2. God wants minute-men. He will have men who, when
important decisions are to be made, are as true as the
needle to the pole; men whose special and personal
interests are swallowed up, as were our Saviour's, in
the one great general interest for the salvation of
souls. Satan plays upon the human mind wherever a
chance has been left for him to do so; and he seizes
upon the very time and place where he can do the
most service to himself, and the greatest injury to the
cause of God. A neglect to do what we might do, and
what God requires us to do in his cause, is a sin which
cannot be palliated with excuses of circumstances or
conditions; for Jesus has made provision for all in
every emergency. —Vol. 3, p. 505. {GW92 377.2}
4. Neal Wilson, President of the North American Division of SDA, gives
this Sworn statement in the Silver-Tobler legal case involving the
Seventh-day Adventist Church: Although it is true that there was a
period in the life of the Seventh-day Adventist Church when the
denomination took a distinctly anti-Roman Catholic viewpoint, and
the term, hierarchy was used in a perjorative sense to refer to the
papal form of church governance, that attitude on the Church’s part
was nothing more than a manifestation of widespread anti-popery
among conservative protestant denominations in the early part
of this century and the latter part of the last, and which has now
been assigned to the historical trash heap so far as the Seventh-
day Adventist Church is concerned. Merikay McLeod lawsuit (P.
4, footnote #2, Docket Entry #84: EEOC vs PPPA C-74-2025 CBR).
Sworn statement dated Feb.6, 1976. Further in the same brief:
While, however, Adventist doctrine continues to teach that church
government by one man is contrary to the Word of God, it is not
good Seventh-day Adventism to express… an aversion to
Roman Catholicism as such. (p. 30)
5. 1990 request for a Vatican observer to our delegated assembly:
Seventh-day Adventist faction from Tennessee mailed an unknown
number of anti-Catholic booklets (primarily composed of quotations
from the book, Great Controversy] the week of July 8 to homes in
Indianapolis, where 2,000 (delegates] gathered for the
denomination's 55th world convention, July 6-14.
"Shirley Burton, a spokesperson for the denomination, told the
Indianapolis Star daily newspaper the tract was 'trash.' The
pamphlet, United States in Prophecy, calls Catholicism a pagan
religion and refers to the pope as a beast.
"John F. Fink, editor of the Criterion, Indianapolis archdiocesan
newspaper (wrote this], 'The Seventh-day Adventists have a history
of anti-Catholicism, like many other Protestant religions in the U.S.
during the 18th and 19th centuries. However, the main body of the
Church has moved away from an anti-Catholic position. The new
position of co-operation with the Catholic Church was
exemplified by the invitation from the Seventh-day Adventists to
the Vatican to send an official observer to the conference.
7. Bert Beverly Beach has been
our ecumenical liaison with the
other denominations since at
least 1965, when he became a
member of a World Council of
Churches committee. He made
the presentation of Gold
Medallion to the Pope and let
us analyze it keenly.
8. For the reason that Dr. B. B. Beach was
present on that occasion was due to the
fact that he was there as a participating
member of the "World Confessional
Families."
Commenting on the occasion of this joint
interview with the pope, Religious News
Service said that this gathering marked
the ninth year in which our denomination
had been members of the "World
Confessional Families."
9. "The Vatican Secretariat for the Christian Unity of the Seventh-day
Adventists became regular participants in the Conference (Secretaries of
the World Confessional Families) in 1968."
Why was Dr. Beach selected by our Church as the one to present the gold
medal to the pope? This is something of a puzzler, until one recalls that it
was Dr. B. B. Beach who coauthored that major document, "So Much in
Common" only four years earlier in Geneva, Switzerland with Dr. Lukas
Vischer, Secretary of the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council
of Churches. As a result of that publication, so little known to Adventist
church members, Dr. Beach became well known to leading ecumenists of
the other denominations.
The "Review" for August 11,1977, in briefly commenting on this gift, said
that the gold medal was a "medallion" and "a gold-covered symbol of the
Seventh-day Adventist Church. "
Examining this "symbol" of the Adventist Church more closely, we find that
the obverse (the front side of the gold medal) portrays the resurrection
Christ -not the mediating Christ nor the returning Christ. This is a typical
Protestant Catholic centrality, for they focus their Sunday-keeping on
Christ's resurrection morn, more than any other event in His life, before or
after.
10. Just what IS the "World Confessional Families"?
On page 100-101 of their book, "So Much in Common:' Beach and Vischer
list nine ways in which Seventh-day Adventist involvement in the World
Council of Churches has been of benefit. In the section dealing with this
book, "So Much in Common:' we have considered these benefits.
But one of them was especially significant: Our affiliation in the WCC has
brought our Church, officially, into the "World Confessional Families."
But what is the World Confessional Families? It sounds Catholic. At this
point, all that this writer knows is this:
1- "So Much in Common," p. 100-101, tells us that it was our association
with the WCC that brought us into the WCF:
"5. Participation in Meeting of World Confessional Families-Since 1968 the
General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has been actively
represented at the annual meeting of 'Secretaries of World Confessional
Families.' This participation is largely the result of WCC/SDA Conversations
and contacts that were made at the time of the Uppsala Assembly. It is
hoped that expanded cooperation will ensure between the World
Confessional Families in the vital realm of religious liberty." "So Much in
Common," pp. 100-101.
15. There are several items on this gold medal which are designed to please the pope.
1. Christ is in a Catholic stance, like the Vatican painting by Francis de Assisi, and
idols. His beard is forked.
2. This Christ has no crown on his head. The one in Revelation 19:12 does.
3. It appears that Jesus is standing on the summit of a mountain like Satan will when
personating Christ. The true Christ will not touch the earth when he returns.
