1. Mobile Linac
The mobile linear accelerator (Linac), which enables the intra-operative electron-beam-
radiation-therapy, the so-called IOERT method, can be moved with a weight of 450 –
850 kg within the hospital without problems.
The global market for these movable Linacs is currently dominated by three firms, two from
Italy and one from US.
While both Italian systems “Liac” and “Novac” are similar and have been developed based
upon the same initial idea, the US-system “Mobetron” is very different. In the US the
development has been parallel to the development in Italy. All systems came to market
from 1998 to 1999.
The capital investment for these linear accelerators is currently between 900,000 €
and 1,000,000 €.
The price differences are based on different modules/options which influence the system
configuration.
