Q&A with Marcus Tan
How did you start up a company?
= “we started of as landscape contractors,
and currently we diversify during the 6
years and we did design as well so we are
both consultants and contractors”
Do you appreciate working
as a landscape architect?
(knowing that this is a
family business) and is it
more pressure to work
there?
= “I think it was sort of like
a brainwash when you’re a
young kid, my dad used to
bring me to construction
sites and I think that is
where I got the
appreciation for landscape
and also a bit of
construction. Obviously
there is a bit of pressure
because family has a
business of the same
certain level and I think I
coped with it pretty well
In terms of design, tell us about the
moment you decided that this is where
you want to go. And how did you start
doing it?
=“I guess starting your job as a contractor
in the early years we decided to just try a
bit of design and when you are doing the
projects we tend to familiarize yourself
with all the latest design as well and we
thought we can also do just as well as
what these people can do so what I
decided to do is that I form a partnership
with few other landscape architects” “I
think that landscape architecture has
played a very significant part nowadays”