4. There is a cloud with nine lightning bolts extending from it, just as mystery
religions and the medieval papacy used. It was a symbol of Satan in the mysteries.
5. There are eight angels. Eight is the symbol of the sun day.
6. The angels are shown facing toward and worshiping Christ, after he has arrived on
earth. (They should be shown as facing the earth with Jesus as they come toward it.)
7. The Christ in Rev. 1:16 has seven stars in his hand. This Christ has six on each
side.
8. The Maltese cross is a Vatican symbol. Typically, this has four equal rays
flowing outward from a central sun. Each ray expands in width as it radiates outward
and terminates in two horns, producing an eight-pointed cross. It is thus a sun
symbol in two ways (the radiating sun, and the eight points.)
9. THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT READS THE SAME WAY THE PAPACY
ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE IT–the way the third commandment is quoted in the
Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine. When the Catholic Church changed
the Sabbath Commandment, what did they change it to? They used the exact
wording given on the back of the gold medal.
16. “It is a backsliding
church that lessens
the distance between
itself and the papacy.”
Ellen White, Signs,
Feb. 19, 1894.
18. Revelation 13 challenged
EVER SINCE THE TERRORIST
attacks on the World Trade
Center by Islamic militants, the
attention of some Christians
has been directed to Bible
prophecy, looking to see
whether the Bible projects any
role for this world religion in
our time.
19. Samuele Bacchiocchi, noted Adventist scholar and author of
various books on current denominational issues, now claims he
is convinced that the Antichrist of Bible prophecy includes Islam
as well as the Roman papacy, and that -- in his view -- the
stated characteristics of Daniel's little-horn power more
accurately reflect Islam than the papacy, specifically with
regard to the uprooting of the three horns (Dan. 7:8, 24) and
the "time and times and the dividing of time" (Dan. 7:25) during
which this power would rule (2).
While he insists that he still holds the papacy to comprise the
prophesied Antichrist, at least in part, he raises serious doubts
about the veracity of 538 as the starting point for the 1,260-day
prophecy (3). He likewise claims that Adventism's historic view
regarding the uprooting of the three horns in Daniel 7:8, 24 is
historically inaccurate (4). And he now views the 1,260-day
prophecy itself as an inexact illustrative device, calling to mind
past periods of sacred history but not necessarily foretelling a
future time of precisely-fulfilled dates (5).
20. Perhaps most seriously of all, when confronted by a respondent with
Ellen White's clear endorsement of Adventism's historic dates for the
1,260-year prophecy (6), Bacchiocchi sought to weaken this fact by
claiming Sister White was "committed to search for truth and recognized
her limitations" (7).
Other than the 2,300-day prophecy of Daniel 8:14, no time prophecy is
more crucial to the identity and purpose of the Seventh-day Adventist
Church than the 1,260 years of papal supremacy (Dan. 7:25; 12:7; Rev.
11:2, 3; 12:6, 14; 13:5). Any disputing of the integrity of this prophecy is
thus extremely serious for any Adventist to contemplate . For
Bacchiocchi to compare Ellen White's alleged "limitations" in
understanding this prophecy to peripheral changes in the 1911 Great
Controversy or similar discrepancies between the four New Testament
Gospels -- as he did in defending his views to one inquirer (8) -- is to
grossly understate the Biblical significance and vital role of this
prophecy.
Recent decades have witnessed a sharp increase in such challenges,
and as the final events draw nearer we can be sure such challenges will
increase even more. And if nothing else, they offer yet another
opportunity to demonstrate the enduring soundness and surety of the
prophetic faith we cherish.
21. Those who might wish further
historical and contemporary evidence
for the 1,260-year prophecy as
historically believed by Adventists,
may wish to consult another article by
the present author, titled, "The
Prophecy Standeth Sure," written to
mark the 200th anniversary of the
captivity of Pope Pius VI in 1798 (9).
22. Stampeded by Events
Throughout the twentieth century, faithful
Adventists steadfastly resisted the
pressure of circumstances and events to
alter our historic view of the Antichrist of
Bible prophecy. Fascism, Communism,
feminism, secular humanism -- these and
other attractive targets have lured
countless conservative Protestants away
from the Reformers' identification of the
papacy as the Biblical Antichrist.
23. For the most part, Seventh-day Adventists have kept clear of
such diversions, recognizing that while numerous crises and
difficulties may arise, they offer no ground to question the
detailed forecast of end-time events provided by Scripture and
the Spirit of Prophecy. At the bottom line, one might well ask
why it is necessary to tamper with the prophecies in order to
find compelling reasons for condemning such anti-Christian
belief systems as Communism or humanism! Many challenges
may indeed face Christians on the road to the final events, but
the details God has provided regarding the key players in
Earth's last drama need not be altered in order to face such
challenges. Whatever we may meet along the way, we know
through prophecy the forces we will meet at the end. God's
servant has written, under divine inspiration, that the Christian
"has a chart pointing out every waymark on the heavenward
journey, and he ought not to guess at anything" (10).
