gave Me may
be with Me where I am, that
they may behold My glory
which You have given Me;
for You loved Me before the
foundation of the world.”
John 17:20&24 NKJV
25. If everything we do is for
His glory (1 Cor 10:31)
and since He gave us His
glory (John 17:22) and we
will behold His glory
(John 17:24), shouldn’t we
know what His glory is?
26. God’s Glory - John 17
*What is God’s glory?
(Review God’s Attributes)
*Why give God glory?
*How do we give God
glory?
*When do we give it?
35. Here the angels state that
God has glory.
They don't say, "Give Him
glory."
They say, "Holy, holy, holy
is the Lord of hosts.
36. The whole earth is full of
His glory."
*The first concept of the
glory of God is the glory
that's intrinsic to His
nature, He has it, we don’t
give it to Him.
37. It's His by virtue of Who
He is.
If no man was ever
created, if no angel was
ever created, would God
still be a God of glory?
Yes.
38. If no one ever gave Him
any glory, if no one ever
gave Him any honor, if no
one ever gave Him any
praise, would He still be
the glorious God that He
is?
39. Yes, because He was the
glorious God He is now
before anybody ever did
give Him any glory, any
praise.
40. So God has intrinsic glory.
This is the glory of God's
nature.
What is this intrinsic
glory?
41. His intrinsic glory is the
manifestation of all of His
attributes.
God's glory is the
combination of all of His
attributes.
44. 19 Then
He said, “I will
make all My goodness
pass before you, and I will
proclaim the name of
the LORD before you.
I will be gracious to
whom I will be gracious,
45. and I will have
compassion on whom I
will have compassion.”
20 But He said, “You
cannot see My face; for no
man shall see Me, and
live.”
46. 21 And
the LORD said,
“Here is a place by Me,
and you shall stand on the
rock.
47. 22 So
it shall be, while My
glory passes by, that I will
put you in the cleft of the
rock, and will cover you
with My hand while I
pass by.
48. 23 Then
I will take away
My hand, and you shall
see My back; but My face
shall not be seen.”
Exodus 33:18-23 NKJV
49. I will put you in the cleft
of the rock…
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_3giJHcgq7Zk/TEX8Q9_OmuI/AAAAAAAAAoY/d-N5-oSnxMQ/s1600/cleft.jpg
50. Ah! the goodness of God
is a big part of His glory.
*God's greatest glory is
that He is good.
*The brightest gem in the
crown of God is His
goodness.
51. "I will make all My
goodness pass before
thee."
There is a panorama such
as time would not be long
enough for you to see.
53. A wonderful Savior is
Jesus my Lord,
A wonderful Savior to me;
He hideth my soul in the
cleft of the rock,
Where rivers of pleasure I
see.
54. Refrain:
He hideth my soul in the cleft of
the rock
That shadows a dry, thirsty land;
He hideth my life with the
depths of His love,
And covers me there with His
hand… (repeat)
62. When we live a holy life,
we adorn the doctrine of
God, but not God.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4L7bpsRRzRQ/T0DZdtIxA0I/AAAAAAAAAF4/n-xG5kBnu4Q/s1600/Adorn-the-doctrine-mplogo.jpg
63. You can live any life you
want and it won't affect
God.
But it does affect the
testimony about God in
your world.
64. *God has intrinsic glory
that we can't do anything
about.
*We can't add to it.
*We can't take it away.
*But we may adorn the
doctrine of God.
65. On the contrary, man's
glory is granted to him.
We talk about men being
exalted and honored and
so forth but man has no
intrinsic glory of his own.
66. *The glory that is God's is
His in His essence.
*That's His nature.
*You can't touch His glory.
*It cannot be taken away.
*It cannot be added to.
*It is His being.
67. It's total glory, and it
cannot be diminished.
