infections in the lab and reduce them if
they occur.
• Prevent potentially harmful microbes from
leaving the lab.

• If you spill a chemical on
your skin, immediately
wash the affected area.
If a chemical or a culture
gets into your eye,
immediately wash your
eye for 5 min.

• If anything containing viable bacteria
spills, cover the spell or broken glass with
a paper towel and a generous amount of
disinfectant to remain on the slip for at
least 20 min. before cleaning it up.

• Sweep up pieces of broken glass (after
disinfection if necessary) and place them
in the specified container.

locker when you have finished with them.