24. Sadly, Bacchiocchi's new understanding of the
Antichrist prophecies seems less the product of
careful Bible or historical study than an all-too-obvious
reaction to the recent focus on Islamic terrorism in the
wake of September 11. Bacchiocchi frankly admits
this. In his newsletter he writes, "In good conscience I
cannot ignore the Biblical implications of the current
war on terrorism" (11). Regarding the Adventist
pioneers and their understanding of the Antichrist
prophecies, he claims:
"It is unfortunate that our Adventist pioneers did not
consider the prophetic role of Islam, as the
counterpart of the papal Antichrist. Let us not blame
them for this shortsightedness. After all, they lived
before September 11 at a time when the Muslim
25. In short, Bacchiocchi's views represent a clear case of
stampeded prophetic interpretation. Various others,
mostly on the fringes of modern Adventism, have
likewise ventured to tamper with our historic prophetic
understandings, often in reaction to world events they
too thought significant. Few, however, have
possessed the credibility or scholarly reputation of
Samuele Bacchiocchi. To his credit, he describes his
conclusions on this issue as "tentative" (13) and
admits it would be "presumptuous to claim that this
newsletter offers comprehensive answers" to the
questions he raises (14). We can only pray that the
weight of inspired and historical evidence will cause
him to withdraw and disavow this case of misbegotten
creativity.
27. DANIEL 11:41- "He shall enter also into the glorious
land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but
these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and
Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon"
As the king of the North marched South in those ancient
campaigns against Egypt, he marched through "the glorious land."
So in this time of the final conflict, the king of the North will enter
"the glorious land" and overthrow "tens of thousands." R.S.V.
("Countries" in verse 41 is a supplied word). This repeats in
principle what happened many times during the history of the
Jews. Especially does Daniel 11:40 (last part), 41 sound like a re-
fulfillment of Assyria's invasion of Judea, which has already been
cited from Isaiah 8. It is perfectly obvious that "the glorious land"
in the time of the end has no relation to the Middle East. George
McCready Price comes close to the truth when he suggests that it
"probably means the Protestant world as a whole.'' The Greatest of
the Prophets, p. 315.
28. But unless his point is clarified, it could be very
misleading. Protestantism so-called in the world today is
not "the glorious land," for since 1844 the Sunday-
keeping Protestant bodies are part of Babylon
(Revelation 14:8). Indeed, they constitute apostate
Protestantism. The Advent Movement is now the
successor of the Protestant Reformation. "The glorious
land" must therefore embrace the people of the Advent
Movement the world over. Truth often appears to be
frightening. It flatters neither man nor denominational
ego. Many have been educated to think that the true
Church of the last days is impregnable. It will finally
become impregnable, but that is mentioned in verse 45,
not verse 41.
29. The word of God plainly declares
that his law is to be scorned,
trampled upon, by the world; there
will be an extraordinary prevalence
of iniquity. The professed Protestant
world will form a confederacy with
the man of sin, and the church and
the world will be in corrupt harmony.

30. In this state of things it was decided that we would return to Battle Creek and
there remain while the roads were in a muddy, broken-up condition, and that I
would there complete No. 12. My husband was very anxious to see his brethren
at Battle Creek and speak to them and rejoice with them in the work which God
was doing for him. I gathered up my writings, and we started on our journey. On
the way we held two meetings in Orange and had evidence that the was profited
and encouraged. We were ourselves refreshed by the Spirit of the Lord. That
night I dreamed that I was in Battle Creek looking out from the side glass at the
door and saw a company marching up to the house, two and two. They looked
stern and determined. I knew them well and turned to open the parlor door to
receive them, but thought I would look again. The scene was changed. The
company now presented the appearance of a Catholic procession. One bore in
his hand a cross, another a reed. And as they approached, the one carrying a
reed made a circle around the house, saying three times: "This house is
proscribed. The goods must be confiscated. They have spoken against our holy
order." Terror seized me, and I ran through the house, out of the north door, and
found myself in the midst of a company, some of whom I knew, but I dared not
speak a word to them for fear of being betrayed. I tried to seek a retired spot
where I might weep and pray without meeting eager, inquisitive eyes wherever I
turned. I repeated frequently: "If I could only understand this! If they will tell me
what I have said or what I have done!" {1T 577.2}
36. So we find that the Logo: the symbol of our message and
the Sabbath: the banners of our belief are trying to be
changed because they were not securing success to our
institutions! The former has been done away with, what
about the latter! Let’s see the difference. All the other
churches have The Bible, The Cross and The Holy Spirit. In
the Adventist home the GC tells us this on the current
Logo: “It’s the foundation of Adventist belief and maybe
recognized symbol of the Adventist Message to the world”.
LIES FOLKS. What did Ellen G say is a symbol of our
message to the world in 2SM 387 (1)? The 3 Angel’s logo.
What the GC has given us are lies friends. And what’s the
latest development in this church? In the universal
meeting (1982) the SDA church voted positive to transmit
the BEM Document to the churches for their response.
B.E.M. document (Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry)
famously referred to as the Lima Text with the Catholic
Church.
37. (No authentic Seventh-day Adventist could
accept such a preposition. In past ages
myriads of God’s faithful people died
because they believed in adult believers’
baptism by complete immersion, following
in the footsteps of their Saviour, and
because they held infant baptism to be
wholly unscriptural. How could Seventh-day
Adventists ever agree to the equality of one
form of baptism, which is predicated upon
the words and example of Jesus, and the
other one, which has no foundation within
the Word of God?)”
38. On the Eucharist he said this, “(The term Eucharist is
certainly not a Protestant term, yet at least in one church
in Auckland, New Zealand, and one church in Sydney,
Australia, the communion has been referred to in their
church bulletin as the Eucharist. This Catholicizing of the
Adventist Church is not by accident. It is a deliberate effort
to bring us under the banner of the Papacy controlled by
Satan. (When we recognize the absolutely blasphemous
claims of the Roman Catholic Church, which claims that
the Priest is the creator of his Creator, that in the wafer he
creates Christ in reality; when one considers the claims
that the Priest can move Christ here and there, backward
and forward, once again no earnest Seventh-day Adventist
could ever accept such an abominable compromise. Also
myriads of God’s people in the past lost their lives
because they refused to accept such blasphemous claims
of the Papacy.)”