You can strip a king
naked, you can defrock a
priest, but…
68. You can't de-glory God!
http://api.ning.com/files/awmTA9wcSmIsY-YxIGEQ8l-TZf6cNM5dPAJMlp8uQC5r4HgCKvcNWxjphGSfuBWMxXx*owJULSKKG0TEGHTwew2Y*N9mnEg/glory.jpg
69. In that sense, concerning
His intrinsic glory, we
cannot give God glory.
We can't add to His
nature.
70. If He's infinite grace and
infinite mercy and infinite
power and infinite love
and infinite knowledge
and all of these things,
there's nothing we can do
to add to those infinities.
71. All we can do is recognize
it.
All we can do is say,
"Yes, it is true. God is
glorious!"
That's all.
72. 1 Chronicles 16:23-29
NKJV
23 Sing to the LORD, all the
earth;
Proclaim the good news
of His salvation from day
to day.
77. 28 Give
to the LORD, O
families of the peoples,
Give to the LORD glory
and strength.
http://images.firstcovers.com/covers/userquotes/a/ascribe_to_the_lord-63903.jpg?i
78. 29 Give
to the LORD the
glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and
come before Him.
Oh, worship the LORD in
the beauty of holiness!
1 Chronicles 16:23-29
79. Catch the importance of
the first word in verse 24,
"Declare His glory."
Declare it.
It's not talking about
giving it to Him.
He's got it. Just state it so.
80. Then in verse 27,
“Glory and honor are in
His presence.”
*His glory is in Him.
*That's His nature.
*None of these attributes,
can be added to.
81. David’s Praise to God
1 Chronicles 29:10-13
NKJV
10 Therefore
David blessed
the LORD before all the
assembly; and David said:
82. “Blessed are You, LORD
God of Israel, our Father,
forever and ever.
11 Yours, O LORD, is the
greatness,
The power and the glory,
The victory and the majesty;
83. For all that is in heaven
and in earth is Yours;
Yours is the kingdom,
O LORD,
And You are exalted as
head over all.
84. 12 Both
riches and honor
come from You,
And You reign over all.
In Your hand is power
and might;
In Your hand it is to make
great
85. And to give strength to
all.
13 “Now therefore, our
God, We thank You
And praise Your glorious
name.
1 Chronicles 29:10-13
86. "Thine is the greatness and
the power and the glory
and the victory and the
majesty."
*It's His.
*Whether we acknowledge
it or not, it is His.
87. Can His glory be diminished? No!
Isaiah 42:8b
8b "My glory will I not give to
another."
Isaiah 48:11c
11c I will not give My glory to
another.
*God does not give away
His nature.
89. He does, however, plant
His glory within us but
He never plants His glory
within us or upon us
apart from Himself.
90. *When we say that He
gives His glory to the
believer, we mean that
He Himself comes to
dwell in the believer.
*The glory never becomes
ours.
91. *It is always His radiating
through us.
*God never gives away
any of His glory.
*He never diminishes His
glory.
92. *He may plant His glory
in us, but it's still His
glory, and, therefore,
whatever we do, we do
to the glory of God.
*He never gives away His
nature.
*He can't.
93. *He can't divest Himself
of Who He is.
*The only way you and I'll
ever know the glory of
God is when the glory of
God resides in us in the
person of the Holy Spirit,
Who is God indwelling us.
95. Psalm 24 NKJV
1 The
earth is the LORD’s,
and all its fullness,
The world and those who
dwell therein.
96. 2 For
He has founded it
upon the seas,
And established it upon
the waters.

97. 3 Who
may ascend into the
hill of the LORD?
Or who may stand in His
holy place?
98. 4 He
who has clean hands
and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his
soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.
99. 5 He
shall receive blessing
from the LORD,
And righteousness from
the God of his salvation.

is Jacob, the
generation of those who

Who seek Your face. Selah
101. 7 Lift
up your heads, O
you gates!
And be lifted up, you
everlasting doors!
And the King of glory
shall come in.
102. 8 Who
is this King of
glory?
The LORD strong and
mighty,
The LORD mighty in
battle.
