4. Madagascar Situation!
• The
economic
and
social
situa1on
in
Madagascar
remains
very
worrying
(9
million
poor
people)
and
is
aggravated
by
epidemics,
hurricanes,
the
poli1cal
crisis
that
has
paralyzed
the
economy
while
the
country
is
already
heavily
indebted
• The
educa1on
system
in
Madagascar
is
heavily
affected
by
the
economic
situa1on
and
by
all
natural
disasters
• The
current
budget
for
educa1on
remains
low,
affec1ng
the
school
environment
and
thus
the
quality
of
educa1on.
• This
lack
of
resources
par1cularly
affects
families
in
precarious
situa1ons,
which
oYen
have
difficulty
financing
the
schooling
of
their
children.

7. Our actions!
HEALTH CARE!
WATER SUPPLY!
FOOD!
EDUCATION!
ENERGY SUPPLY!
MadagasiCARE : Non-profit Organization – www.madagasicare.org info@madagasicare.org
8. Watter Supply!
• 4,000
children
under
5
years
old
in
the
world
die
every
day
because
they
don’t
have
safe
drinking
water
• Unsafe
water
and
lack
of
sanita1on
account
for
80
percent
of
diseases,
and
kill
more
people
every
year
than
all
forms
of
violence,
including
war
• Access
to
safe
water
in
schools
increases
a^endance,
academic
achievement
and
children’s
sense
of
dignity
• With
the
access
to
clean
water,
everyone
could
have
a
be^er
chance
to
fight
poverty:
– disease
outbreaks
and
deaths
could
drop
– girls
could
be
more
likely
to
go
to
–
and
stay
in
–
school
– women
could
be
empowered
to
be
seen
as
equals
in
their
homes
and
in
their
community.
• That’s
the
ripple
effect.
MadagasiCARE : Non-profit Organization – www.madagasicare.org info@madagasicare.org
9. Food!
• Drought
is
recurrent
in
the
south
of
Madagascar.
The
last
harvest
was
severely
compromised
by
the
lack
of
rain,
and
consequently,
so
was
the
capacity
of
households
to
feed
their
children.
• By
the
end
of
2008,
almost
400,000
people
were
living
in
food-‐insecure
districts
across
Madagascar.
The
situa1on
has
only
worsened
since.
Up
to
a
quarter-‐million
children
are
now
reportedly
at
risk
of
disease
and
malnutri1on.
• A
recent
nutri1on
survey
supported
by
UNICEF
in
five
districts
shows
that
global
acute
malnutri1on
rates
in
children
under
the
age
of
five
have
reached
serious
levels.
Addi1onal
surveys
are
planned
in
two
addi1onal
drought-‐affected
regions.
• According
to
the
World
Health
Organisa1on
(WHO),
42%
of
Malagasy
children
under
five
are
underfed,
while
acute
malnutri1on
affects
9%
of
young
children.

10. Education!
"A child who does not go to school, it’s a whole people that does not grow”!
Cheikh Anta Diop!
• It
is
necessary
that
young
people
are
able
to
make
the
right
decisions,
taking
into
account
their
health,
their
educa1on,
but
also
their
right.
• Today,
worldwide,
more
than
8/10
children
are
enrolled
in
school.
It
is
a
great
progress
but
we
must
find
a
way
for
all
children
to
a^end
school.
• Did
you
know
that
the
majority
of
children
in
Madagascar
5
to
14
years
old
work
and
a
fiYh
of
adults
can
not
read
or
write?
• It
is
essen1al
to
go
to
school
if
we
want
to
find
a
job
later.
• For
everyone,
knowledge
is
the
most
effec1ve
tool
to
transform
the
world.