41. Dr. Raoul Dederen, professor at the Seminary
at Andrews University (The Seventh Day
Adventist biggest College), was the Seventh-
day Adventist representative at this meeting.
Raul Dederen was a Jesuit Priest, it’s a fact of
history: HIGHER MEN IN HIGHER POSITIONS
IN HIGHER PLACES (that is The GC). We
celebrated the success of the B.E.M. document
in 2007. Do we baptize the same as the
Catholic Church; do we believe that when we
take the Holy Communion it’s the actual body
of Christ brethren?

(Our Distinctive Signs are

When the symbols change,

49. Our Distinctive Sign
The banner of the third angel has inscribed upon it, "The
commandments of God and the faith of Jesus." Our institutions
have taken a name which sets forth the character of our faith, and
of this name we are never to be ashamed. I have been shown that
this name means much, and in adopting it we have followed the
light given us from heaven. . . . The Sabbath is God's memorial of
His creative work, and it is a sign that is to be kept before the
world. {2SM 384.3}
There is to be no compromise with those who are worshiping an
idol sabbath. We are not to spend our time in controversy with
those who know the truth, and upon whom the light of truth has
been shining, when they turn away their ear from the truth to turn
to fables. I was told that men will employ every policy to make less
prominent the difference between the faith of Seventh-day
Adventists and those who observe the first day of the week. In this
controversy the whole world will be engaged, and the time is short.
This is no time to haul down our colors. {2SM 385.1}
50. A company was presented before me under the name of Seventh-
day Adventists, who were advising that the banner or sign which
makes us a distinctive people should not be held out so strikingly;
for they claimed it was not the best policy in securing success to
our institutions. This distinctive banner is to be borne through the
world to the close of probation. In describing the remnant people
of God, John says, "Here is the patience of the saints: here are
they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus"
(Revelation 14:12). This is the law and the gospel. The world and
the churches are uniting in harmony in transgressing the law of
God, in tearing away God's memorial, and in exalting a sabbath
that bears the signature of the man of sin. But the Sabbath of the
Lord thy God is to be a sign to show the difference between the
obedient and the disobedient. I saw some reaching out their
hands to remove the banner, and to obscure its significance. . . .

51. The world and its scientists can acknowledge that
E.G. White was 100 years ahead of time but now
Seventh Day Adventists says that her messages
are old stuff, she never did theology and she is
just our favorite writer. Every church are proud of
their prophets, Hindus and Dalai Lama, Muslim
and Mohamed, Pentecostal and their fanatics,
Confucius and their Confucius, and these folks
are too ready to stone you when you speak of
their prophets yet they are false prophets while
Seventh Day Adventists have become afraid of a
True prophet, WE DON’T WANT TO BE SOCIAL
MISFITS WITH OUR E.G. WHITE.
52. Daniel 11:41 is the only passage in either Daniel or the
Revelation that specifically mentions the great sifting in
the Church of God at the time of the great final, test.
Adventists should have no difficulty in recognizing the
Sunday-law decree of Revelation 13 as the crisis that will
greatly reduce the ranks of true Sabbath-keepers. Ellen
G. White says that "chaff like a cloud" and "a large
class" will "abandon their position and join the ranks of
the opposition" Testimonies, vol. 5, pp. 81, 136; The
Great Controversy, p. 608. Indeed, Inspiration warns that
the mighty shaking will be so devastating that "the
Church may appear as about to fall" 2 Selected
Messages, p. 380. It will be the greatest crisis in the
history of God's people, the darkest hour in the
experience of the true Church.
53. Assyria's invasion of Judea under Sennacherib and the terrible
ravages of Judea wrought by his armies serve as an accurate type
of this last conflict. Habakkuk also saw a vision of the Northern
armies descending upon God's people. The prophet had been
complaining to God about the sinful condition of His people and
challenging the Lord to do something about it (Habakkuk 1:1-4).
Then the Lord answered the prophet: "Behold ye among the
heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a
work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation,
which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the
dwelling places that are not theirs" Habakkuk 1:5, 6. One might
naturally raise the question as to whether God has made any way
of escape from the king of the North. The prophet Joel also speaks
of the Northern army coming against God's people and threatening
them with heathen rule (See Joel 2:17, 20). But he adds, "In
Mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance" Joel 2:32.
54. It is significant to notice from the type of Sennacherib's
invasion of Judea, that the enemy did not enter the city of
Jerusalem. What is the significance of Mount Zion being
the way of escape from the king of the North? "The
sanctuary of strength," both in type and antitype, is
depicted as being on Mount Zion. It has been seen that
the word "strength" comes from the Hebrew word
“maoz”, which means "refuge" or "fortress." During the
Dark Ages the Church was robbed of this place of refuge
by the Roman apostasy, which obscured the truth of the
heavenly sanctuary. But since 1844 the light concerning
the sanctuary has been restored to God's people. This is
the refuge, the fortress and the saints' source of power.
55. More significantly, Daniel 8:14 shows that the time of the final test
occurs during the great antitypical day of atonement. During the ancient
Day of Atonement, the whole congregation of Israel were required to
gather about the sanctuary in prayer, fasting and deep searching of
heart (Leviticus 16; 23:27-32; The Great Controversy, pp. 430-432).
Those who failed to afflict their souls at the sanctuary were cut off from
among God's people. So, in this hour of the cleansing of the heavenly
sanctuary, God's people are called to gather on Mount Zion, where they
may enter by faith into the most Holy Place. Says the prophet Joel:
"Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the
inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry unto
the Lord." "Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn
assembly: gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the
elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the
bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet. Let
the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the
altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, 0 Lord, and give not thine
heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore
should they say among the people, Where is their God?" Joel 1:14; 2:15-
17.