103. 9 Lift
up your heads, O
you gates!
Lift up, you everlasting
doors!
And the King of glory
shall come in.
104. 10 Who
is this King of
glory?
The LORD of hosts,
He is the King of
glory. Selah
Psalm 24 NKJV
105. He is the King of glory!
http://ih2.redbubble.net/image.9905920.7658/flat,550x550,075,f.jpg
106. *Now, here you have the
fact that God is glory.
*He is Who He is.
*We cannot add to it.
*We cannot diminish it.
The King of glory!
108. Jesus says to Martha,
"Just hang on, Martha, and
you're going to see the
glory of God."
*This isn't something
Martha gave Him.
*This is something He had.
109. John 11:40 NKJV
40 Jesus
said to her, “Did I
not say to you that if you
would believe you would
see the glory of God?”
110. Lazarus is dead, and Jesus
took His time getting
there, because He wanted
Him dead so that He
could teach a lesson with
a miracle.
111. Why did Jesus cry if He
knew what He was going
to do?
He wasn't weeping over
Lazarus' death.
112. He was weeping over the
power and consequence
of sin.
http://blogs.nazarene.org/kpprobst/files/2011/08/jesus-wept1.jpg
113. The glory of God was
revealed through the
raising of Lazarus from
the dead.

114. Since the glory of God is
the manifestation of His
attributes, what attribute
was displayed here?
Power.
Almighty power!
115. The power that was used
in Creation was about to
be put on display through
RESURRECTION
POWER!
116. This was His nature in
action.

117. Jesus Prays for All
Believers
John 17:24a NKJV
24 “Father,
I desire that
they also whom You gave
Me may be with Me
118. where I am, that they may
behold My glory which
You have given Me;
John 17:24a NKJV
119. The Glory of the New
Jerusalem
Revelation 21:22-23 NKJV
22 But I saw no temple in it,
for the Lord God Almighty
and the Lamb are its
temple.
120. 23 The
city had no need of
the sun or of the moon to
shine in it, for the glory of
God illuminated it.
The Lamb is its light.
Revelation 21:22-23 NKJV
121. *Heaven will be lit with
His glory.
*That's something God has.
*That's Who He is.
*That's His nature, and He
will not give His glory to
another.
122. Heaven is going to be lit
with the glory of God!
http://mikezfoto.com/images/amazing_sunsets-change_in_the_weather.jpg
123. *First of all we said that
God's glory is that which
is His intrinsic nature,
His attributes.
*But secondly, there is a
glory which is given to
God by His creatures.
124. *That is when we recognize
His glory.
*What does it mean to give
God glory?
*Here it is.
*It means to magnify His
glory before the world.
125. *You're not adding to His
nature.
*You're enhancing the
doctrine about Him.
*In other words, you're
enhancing His glory in
the eyes of men.
126. You're not enhancing His
glory in terms of its
existence.
It's a question of
testimony.
127. You're enhancing God’s
image in the eyes of men
when you give Him glory.
http://www.virtuousplanet.com/shops/userimages/00001/00000000012/productSmall/00000000000000005704_16.jpg
128. In Philippians 1:20, Paul
said that, "Christ may be
magnified in my body."
He didn't mean that
Christ needs to be
improved on.
129. He meant that, in the eyes
of the world, Christ needs
to be exalted through him.
When we give glory to
God, we are not adding to
His nature.
130. *We are merely revealing
Who He really is.
*Go back to 1 Chronicles
16:24.
"Declare His glory among
the nations."
*We just declare it.
131. *You're merely publicly
giving testimony to His
glory.
*That's the point.
*That's the issue.
*Now look again at
verses 28 and 29.
132. 1 Chronicles 16:28-29 NKJV
28 Give
to the LORD, O
families of the peoples,
Give to the LORD glory and
strength.
133. 29 Give
to the LORD the
glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come
before Him.
Oh, worship the LORD in the
beauty of holiness!
1 Chronicles 16:28-29 NKJV
135. *That is the second aspect.
