This document describes a smart parking reservation system that allows users to book parking spots via SMS. The system includes an AVR microcontroller, GSM modem, IR sensors, relay circuit, keypad, LCD, and other components. Users send an SMS to reserve a spot. The microcontroller processes the request, checks availability using IR sensors, and replies with a password and slot number. At the parking lot, the password is used at the entrance. The system aims to eliminate wasted time searching for spots and enhance security with password-protected access. It could be implemented in malls, restaurants, and other locations.

2. INTRODUCTION
Currently, most of the existing car parking system are
manually managed and a little inefficient.
In urban areas, where number of vehicles is higher as
compared to the availability of parking spaces, a lot of
time being wasted in searching for parking locations.
Hence Smart parking system is a proposed method that
users can reserve their parking places using SMS.
3. OVERVIEW
A parking reservation system is developed in such a way
that users book their parking slots through short
message services (SMS).
The SMS sent will be processed by microcontroller. It
will reply the confirmation of booking by giving the
details of reservation like password and slot number.
The password will be used to enter the parking area and
valid for a certain period of time.
7. FEATURES
40 pin , 8 bit microcontroller
High performance advanced RISC architecture
32 K Bytes in programmable flash memory
2 K bytes internal SRAM
32 programmable I/O lines
3 timers/counters
8 channel 10bit ADC
8. GSM MODEM
GSM (Global system for mobiles) is a wireless network technology.
This technology is helps to establish digital cellular communication
system. It is used for transmitting mobile voice and data services.
Access using AT commands.
9. IR SENSORS
IR Sensors consists of two parts
IR transmitter
IR receiver
IR sensors used for monitoring and displaying the status
of parking slots in LCD.
10. RELAY CIRCUIT
A relay is a simple electromechanical switch made up
of an electromagnet and a set of contacts.
Relays are switches that open and close circuits
electromechanically.
11. KEYPAD &LCD MODULE
LCD module used for displaying the details of
parking. A 16x2 LCD module and is very commonly
used.
Keypad used for entering the password for the
entrance of parking area.
12. VOLTAGE LEVEL CONVERTER
(MAX 232)
MAX 232 is an dual driver / receiver.
It is used to convert the TTL logic level to
RS232 logic levels during serial communication.
13. OSCILLATOR CIRCUITARY
An Oscillator circuit is used to provide a clock so that
the microcontroller can execute a program.
The function of an oscillator circuit is to provide an
accurate and stable periodic clock signal to the
microcontroller.
14. POWER SUPPLY
Power supply unit provides regulated 5v power.
The power supply circuit consists of a bridge rectifier
which is then passed on to the regulator through a filter
circuit.
16. WORKING
User booking of parking spot through SMS.
GSM modem gets the message and fed to microcontroller
using USART communication.
The AVR microcontroller process the requested message
and check the availability of parking slots using IR sensor.
17. CONTD..
AVR Microcontroller will reply the confirmation of
booking by giving the password and slot number.
The counter for the reservation time will automatically
start for sending message.
The password will be used to enter the parking area.
18. SOFTWARE TOOLS
AVR Studio 5 is Atmel's code development platform
with support for writing and simulating code, as well as
directly programming and debugging target hardware.
PROTEUS Virtual System Modeling (VSM) combines
advanced schematic capture, mixed mode SPICE
simulation, PCB layout and auto routing to make a
complete electronic design system.
19. ADVANTAGES
Ease of maintenance
Very faster communication
No wastage of time
Require less manpower
20. DISADVANTAGES
In places where there is no provision of GSM
networks, it is difficult for communication.
22. CONCLUSION
As conclusion, the objectives of this project have been
achieved. The hassle in searching for available parking
lots has been completely eliminated by reserving the lots
via the SMS system.
The security feature of the system is enhanced with the
password requirements upon entrance to the parking lot.
The designed system could be applied everywhere due to
its ease of usage and effectiveness.