56. Ellen G. White wrote: "I dreamed of seeing a temple to which
many people were flocking. Only those who took refuge in
that temple would be saved when time should close" Early
Writings, p. 78. In its present Laodicean state, the Church of
God is obviously not ready for the crisis, for it is not fulfilling
the conditions of the great antitypical Day of Atonement. For
this reason God is sending an awakening message to the
Church, a message which points the people of God to the
closing ministration of Jesus in the most holy place of the
heavenly sanctuary. The message of Joel 2 is being sounded,
and Israel is being called beneath the mediatorial wings of
Christ. Those who are found united with Christ in sympathy,
understanding and faith in His work of final atonement in the
most holy place will be preserved from the overflowing
scourge. All who remain aloof from the call to the sanctuary
will be swept into the ranks of the anti-Christ.
57. “Those who would share the benefits of the Saviour's
mediation should permit nothing to interfere with their duty
to perfect holiness in the fear of God. The precious hours,
instead of being given to pleasure, to display, or to gain
seeking, should be devoted to an earnest, prayerful study of
the word of truth. The subject of the sanctuary and the
investigative judgment should be clearly understood by the
people of God. All need a knowledge for themselves of the
position and work of their great High Priest. Otherwise it will
be impossible for them to exercise the faith which is
essential at this time or to occupy the position which God
designs them to fill. Every individual has a soul to save or to
lose. Each has a case pending at the bar of God. Each must
meet the great Judge face to face.” – GC 488

61. Before the 1985 General Conference Session in New Orleans, much
had been said about the development of the new Seventh-day
Adventist Hymnal. At that Session, it was introduced with much
interest and huge sales. But this new, strange, hymnal introduces
into the Seventh-day Adventist divine worship service hymns and
Scripture readings containing Roman Catholic teachings not found in
any earlier Adventist hymnal.
SCRIPTURES USED IN THE NEW HYMNAL
The old Church Hymnal quoted exclusively from the tried and tested
Protestant King James Version of the Bible. But the new hymnal uses
a plethora of versions, the majority of which are greatly faulted
versions, the translators of which have ignored the Divine
anathemas:
“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy
of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add
unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man
shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God
shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy
city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Revelation
62. There are 225 passages of Scripture in the Seventh-day
Adventist Hymnal, consisting of 135 response readings, 14
Canticles and Prayers, 36 calls to worship, 13 words of
assurance, 14 offertory sentences, and 13 benedictions.
The use of the various Scripture versions is as follows:
New International Version (NIV) 69 (31%)
Jerusalem Bible (a Roman Catholic Translation)
38 (17%)
New King James Version (NKJV) 33 (14%)
Revised Standard Version (RSV) 28 (12%)
New English Bible (NEB) 22 (10%)
The Good News Bible (TEV, Today’s English Version) 15
(7%)
King James Version (KJV) 15 (7%)
New American Standard Bible (NASB) 4 (2%)
63. It is truly shocking that in our official church hymnal, the
Roman Catholic Jerusalem Bible is used more
than 2 ½ times more than from the Protestant
King James Version! The relegation of the King James
Version to less than 7% of the passages utilized,
demonstrates a decided move away from the Bible of the
English Reformation and the Bible which established the
Seventh-day Adventist Church. To cite the Roman Catholic
Jerusalem Bible well over twice as many times as the
Protestant and much more accurate King James Version,
demonstrates a thinking that does Seventh-day Adventists
no credit. The fearfully faulted and inaccurate New
International Version (not a Protestant version) is
used almost five times the frequency of the best
Bible version in the English Language, the King
64. Scripture Reading, No. 756 (From Psalm 51, NIV)
Teaches the Catholic doctrine of Original Sin! That
this hymnal would prefer the NIV translation of Psalms
51:5, with its blatant distortion of Scripture, in order to
uphold the disgraceful concept of original sin is
unconscionable. It reads thus: Surely I have been a sinner
from birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
From Psalm 51:5, N.I.V. The Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal
Committee has included apostate doctrines of the fallen
churches of Babylon. It is difficult to believe that there was
not a determined element on the Committee deviously
implanting Roman Catholic concepts into this hymnal, fully
aware of that which they were achieving. A like number of
passages from the Jerusalem Bible and the use of modern
versions palatable to Roman Catholics, is but one evidence
65. ROMAN LITURGY
The Roman Catholic unity is based upon conformity to their liturgy. Thus, it is
alarming that the Roman Catholic liturgical terms have been introduced into
the Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal. Such serve to desensitize Seventh-day
Adventists to the inroads of Roman Catholic thinking. Even the use of the term
“Canticles” in the sub-heading “Canticles and Prayers,” prior to No. 831
achieves this purpose. And the term is used by Roman Catholics for all the
Scripture passages in the back of their hymnbooks. Yet, much more serious is
the use of Roman Catholic liturgical terms for some of these canticles.
Canticles and Prayers No. 833 shows this fact by its Latin designation,
the Sanctus,
No. 835 is termed the Magnificat,
No. 836 the Benedictus,
No. 837 the Nunc Dimittis, and
No. 832 the De Profundis.
Seventh-day Adventists have never heard of these Latin terms before! Listen to
this quotation from the Catholic Encyclopedia. p. 93: “Canticles have been
incorporated into the Divine Office of the Church [the best known are] the
Magnificat (Lk. 1:46-55), the Benedictus (Lk. 1:68-79), and the Nunc Dimittis
(Lk. 2:29-32).” Why were these Catholic names for Scripture printed in the SDA
Hymnal?