*We do not add to the
intrinsic nature of God.
*We merely enhance the
doctrine of God in the
eyes of the world when
we exalt Him, when we
136. praise Him, when we lift
Him up, when we glorify
Him.
http://mygodisdotcom.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/glorify.jpg
137. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV
19 Do you not know that
your body is the temple of
the Holy Spirit Who is in
you, Whom you have from
God, and you are not your
own?
138. 20 For
you were bought at a
price; therefore glorify God
in your body and in your
spirit, which are God’s.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV
139. In other words, give pure
testimony by the way you
live to the pure glory of
God that men might see
His glory.
140. Glorify God in your body
and in your spirit which
are God's.

141. Glory to God
Jude 24-25 NKJV
24 ”Now to Him Who is able
to keep you from stumbling,
And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His
glory with exceeding joy,
142. 25 To
God our Savior,
Who alone is wise,
Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and power,
Both now and forever.”
Amen.
143. Notice, wherever there is
the glory of God, there is
the resultant joy.
http://glenpoolchurchofchrist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/joy-608x456.jpg
144. There are many things in
our world that magnify
God.
Creation reveals the glory
of God but men can
pervert it.
145. Psalm 19:1 NKJV
1 The
heavens declare the
glory of God;
And the firmament shows
His handiwork.
146. Romans 1:20-21 NKJV
20 For
since the creation of
the world His invisible
attributes are clearly seen,
being understood by the
things that are made, even
147. His eternal power and
Godhead, so that they are
without excuse,
21 because, although they
knew God, they did not
glorify Him as God, nor
were thankful, but became
148. futile in their thoughts,
and their foolish hearts
were darkened.
Romans 1:20-21 NKJV
149. We are to give Him glory,
not in the sense that we
add to His nature, but in
the sense that we give
testimony to His glory,
that we exalt His name.
150. Psalm 29:1-2 NKJV
1 Give
unto the LORD, O
you mighty ones,
Give unto the LORD glory
and strength.
151. 2 Give
unto the LORD the
glory due to His name;
Worship the LORD in the
beauty of holiness.
Psalm 29:1-2 NKJV
152. This is a command of
every man.
I don't care how strong
you think you are, you
give the Lord glory!
153. God’s Glory - John 17
*What is God’s glory?
(Review God’s Attributes)
*Why give God glory?
*How do we give God
glory?
*When do we give it?
154. If God's glory is the
combination of all of His
attributes, what are those
attributes?
156. Romans 1:20 NKJV
20 For
since the creation of the
world His invisible
attributes are clearly seen,
being understood by the
things that are made, even
His eternal power and
161. Transcendence (God exists outside of
space and time)
Immanence (God is present within
space and time)
162. He is both “nearby” and “far
away”.
Jeremiah 23:23 NKJV
23 “Am I a God near at hand,”
says the LORD,
“And not a God afar off?
Jeremiah 23:23 NKJV
163. Isaiah 55:9 NKJV
“As the heavens are higher
than the earth, so are my
ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your
thoughts.
That is transcendence.
164. “In him all things hold
together” (Colossians
1:17). That is God’s
immanence.
166. We glorify God by
rehearsing His attributes.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_kbhJOdZh2CE/S1UlyhOl9KI/AAAAAAAADVc/ErFDMMJQQt0/s400/oak_w_words.jpg
167. Holy:
Though all the attributes of
God are important and
dependent on one another,
the fact of God’s holiness
seems to be the one He
wishes us to put emphasis
upon.
168. When God revealed
Himself to man (Moses,
Job, Isaiah, Mount of
Transfiguration, etc.) each
encounter mentions His
holiness.
169. Isaiah called God “the
Holy One” more than 30
times.
Psalm 99:9 says, “the Lord
our God is holy.”
170. This is the only attribute
of God that is repeated
three times in Scripture:
Holy, holy, holy!
171. God will not set aside His
holiness even for His
mercy.
