Program Overview
In January and February 2014 Gatepoint Research invited selected executives
from the retail, utilities, financial, and healthcare industries to participate in a
survey themed Application-Driven Network Performance Strategies.
Candidates were invited via email and 200 executives have participated to
date.
Survey participants were senior technical operations and IT decision makers.
90% were network engineers and managers. The balance were Directors,
VPs, and CxOs.

represented by survey participants, 78% had annual revenues of greater than
$1.5 billion.
100% of responders participated voluntarily; none were engaged using
telemarketing.

Observations and Conclusions
Almost two-thirds of responders (62%) reported that their top
priority in network management is solving network and application
performance problems.
69% experience challenges with sufficient visibility into application
response time.
Most responders rate their network performance management
capabilities as merely “adequate” in all areas. Of particular concern is
the ability to perform automated investigations into performance
issues, on schedule or on demand - 37% rate their current capability
in this area as inadequate.
Responders are looking to maximize use of existing infrastructure
assets (65%) and optimize application performance (56%).
When asked about their buying intentions, 65% report that they are
likely to invest in products that will enhance applications and
response time analysis; 64% would invest in network traffic flow
analysis