66. HYMNS CAREFULLY SELECTED & CHANGED
The hymns below have all had been added, or had their wording
changed to teach Catholic doctrine. Was this accidental? No. How
do we know? The new SDA Church Hymnal tells us:
“The committee has sought hymns well suited for congregational
singing and examined each one for scriptural and
doctrinal soundness. They sought hymns that affirm the
distinctive beliefs of Seventh-day Adventists as well as
those that express points of faith we hold in common
with other Christian bodies. Hymnals old and new
provided texts and tunes of enduring value from other
churches. Sometimes it was necessary to alter the text
of these hymns to eliminate theological aberrations or
awkward, jarring expressions.
“With great caution, the text committee replaced
archaic and exclusive language whenever this could be
done without disturbing familiar phrases, straining fond
67. NEW CATHOLIC HYMNS ADDED
Hymn No. 3 (God Himself Is With Us): Verse two of this hymn also
elevates the Roman Catholic concept of Mary, Come, abide within
me; Let my soul, like Mary, Be Thine earthly sanctuary. This again
assumes Mary is still alive. Gerhardt Tersteegen wrote the words of
this hymn in German. A literal translation of the German words
which he originally penned possesses no reference to Mary
whatsoever. The original words were, Lord, come dwell in me, Let
my heart and my spirit, Be another temple for Thee. Why did the
SDA church hymnal committee accept a Catholic change to an
originally Protestant hymn?
Hymn No. 142 (Angels We Have Heard on High): In this hymn,
verse four uplifts the Catholic notion that the dead are
heavenly saints who can assist us: Mary, Joseph, lend your
aid, while we raise our hearts in love. This verse has no place in a
true Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal. In fact, this song was never
found in earlier SDA hymnals. We should not be invoking the aid of
68. Hymn No. 403 (Let Us Break Bread Together): In this hymn
abject sun worship is promoted. It is probably the best known of the
aberrant hymns. When I fall on my knees, With my face to
the rising sun, O Lord, have mercy on me. This comes straight out
of Babylonian paganism. Such sun worship was condemned by God
in the days of the prophet Ezekiel. And he brought me into the inner
court of the LORD’S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of
the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and
twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and
their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the
east. Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a
light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations
which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence,
and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the
branch to their nose. Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall
not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears
with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them. Ezekiel 8:16-18.
69. With the above hymn, you could use Call To Worship No. 864. This Call to
Worship is based on Psalm 118:24-26. But instead of reading, This is the day
which the Lord hath made. We will rejoice and be glad in it, as it does in the KJV,
the SDA hymnal committee chose to use the The Good News Bible which says, This
is the day of the Lord’s victory; let us be happy, let us celebrate! These words point
the minds of many worshippers to Sunday, the day that Christ rose from the grave.
Hymn No. 471 (Grant Us Your Peace) All the verses of this hymn are
virtually identical to the hymn sheet handed out in the Vatican Square
when the Pope lectures the assembled crowd. The four verses are
identical in four languages, Latin, English, French, and Spanish. The English states:
Father, grant us, grant us Your peace; Oh, loving Father, grant us Your peace.
Grant us, grant us peace; Grant us, grant us, grant us Your peace. Grant us, grant
us peace; Loving Father, grant us Your peace. In four different languages,
thousands of faithful Catholics, with their eyes fixed on their holy father standing in
the distant window, intone their worshipful prayer to him. Consider the Latin
version of what they tell him, as it is written in our new SDA Hymnal. Dona nobis
pacem, pacem; Dona nobis pacem. Dona nobis pacem. Dona nobis pacem. Dona
nobis pacem. Dona nobis pacem. This same Latin phrase is in a Catholic mass.
(Did not Jesus say not to use vain repetitions in Matth 6:7?)
Seventh-day Adventists are to sing all four stanzas. Latin is the official language in
only one country of the world–the Roman Catholic Church (a.k.a. the Vatican). Why
are SDA’s given a stanza in Latin to sing?
70. THE TWELVE TRINITY HYMNS
Never before in any SDA Hymnal was there an entire section of hymns
dedicated to THE TRINITY. This hymnal has at least twelve such hymns, which
designates it as acceptable to Babylon (the Roman Catholic church and the World
Council of Churches). All twelve will be mentioned, but we will mention nine of
them here:
Hymn No. 73 (Holy, Holy, Holy) This hymn was originally written in 1826 by
Reginald Heber. In its original form it was a Trinitarian song, which read at the end
of the first and fourth stanzas as follows: “God in three persons, blessed
Trinity!”
This song was put into the 1909 and 1941 Seventh-day Adventist
Hymnals, but the trinity part was changed to: “God over all who rules eternity!” and
“Perfect in power, in love and purity.” This song was purposely changed into a non-
trinitarian song by Seventh-day Adventists, reflecting their views on the Trinity at the
time of the change.
In the new 1985 Adventist Hymnal this song was changed
back to its original, reflecting the new views of the Adventist Church
at this time. Unless there is a public repentance, we can only
conclude that once it was Non-Trinitarian, but now has changed into a
Trinitarian church.
Hymn 47: (God, Who Made the Earth and Heaven) In this hymn, SDA’s
71. Hymn No. 71 (Come, Thou Almighty King) Again, the wording of this hymn
was changed in the new hymnal! In this hymn, SDA worshippers are led to worship
the Catholic Trinity concept of God: “To Thee, great One in Three, eternal
praises be.” Old SDA hymnals did not have this wording.