Even His love won’t
trump His holiness.
172. Without the authority of the
Bible, any attempt to explain
God’s attributes would be no
better than an opinion,
which by itself is often
incorrect, especially in
understanding God
(Job 42:7).
173. It is because of God’s
righteousness and justice that,
in order for our sins to be
forgiven, Jesus had to
experience God's wrath when
our sins were placed upon
Him (Exodus 9:27; Matthew
27:45-46; Romans 3:21-26).
174. God did not reduce the
penalty for our sins since
it was His only Son Who
was paying the price.
As a matter of fact, Isaiah
53:10 says that “it pleased
the Lord to bruise Him”.
176. Since God is an infinite
Being, no human can fully
answer this God-sized
question of “what are the
attributes of God?”, but
through God’s Word, we can
understand much about Who
God is and what He is like.
179. To glorify God is to extol
His attributes—His
holiness, faithfulness,
mercy, grace, love,
majesty, sovereignty,
power, and omniscience,
to name a few—
180. rehearsing them over and
over in our minds and
telling others about the
singular nature of the
salvation only He offers.
181. God’s Glory - John 17
*What is God’s glory?
(Review God’s Attributes)
*Why give God glory?
*How do we give God
glory?
*When do we give it?
182. Now, you see the what of
His glory.
Two things:
1) His intrinsic glory, we
don't give that to Him,
He has it by His very
nature.
183. 2) By enhancing His
name, by exalting His
name, by lifting up His
name, by praising His
name, by honoring His
name, we give Him glory
in the eyes of the world.
184. *That's what we want to
concentrate on.
*We can't work on the first
one.
*It's done.
*We want to concentrate on
the second one, to give Him
glory!
185. The first question is:
What is God’s glory?
The second question is:
Why should I give Him
glory?
Why?
Here's why.
186. Psalm 100:3 NKJV
3 Know that the LORD,
He is God;
It is He Who has made us,
and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the
sheep of His pasture.
187. Romans 11:36 NKJV
36 For
of Him and through
Him and to Him are all
things, to Whom be glory
forever. Amen.
188. *Number one, because He
made us and gives us our
being and everything else.
*We certainly ought to
give Him glory!
*You know why God
deserves the glory?
190. He deserves us to give
Him glory because He
made everything.
He gave us our being, our
life, and everything that
is.
191. *How could we give glory
to any other god or any
other source?
*God does not want us to
give His glory to another
because there is no one
else.
192. If we did give glory to
someone or something
other than God, that
would be foolish and not
good for us.
God wants the best for us.
193. Of Jesus it is said, "All things
are made by Him and for
Him," and that takes us to
the second thing.
194. We oughta give Him glory
because He made everything.
And, secondly, we oughta
give Him glory because
He made everything to
give Him glory.
195. You say, "Was that the
purpose?"
Yes.
Proverbs 16:4 says this, "The
Lord hath made all things for
Himself."
196. He made everything to
bespeak His glory.
Everything to radiate His
glory.
Everything.
197. Everything is to radiate His
attributes, to show His
power, to show His love, to
show His mercy, to show His
wisdom, to show His grace.
Everything.
199. 16 For
by Him all things
were created that are in
heaven and that are on
earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones
or dominions or
principalities or powers.
200. All things were created
through Him (Jesus) and
for Him.
Colossians 1:15-16 NKJV
201. Yes, we are to glorify Him
because He made us.
And, secondly, because
He made us to glorify
Him.
202. Some will say,
“I'll never glorify God.
God’s people may glorify
Him but I'm not going to
succumb to that kind of
egoism.”
203. They may not want to
give God glory, but they
will, even if they don't
choose to.
They'll just give Him
glory unwillingly.
204. He gets glory out of
people who don't want to
give Him glory,
He gets glory out of
everything, sooner or
later.
205. Exodus 14:17b-18 NKJV
17b So
I will gain honor
over Pharaoh and over all
his army, his chariots, and
his horsemen.
