At www.greaterdandenong.com go to Library then Library Services
Find link online databases – click onto link
Scroll down and select required database – World Book Online
Type library card number - Note you must type capital A followed by the numbers eg. A1234567
Basic Search
To Begin your search type keywords in the search box at the top of the screen and then click Enter.
Basic Search will search for articles, dictionary definitions, maps, pictures and more. Will also search for
different tenses and plurals of the term, for example a search for Australian will also search for Australians.
Advanced Search
Advanced search allows you to refine your search. You can combine terms or limit by various criteria.
Search for Words or a Phrases
Select the option you would like to search by
• Search for a phrase Finds content where your keywords appear exactly in order.
• Search for all of these words Finds content containing all your keywords, regardless of what
order they appear.
• Search for any of these words Finds content containing one or more of your Keywords
• Search for a date Looks for content containing the date you specify.

2. Boolean Search
Combine terms with Boolean operators.
You can use special terms, called Boolean operators, to combine search terms. This can be useful when
you want to find, for example
• ‘Pyramids AND Egypt’ Finds documents mentioning both Pyramids and Egypt.
• ‘Pyramids OR Egypt’ Finds documents mentioning Pyramids, as well as documents
mentioning Egypt, or both
• ‘Pyramids NOT Egypt’ Finds documents mentioning Pyramids but not mentioning Egypt.
Reading, Emailing & Printing
To View an article click on the title of the article you wish to view.
To print the article you are currently reading, click Print Full Article. The article view changes to one
optimized for printing and then click print again
To e-mail the article you are currently reading, click E-mail Article. Fill in your email address and then
click send.
