Feminism
1.
2. Description
This documentary would look into the history of feminism how
it has changed over the years, for example how is it seen and
treated by people nowadays. Especially since some people have
labeled certain feminists as “anti male” and don’t consider them
to be true to the cause in any way.
This show would be unique because most of the controversy on
modern feminism it quite recent and because its such a delicate
subject that most documentaries would just leave the subject
rather than trying to wade through the delicacies of talking
about it
This idea was found as I was surfing the internet and found
heated discussions on different social forums, 4chan, Facebook,
Tumblr, etc, upon what is seen as an actual feminist and what
they’re movement is actually trying to achieve.
3. The Aim
The aim of the show would be to look into the controversy
that modern feminism has caused. Also it would help
educate people who don’t really know what feminism in
it’s fullest really is.This way people would be able to have
an opinion on feminism.
If this show were to have a particular channel, it would
most probably be on BBCThree at some point during the
day since a lot of fairly young people have a say in the
topic whilst it’s serious enough to come on during the day
rather than at the end where the more comedic programs
come on.
4. Conventions
Interview – I would try to conduct an interview with someone
who sees themselves as a feminist.
Voiceover – For relevant cutaways during an interview or
narration
Cutaways –To be used when a long piece of dialogue is spoken
to avoid the audience getting bored whilst keeping relevance
Direct Address – Used to address the audience directly after a
specific piece of information is given to sum up what has been
said
Astons – Used to give information about someone who may
have entered the scene of give additional side info on a subject
5. Target Audience
The target audience of this documentary would definitely
be young adults aged 18-25 who use the internet a lot. This
is because those who surf the internet a lot of the time
would most likely know about all the upcoming tensions
between genders. For example the whole thing on gaming
journalism.
A secondary audience would be mainly women aged 19-28
because they would ought to know how feminism works
and some of the older audience, since they would be able
to tell the difference in how feminism has changed over
time.
6. Primary Research
I conducted research to see
what people already knew
about the subject, and how
they are as a person. I also tried
to find out their opinions on the
subject.
By the results on the
questionnaire I noticed that
people that used the internet
more were mainly males. I also
found out that those who use
the internet more have a more
negative opinion on modern
day feminists.
7. Secondary Research
During my secondary research I’ve found more information on the
recent happenings around feminism. For example a controversy
concerning feminism and gaming. Also I found that people seem to look
at modern day feminists thinking that they seem to not only want
equality among the sexes, but they also want women to be treated
better than men.
Another piece of research I did into the topic was finding any slang
terms used to describe feminists. One term that commonly comes up
being Feminazi. This word is a derogatory term used to describe radical
feminists that look for superiority over men rather than equality of the
sexes.
Another term that could be potentially used in the documentary is
Social JusticeWarrior.Another derogatory term but the difference is
that it applies to both men and women, implying that both men and
women are trying to fight for the equal treatment of all people.
Although this is still seen as negative because these kinds of people are
still rumored to only get involved for the sake of attention.
This research could prove useful because it gives an idea of what to
expect some of the opinions in the documentary to be like, this also
gives me ideas of what I can talk about in the documentary when
looking into the recent happenings with feminism in the media.
8. Where to film
I could ideally film in an office for an interview with
someone who would be a feminist and I could also film in a
more internet based environment where you would expect
someone who uses the internet more to be in order to
interview them also.
I could also set up a studio type environment for both a
feminist and a male to both have an interview type
discussion on what feminism has become over the years
9. CostTo Make
The equipment that would be in use would be:
Canon EOS SLR Camera x2 £558.00
NewTakstar Stereo Shotgun Microphone x2 £43.90
Trixes 115cmTelescopicVideo camera tripod x2 £15.80
Also one would need to hire another person to help with
the filming – making shots are well placed and also filming
in a different angle where the two cameras are both
needed to film the same segment.