206. 18 Then
the Egyptians shall
know that I am the LORD,
when I have gained honor
for Myself over Pharaoh, his
chariots, and his horsemen.”
Exodus 14:17b-18 NKJV
207. God said He would get
the glory and He got it!
And He will get it.
He'll get it.
Read the rest of the Bible
and find out.
208. *Everybody gets to the
place where He gives God
glory, willingly or
unwillingly.
*Wittingly or unwittingly.
*But especially God gets
glory from the righteous.
210. Isaiah 43:19-21 NKJV
19 Behold, I will do a new
thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in
the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.
211. 20 The
beast of the field will
honor Me,
The jackals and the ostriches,
Because I give waters in the
wilderness
And rivers in the desert,
To give drink to My people,
My chosen.
212. 21 This
people I have
formed for Myself;
They shall declare My
praise.
Isaiah 43:19-21 NKJV
214. 1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
9 But you are a chosen
generation, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation,
His own special people,
that you may proclaim the
praises of Him Who called
215. you out of darkness into His
marvelous light;
1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
That's right.
Righteous people declare His
praise!
216. All right, we ought to give
God glory, one, because
He made us; two, because
He made us to give Him
glory, and He'll get it
sooner or later anyway.
217. We might as well give it
willingly, because when
we give it willingly, the
result is,
"Therefore My heart is
glad."
218. We also ought to give God
glory because He judges
those who don't willfully
give Him glory.
219. If a person refuses the
willingness to give glory,
God gets His glory, but
He judges that person.
That's serious.
220. Romans 1:21 NKJV
21 although they knew God,
they did not glorify Him as
God, nor were thankful, but
became futile in their
thoughts, and their foolish
hearts were darkened.
Romans 1:21 NKJV
221. Romans 1:24-28 NKJV
24 Therefore
God also gave
them up to uncleanness,
in the lusts of their hearts,
to dishonor their bodies
among themselves,
222. 25 who
exchanged the
truth of God for the lie,
and worshiped and
served the creature rather
than the Creator, who is
blessed forever. Amen.
223. 26 For
this reason God
gave them up to vile
passions. For even their
women exchanged the
natural use for what is
against nature.
224. 27 Likewise
also the men,
leaving the natural use of the
woman, burned in their lust
for one another, men with
men committing what is
shameful, and receiving in
themselves the penalty of
their error which was due.
225. 28 And
even as they did not
like to retain God
in their knowledge, God gave
them over to a debased
mind, to do those things
which are not fitting;
Romans 1:24-28 NKJV
226. EITHER GIVE GOD THE
GLORY HE DESERVES
AND DEMANDS OR
FACE HIS WRATH!
227. Romans 1:18 NKJV
18 For the wrath of God is
revealed from heaven against
all ungodliness and
unrighteousness of men,
who suppress the truth in
unrighteousness,
Romans 1:18 NKJV
228. Why should we give God
glory?
We ought to give God glory
because He made us, because
He made us to give Him
glory, and because He judges
those who willfully refuse to
give Him glory.
230. Revelation 14:6-7 NKJV
6 Then I saw another angel
flying in the midst of heaven,
having the everlasting gospel
to preach to those who dwell
on the earth—to every
nation, tribe, tongue, and
people—
231. 7 saying
with a loud voice,
“Fear God and give glory to
Him, for the hour of His
judgment has come; and
worship Him Who made
heaven and earth, the sea
and springs of water.”
Revelation 14:6-7 NKJV
232. What is the everlasting
Gospel?
It's the Gospel of
judgment against unbelief
or against ungodliness or
against failure to give God
glory.
233. This is not the Gospel as
we know it simply
defined in Christ.
It's much broader.
234. It's the Gospel, the News
of God that runs
throughout time and
eternity that God rewards
the righteous, and God
punishes the wicked.
236. In Revelation 14:7 the
angel says, "Fear God and
give glory to Him."
That's the everlasting
Gospel in any generation.
