4. What Does the Regional Economy Look Like? Service jobs drive the regional economy. Similar to national trends, manufacturing no longer dominates the labor market. The Nonprofit sector is a significant employment base in the region. 4 Service Providing Jobs (2/3 of local jobs) Goods Producing Jobs (1/3 of local jobs)

5. What Does the Regional Economy Look Like? The region gained almost 70,000 new jobs between 2005 and 2010; 80% of those were in these top 5 clusters The region lost over 32,000 existing jobs between 2005 and 2010; 90% of those were in these top 5 clusters. 5/10/2011 5

19. Are the Employment Dynamics Different in the Nonprofit Sector? The Nonprofit Sector has an OLDER workforce than the overall regional labor market: 70% of the sector’s workers are over 35 while in the overall market only 67% of workers are over 35. The biggest gap is in the 55-64 cohort: the NS share is 3% higher than average. 9 5/10/2011

20. Are the Employment Dynamics Different in the Nonprofit Sector? Younger workers in the Nonprofit Sector are less stable than their counterparts in other industries. The 25-34 cohort, on the other hand, churns less often in the Nonprofit Sector than in other industries. 10 5/10/2011

21. Are the Employment Dynamics Different in the Nonprofit Sector? The Nonprofit Sector was less affected by the economic downturn and managed (in the overall context) not to lose jobs for any of the younger age cohorts. The job loss in the two oldest cohorts was less severe than in other sectors. 11 5/10/2011