Hymn No. 72 (Creator of the Stars of Night) This hymn written in the
800’s in Latin probably by a Catholic during the Dark Ages. Adventists are again
led to sing to a false God with these words: “To God the Father, God the Son, and
God the Spirit, Three in one.”
Hymn 27: (Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart!)
Verse 5 was taken out of the old hymnal and replaced with: “Praise Him who reigns
on high, The Lord whom we adore, The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, One God
forevermore.”
Hymn 30: (Holy God, We Praise Your Name – Stanza 4) “Three we name
You; While in essence only one.” In the “trinity” concept all three
“manifestations” of God are of one substance.
Hymn No. 116 (Of The Father’s Love Begotten) This new hymn teaches
Adventists that Christ was begotten “Ere the worlds began to be.” That Jesus is
begotten from all eternity and through all eternity is a Trinity concept. SDA’s
believe that Jesus had life original, unborrowed, and underived.
72. Hymn No. 234 (Christ Is the World’s Light) This hymn teaches SDA’s to
pray to the Catholic Trinity. Three Persons are the same god: “Give God the
glory, God and none other. Give God the glory, Spirit, Son, and Father; Give God
the glory.” by the way there is no place we are told to pray to pray or give glory
to the Holy Spirit
Hymn No. 235 (Christ is Made the Sure Foundation) This was a
“Latin hymn” of the 7th century. It was in the old SDA hymnal, but the hymnal
committee decided to replace the old fourth stanza with a new one that now
leads Seventh-day Adventists to worship the Catholic Trinity concept of God:
“Praise and honor to the Father, Praise and honor to the Son, Praise and honor
to the Spirit, Ever three and ever one.” The oneness meant is a physical
oneness, for in the Trinity, all are composed of the same identical substance.
Scripture Reading No. 709 (“Trinity”, from Eph. 1, 2, and 4,
R.S.V.) This Scripture teaches about the Godhead, but the title teaches
Adventists to call God by the Catholic term—“Trinity”.
The inclusion of these Trinitarian songs makes every hymn to God in the book
directed to the trinity. Seventh-day Adventist believe in the God-head (God
family) composed of 3 distinct eternal Beings not a “three in one” concept.
Spirit of Prophecy calls the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—“The Heavenly Trio.”
73. HYMNS BY JOHN M. NEALE (1818-1866)
When the Second Advent movement was preaching the coming of Christ
in 1843-44, John M. Neale was part of the Oxford Movement a
movement originating from Oxford University in England to encourage
the Romanization of the Anglican church and England. John M. Neale
helped in this movement by translating old Catholic hymns into English.
Those who made the new SDA hymnal saw their value—selecting 13 of
them. They are: Hymn No. 42, 72, 115, 116, 136, 169, 170,
230, 235, 424, 429, 629, 646. Three of these (italicized) are in
the list of the ten new Trinity hymns.
CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA (c. 200)
Clement, the founder of the Alexandrian school of theology, which mixed
pagan philosophy with truth and corrupted the Bible manuscripts, gives
us Hymn No. 555.
THE VENERABLE BEDE (673-735)
This Benedictine monk in Northumbria, England, wrote Hymn No. 228
in the SDA hymnal, where Adventists can sing about Jesus, who is “with
Father and with Spirit, one”—another hymn devoted to the Trinity that
Bede believed in.
74. JOHN OF DAMASCUS (676-749)
John was a monk in Syria, who composed hymns which are still in
everyday use in Eastern Christian monasteries throughout the world.
Two are in the SDA hymnal! Hymn Nos. 169 and 170 (two
versions of the same hymn) call the Catholic faithful to
celebrate Easter—“the royal feast of feasts.”
BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX (1090-1153)
In the early 1100’s AD, a great hero of the persecuted Church of
the Wilderness, Henry of Lausanne, rose up in southern France
preaching the true Word of God—that baptism avails nothing
without faith; that Christ is only spiritually present in the
sacrament; that prayers and alms profit not dead men;
that purgatory is a mere invention; and the church is not
made up of cemented stones, but of believing men.
Thousands flocked to hear his sermons. Rome’s churches were
emptying; the priests were without flocks; and pilgrimages, fasts,
invocation of saints, and oblations for the dead were all neglected.
75. Bernard of Clairvaux, the most commanding figure in
the papal world, was sent to oppose Henry. Bernard, was the only
man in Europe, who could and did (at the Papacy’s behest), persuade the
leaders of Europe to engage in the Second Crusade. It was he, who had
determined who would be the next pope, and, in fact, his power was greater
than the pope. He elevated the worship of Mary in the Catholic
church. He helped to start the order of the Knights Templar. He helped
to direct the Romanizing of the Celtic church in the British
isles.
Against Henry, Bernard had the civil arm to cooperate with
his eloquence. Henry was seized, carried before Pope Eugenius III, who
presided at a Council that condemned and imprisoned him. From that time
we hear no more of him, and his fate can only be guessed at.
Bernard of Clairvaux has three hymns respectfully placed in the
middle of our “Protestant” SDA hymnal by his admirers—Hymns No. 156,
241, and 242. Today, in the last hymn, he teaches Adventists
to sing these words that Catholics can sing concerning the
Eucharist: “We taste Thee, O thou living Bread, and long to feast upon
thee still; We drink of Thee, the Fountainhead, and thirst our souls from
thee to fill.”
76. BERNARD OF CLUNY (Early 1100’s)
A Benedictine monk of the first half of the twelfth century, Bernard has two
hymns in the SDA church hymnal—Hymns No. 424 and 429—which
together teach Adventists that the righteous dead are not
resting in the grave awaiting their resurrection, but are now in
heaven praising the Trinity God that he believed in.