"Fear God and give Him
glory." Why?
237. "For the hour of His
Judgment is come."
What a shocking and a
powerful statement that
is.
"Give God glory because
judgment is coming."
241. At first, let’s focus on just
two of the many ways to
glorify God.
Giving God glory begins
with receiving Jesus
Christ!
242. The number one way to
give God glory is by
receiving Jesus Christ as
your Savior and as your
Lord.
243. Philippians 2:9-11 NKJV
9 Therefore
God also has
highly exalted Him and
given Him the name
which is above every
name,
244. 10 that
at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow, of
those in heaven, and of
those on earth, and of
those under the earth,
245. 11 and
that every tongue
should confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the
glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:9-11 NKJV
246. The second way that you
give God glory is by
intentionally aiming your life
at that purpose.
By intentionally aiming your
life at glorifying Him.
247. You'll never glorify God
in your life until you
intentionally aim your life
at doing that.
248. What does intentionally
aiming your life at
glorifying God include?
Think about the memory
verse we are learning this
year, 1 Corinthians 10:31.
249. 1 Corinthians 10:31 NKJV
31 Therefore, whether you
eat or drink, or whatever
you do, do all to the glory
of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31 NKJV
250. The point of our memory
verse is not only to eat to the
glory of God nor to just drink
to the glory of God but the
point is that whatever you
do, even as mundane as
eating and drinking, ought to
be done to His glory.
251. That is what is meant by
intentionally aiming at
His glory.
252. You're saying to yourself all
the time, "I want to do this
for His glory. I want to do
that for His glory.
Aim your life at the purpose
of glorifying God, in
everything.
255. John 7:16-18 NKJV
16 Jesus
answered them
and said, “My doctrine is
not Mine, but His Who
sent Me.
256. 17 If
anyone wills to do His
will, he shall know
concerning the doctrine,
whether it is from God
or whether I speak on My
own authority.
257. 18 He
who speaks from
himself seeks his own glory;
but He Who seeks
the glory of the One Who
sent Him is true, and no
unrighteousness is in Him.
John 7:16-18 NKJV
258. In other words, Jesus is
saying:
"I live to bring Him glory.
I live to radiate His
attributes.
I live to adorn the
doctrine of God.
259. I live to exalt God and
honor God in the eyes of
the world.
This is the purpose of My
life.“
Jesus
260. Beware of self-glory.
A hypocrite comes along
and tries to steal the glory
from God.
“I want a little glory for
myself."
261. Look long enough in this,
and you may find
yourself.
I found myself here.
262. Free will of man = the
possibility of man trying
to get some of God’s
glory. (that includes me)
263. Matthew 6:1-4 NKJV
1 “Take heed that you do
not do your charitable
deeds before men, to be
seen by them. Otherwise
you have no reward from
your Father in Heaven.
264. 2 Therefore,
when you do
a charitable deed, do not
sound a trumpet before
you as the hypocrites do
in the synagogues and in
the streets, that they may
have glory from men.
265. Assuredly, I say to you,
they have their reward.
3 But
when you do a
charitable deed, do not let
your left hand know what
your right hand is doing,
266. 4 that
your charitable deed
may be in secret; and your
Father Who sees in secret
will Himself reward you
openly.
Matthew 6:1-4 NKJV
267. Can you imagine that?
This guy carries along a
few trumpeters to play a
little fanfare as he arrives
at the temple to drop his
coins in the little deal.
268. Here I am, folks, plunk, plunk,
see me? See?
I want you to see this.
Matthew 6:2b NKJV
2b “As the hypocrites do in the
synagogue and in the streets,
that they may have glory from
men.”
Matthew 6:2b NKJV
269. If you try to steal God's
glory, God doesn't like
that.
Beware of self-glory!
Also called vainglory.
270. When you aim at God's
glory, that automatically
means that you aim away
from your own glory.
271. Anything we do in this
life, whatever it is eating
or drinking or whatever,
ought to be to His glory.
