Integrating Technology in to the Curriculum Teachers
For technology to be effective in today's education system, it needs to be intelligently integrated into Grades
a rich, meaning-centered curriculum. Accomplishing this goal requires designing new kinds of K-5
creative learning environments involving the collaboration of all stakeholders. Effective integration 6-8
of technology is achieved when students are able to select the necessary technology tools, analyze
and synthesize the information, and present it. As we prepare our students with those 21st Century
skills, we need to connect today’s technology into our curriculums for greater motivation and
achievement. Cost $85.00
November 18, 2011 for 6-8 educators and February 9, 2012 K-5 educators
Literacy Foundations Teachers
The Common Core Literacy Foundation standards are directed toward fostering students’ Grades
understanding and working knowledge of concepts of print, the alphabetic principle, and other basic 4-5
conventions of the English writing system. These foundational skills are not an end in and of
themselves; rather, they are necessary and important components of an effective, comprehensive
reading program designed to develop proficient readers with the capacity to comprehend texts across
a range of types and disciplines (Standards are in Phonics, Word Recognition and Fluency). This
session will focus on these standards and the instructional strategies that will help teachers create the
reading program that will develop proficient independent readers. Cost $85.00
October 24, 2011 for 3-5 educators and March 7, 2012 for K-2 educators
Inquiry-based Learning Teachers
Inquiry is a study into a worthy question, issue, problem or idea. Inquiry-based learning involves Grades
engagement, investigation and the active creation and testing of new knowledge. The inquiry study K-5
begins with an issue, problem, question, exploration or topic that provides opportunities to create or 6-8
produce something that contributes to the world’s knowledge. The inquiry study encourages students
to develop habits that encourage them to ask questions about:
• Evidence (How do we know what we know?)
• Viewpoint (Who is speaking?)
• Pattern and connection (What causes what?)
• Supposition (How might things have been different?)
• Why it matters (Who cares?)
The study requires students to address a semi-structured question, issue or problem, relevant to your
curriculum, but based on the life and work beyond the school. On-going assessment is woven into the
design of the inquiry study providing timely descriptive feedback and utilizes a variety of methods.
Assessments should guide student learning and teacher’s instructional planning. Cost $85.00
October 19, 2011 for 6-8 educators and March 14, 2011 for K-5 educators
