Having founded the Infosys foundation, the
company strengthened its commitment to social
causes like aiding the destitute and the
disadvantaged people.
One percent of Infosys’ profit goes to the
foundation annually(post taxation).

In 2003-04 Infosys initiated 3 social programmes to
improve the computer literacy among rural people,
including the teachers in those areas.
Along with Microsoft, Infosys launched a
programme, computer@classrooms, giving away
old computers to educational institutions.
5. Infosys Foundation
The foundation was started as a support to
the underprivileged in the society in
Karnataka (1996).
Today the operations extend to the sates of
Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra,
Orissa & Punjab.
The foundation focuses on improving healthcare,
education and basic facilities in the society.
6. Health Care: constructed hospitals, donated expensive
equipments and distributed medicines for free.
Social Rehabilitation & Rural Upliftment: constructed
orphanages, girls’ hostels, shelters and undertook
various initiatives to help the needy.
Learning & Education: undertook ‘A Library for Every
School’, the largest education programme in India.
Provided scholarships and even constructed schools in
rural areas.
Arts & Culture: donated cassettes & players in
Karnataka, held puppet shows and encouraged artists
to perform.
7. Other Major Contributions
Infosys Technologies donated ` 50 million to the
Prime Ministers relief fund, to assist the tsunami
victims.
Instituted the Infosys Fellowship
programme(1999) to foster excellence in
education.
Offered funds to 5 IITs and 3 IIMs for PhD
programmes, granting ` 900,000 per fellowship.
