2. COMMISSIONING PROCESS
TV or Film companies may hire someone to organise or help out in the production.
For example if someone needed help with the script the person they hired would
improve the script in order to help the film or TV programme.
3. ROLES INVOLVED IN THE
COMMISSIONING PROCESS
Commissioning Editor - usually identifies books and media products to publish.
Executive Producer - responsible for the overall quality control and success of TV productions.
Producer - are responsible for all aspects of the films production. Putting together a collection of talented cast and
crew and turning story ideas into profitable films.
Director - the driving force to a films production – visuals and defining style and structure of the film, the bringing it
to life.
Editorial Assistant - provide support at all stages of the publication projects for books, magazines and online
newsletters.
Researcher -originate and develop programme ideas and present their findings to decision makers.
Script Editor - ensure their film and TV dramas that are shot out of script sequence are successful and make sense.
Literary Agent - is an agent who represents writers and their written work and also assists in deal making and
negotiation sales.
Writer - Writers produce works of fiction and non- fiction, poetry scripts for radio, TV or Film, non- fiction books,
newspaper Articles and Website content.
4. COMMISSIONING BODIES
Examples of commissioning bodies:
Corporations such as the BBC.
Independent production companies e.g. Bedlam Productions Ltd.
Independent directors and producers e.g. J Blakeson.
Organizations such as the independent cinema office
Competitions e.g. The Sunday Times: First Light.
5. ROLE OF A WRITER
Writer- Writers produce works of fiction and non- fiction, poetry scripts for
radio, TV or Film, non- fiction books, newspaper Articles and Website
content.
During pre-production the writer will break down the script into individual
scenes and he/she will identify locations, props, cast members, costumes
and special effects.
Take into consideration the target audience and make a judgement of the
certificate.
The writer will draw up a preliminary plan of the script (draft).
To write or improve the script again (rewrite).
The writer will finalise the script, which is called a page lockdown.
6. BECOMING A WRITER
An agent aids the writer in distributing their work and represents the writer’s

their clients.

their work.

CONSIDERATIONS

musical material.
Censorship - The removal of speech that is deemed obscene, indecent, or
controversial to younger audiences.
Watershed - Watersheds are the time (9pm) that adult content is allowed to be
broadcasted on T.V.
Plagiarism - Writers taking credit for other peoples work by passing it off as
their own.