272. Aim always and only and
purely at God's glory.
If you try to steal a little
glory for yourself, you
have stolen the blessing
away from yourself and
lost the joy.
273. At a Christian conference,
a student asked Dr.
Dwight L. Moody if he
knew where they had
been.
Dr. Moody said “No.”
274. Then the young man said,
“We've been at an all
night prayer meeting.
See how our faces shine?”
Dr. Moody said,
“Moses knew not that his
face shone.”
275. Don't try to take any glory
from God, don't attempt
to steal it from Him.
*You're the loser, because
you can't get it from Him.
*You just come out a
hypocrite.
276. Exodus 34:29 NKJV
29 Now it was so, when
Moses came down from
Mount Sinai, that Moses
did not know that the skin
of his face shone while he
talked with Him.
277. *The first principle of
aiming at the glory of God
is the sacrifice of self.
*Aiming at God's glory
means this, it means that
we prefer Him above all
else.
278. We're not thinking about
how good it is going to
make us look.
No.
That's not it.
279. If we try to steal any of
His glory, we've stolen
from ourselves the joy
and the blessing of God.
The glory is His, not ours.
280. Exodus 32:25-29 NKJV
25 Now when Moses saw
that the people were
unrestrained (for Aaron
had not restrained them,
to their shame among
their enemies),
281. 26 then
Moses stood in the
entrance of the camp, and
said, “Whoever is on
the LORD’s side—come to
me!” And all the sons of
Levi gathered themselves
together to him.
282. 27 And
he said to them,
“Thus says the LORD God
of Israel: ‘Let every man
put his sword on his side,
and go in and out from
entrance to entrance
283. 28 So
the sons of Levi did
according to the word of
Moses.
And about three thousand
men of the people fell that
day.
284. 29 Then
Moses said,
“Consecrate yourselves
today to the LORD, that He
may bestow on you a
blessing this day, for every
man has opposed his son
and his brother.”
Exodus 32:25-29 NKJV
285. The glory of God is at
stake here.
God wanted to show the
world for all time that He
shares His glory with no
one.
286. God said,
"Get your swords.
Kill your brother."
"My own brother?
My own friend, my own
neighbor?"
287. Now comes the question
of whether they're gonna
do what was needed to be
done for the glory of God
or what they would do for
their own selves.
288. Exodus 32:28 NKJV
28 "And the children of Levi
did according to the word of
Moses, and there fell of the
people that day about three
thousand men."
Exodus 32:28 NKJV
289. You say, "Why did God
have them do that?"
Because God's glory was
at stake, and God shares
His glory with no other.
290. And those people had to
pay the price of actually
going to kill the people
they loved for the sake of
the glory of God.
That's a high price, isn't it?
291. You, in your life, you aim at
God's glory.
When you consider it and
prefer it above all other
things, whether they be
mundane or whether they be
human.
292. Whether they be coins or
people...
Are you willing to pay a
high price when God’s
glory is at stake in your
business?
294. God was willing to go to
the extreme to protect His
glory when He did not
back off from crushing
His only Son in order to
keep His justice in tact.
295. John 12:27-28 NKJV
27 “Now My soul is
troubled, and what shall I
say? ‘Father, save Me
from this hour’?
But for this purpose I
came to this hour.
296. 28 Father,
glorify Your name.”
Then a voice came from
heaven, saying, “I have both
glorified it and will
glorify it again.”
John 12:27-28 NKJV
297. In other words, "God, if
You're going to get glory out
of this, I submit to it."
What does He say?
"'Father, glorify Thy name,
whatever it costs Me.'
298. And then there came a
voice from Heaven,
saying, 'I have both
glorified it and will
glorify it again.'"
299. Yes, aiming at God's glory
means that I'm content to
do God's will, whatever it
costs.
300. The number one way to
give God glory is by
receiving Jesus Christ as
your Savior and as your
Lord.
301. The second way that you
give God glory is by
intentionally aiming your
life at glorifying Him.