FRANCIS OF ASSISI (1181-1226)
Hymn No. 2 (All Creatures of Our God and King) is written by one
of the most famous and popular of Catholic “saints,”—the founder of the
“Franciscan” order. In this Catholic hymn, not found in any
previous SDA hymnal, Adventists worship the Catholic concept
of God with these words: “Oh, Praise the Father, praise the Son, and
Praise the Spirit, Three in One.” (Interestingly, Francis is a favorite
among ecumenicals. His “Song of Brother Sun” was chosen at one
major interfaith gathering as the single song that everyone present—
Christian and non-Christian—could sing together.)
THOMAS A KEMPIS (1380-1471)
This Roman Catholic monk has given the SDA hymnal yet another Hymn
No. 148 devoted to “the Trinity whom we adore forever and forevermore.”
77. CHRISTINA ROSSETTI (1830-1894)
Christina was an English poet. She, her mother, and her sister became
seriously interested in the Anglo-Catholic movement that was part of the Church
of England. Her Hymn No. 126 stanza 2 teaches SDA’s that there
are many arch-angels.
ALTERED HYMNS
Altered Hymns Nos. 27, 71, 73, and 235 are already mentioned.
Hymn No. 402 (By Christ Redeemed): There is a major Catholic error in
this hymn as verse two upholds the blasphemous doctrine of
transubstantiation in the eucharist:
“His broken body in our stead Is here, in this memorial bread.”
This is the false Catholic doctrine that the
substance of the bread and wine are changed into the actual flesh
and blood of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, even though the
external appearance remains the same. We, as Protestants believe
that the communion bread and unfermented grape juice are symbols of Christ
flesh and blood.
George Rawson, the author of this hymn, did NOT write “Is
here”, but “is shown”. Who changed the words? Unless there is
a public repentance, we can only conclude that the changes
78. Hymn No. 300 (Rock of Ages): Investigative Judgment Down-
graded. In verse three, the message of God’s judgment is taken from
the hymn. Augustus Toplady had written,
“When I soar to worlds unknown, see Thee on Thy judgment
throne”
But in the new hymnal the words were changed to:
“When I soar to worlds unknown, And behold Thee on Thy
throne.”
Why was the word “judgment” left out, especially at a
time when the judgment hour message is so essential to be shared
with the inhabitants of the world? The previous Church Hymnal,
No. 474 made no such deletion in the fourth verse.
Surely this was a deliberate decision to eliminate the
judgment message from this hymn. There is a judgment before
the Second Advent! New theology teaches that the judgment
occurred at the cross when Jesus died.
Again every hymn was carefully examined, and we must
conclude this was not an accident—until we hear a public
79. Hymn No. 125 (Joy to The World): Second Advent Down-graded. The words
of verse one in this well-known hymn in the new SDA Hymnal state:
“Joy to the world, the Lord is come!”
Isaac Watts’ original words were:
“Joy to the world, the Lord will come!”
Surely the original words of this hymn would have been far more appropriate for
Seventh-day Adventists looking for the second advent of our Lord.
Hymn No. 518 (Standing on the Promises): The fourth verse that
teaches how to gain victory over sin—“Standing on the promises I cannot
fall, listening every moment to the Spirit’s call, Resting in my Savior as my all in
all,”— was deleted.
TWO STRANGE HYMNS
Hymn No. 194 (Sing We of the Modern City) This hymn has this strange
wording in stanza 2: “Christ is present, and among us; In the crowd we see Him
stand. In the bustle of the city Jesus Christ is every man.”
Hymn No. 648 (I Vow to Thee, My Country) This is a strange hymn exhorting
the worshipper to vow a nationalistic vow to give one’s life to his earthly country: “I
vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the
service of my love: The love that asks the reason, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the
love that pays the price.” What is this doing in a church hymnal?
80. We would be very naïve if we did not
believe that there are those within our
Church, obviously in positions of
influence, who are working deceptively to
change the very foundations of our faith.
Since 1985, the SDA church officially has
a hymnal that Catholics would approve of
and from which Adventists worship the
god of the beast system.
82. DANIEL 12:3- "And they that be wise shall shine
as the brightness of the firmament; and they that
turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever
and ever."
This beautiful promise includes not only the living saints
who are glorified shortly before the coming of Christ, but all
who come forth in the resurrection of the just. Jesus said,
"Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the
kingdom of their Father" Matthew 13:43.
The long, turbulent stream of history is running its course
almost to its end now. For the saints it ends not in desert
sands, but it flows out into the sea - "the sea of glass."
Fellow pilgrims, look up! The sky is flushed with the glory of
eternity!
83. Satan will work his miracles to deceive; he
will set up his power as supreme. The
church may appear as about to fall, but it
does not fall. It remains, while the sinners
in Zion will be sifted out--the chaff
separated from the precious wheat. This is
a terrible ordeal, but nevertheless it must
take place. None but those who have been
overcoming by the blood of the Lamb and
the word of their testimony will be found
with the loyal and true, without spot or
stain of sin, without guile in their mouths.
We must be divested of our self-
84. There are many in the church who at heart belong
to the world, but God calls upon those who claim
to believe the advanced truth, to rise above the
present attitude of the popular churches of today.
Where is the self-denial, where is the cross-
bearing that Christ has said should characterize
His followers? The reason we have had so little
influence upon unbelieving relatives and
associates is that we have manifested little
decided difference in our practices from those of
the world. Parents need to awake, and purify their
souls by practicing the truth in their home life.
WHEN WE REACH THE STANDARD THAT THE LORD
WOULD HAVE US REACH, WORLDLINGS WILL
REGARD SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS AS ODD,
