  12. Office 2013 has a number of killer features that I am excited to tell you more about.
  13. First off let’s start with the new Office experience. With every major release of Office, the goal is to make it more usable, more enjoyable and delightful.  [Initial view] The new Outlook feels dramatically more modern, fluid and polished than the version you use today, all that while retaining the familiar layout and tools. The performance of the new UI is stunningly smooth and responsive.  To give maximum space to your inbox, the Ribbon is now minimized by default, but is just a click-away. A new Touch Mode adds a little more space around buttons an icons, so you can tap them more easily in a touch-enabled screen. It also adds a set of Quick Action icons on the right border, for easy access with your right hand fingers.  The Navigation Bar has also been improved to take less space. And now when you hover on calendar or people … [Build]You get a Quick Peek into your calendar, people or tasks without ever leaving your inbox. You can check upcoming appointments, search for someone, while staying in the context of the email you’re reading or composing. Another great new feature, that helps you stay on task, is the Inline reply thatlets you compose while staying in context. In summary, the new Office experience was designed to help you stay focused on the task at hand, whether is writing a document, building a presentation, creating a spreadsheet or composing an email.
  14. The new Office allows you to take full advantage of the touch-optimized, immersive Windows 8 experience. The modern look and smooth experience of the new Office seems alive and makes work more enjoyable with touch-enabled Windows 8 devices. The new Presenter View in the new PowerPoint running on a Windows 8 tablet – this is like your new cockpit while presenting. Here you can use your fingertips to pinch & zoom into a particular slide or navigate back & forth through your presentation. You can use a stylus to make annotations on the slide, highlight text or use it as a ‘laser pointer’ during your presentation. This new Presenter View gives you a fully immersive ‘control panel’ to make more impactful and enjoyable presentations.  The new Office works great with not only with touch, but also with pen and as you can expect, mouse and keyboard.

To capitalize on the great touch and pen experience, OneNote has been reimagined for Windows 8. You have a fully immersive, touch-enabled experience with gestures and contextual controls instead of the traditional menu-based navigation. The Radial Menu is a great example of the innovation happening with Windows 8. Radial Menus are context aware menus at your fingertips. If you select a portion of text, the ‘Font’ radial menu will be initially enabled next to the text. When you tap on it, it expands with a dial of options, choose font and the dial gets updated with relevant options, touch font size and get a ‘speed dial’ to quickly choose your font size. Radial Menus, brings commands to your fingertips and helps you stay on task. The OneNote Windows 8 app also takes full advantage of all your device capabilities. Right from the radial menu you can select the integrated camera in your tablet and capture a whiteboard, or any images that will enrich your notes.

  19. The new PDF Reflowfeature in Word allows you to open a PDF file directly from Word. Word now makes PDF content act like familiar Word documents. Use content from PDFs easily and make it look great.
  20. Office 2013 tries to make Excel more efficient and easier to use. New features such as Excel Flash fill leverage Excel’s ability to recognize patterns and autocomplete cells without any formulas or macros.
  21. Recommended charts allow you to easily visualize and analyze your data. Excel reviews the selected data and recommends the best chart based on patterns in your data. You can quickly look at different charts to find the one that best fits your data. With Recommended charts and quick peeks, you can quickly and effortlessly format your data.
  22. Power View in Excel allows you to discover new insights at the speed of thought with highly interactive, familiar data exploration, visualization, and presentation for all levels of skills. Power View lets you compile data, charts, and graphs into a single view to bring your data to life.The new features in Excel enable you to work smarter.
  23. The new SharePoint features a number of new social networking capabilities that allow your employees to stay connected and productive.  Here you can see the SharePoint Newsfeed, which enables you to speak your mind, share ideas and get answers in real time. You get hashtags (#), ‘likes’ and the ability to mention people (@) in a post. You can follow people, document & sites, so you always know what is going on with your colleagues and projects. You can even create an Outlook task, right from your Newsfeed, so you can effectively track an action item. * These new social features enable you to get things done.*Requires SharePoint and Lync Server connection or SharePoint Online and Lync Online connection

Social is more than newsfeeds and likes, social is about empowering people to communicate and collaborate more effectively.  With the new Office you get pervasive social feeds and click-to-communicate capabilities. These is enabled by the people-card that pops whenever you hover over a contact’s name. [Initial screen]In this example we have a Word document with comments. The new Word supports threaded comments, which is a great improvement to collaborating with documents. Each comment has an author, and as you can notice, rich presence is associated to a name, so in real time, you know the availability of that contact and can decide how to interact. Just by hovering on the presence status you get the pervasive people-card.  [Build]The people-card aggregates enterprise information like email & calendar history, with social networking feeds like Facebook & LinkedIn in a single place, so you get a unified view of people. Here you can see under “What’s new” the Facebook updates for this contact. But the people card is also a single launch point for all communication & collaboration modalities available in Office: like schedule a meeting, send an email, start an IM, start a voice & video call.
  25. It is not uncommon for business to spend a lot of time interacting with each other on meetings. With a potentially dispersed work or client base, dealing with remote meetings can be a challenging experience.  The new Lync gives you a great meeting experience with multiparty HD video conferencing, real-time note taking, and document sharing capabilities. Here is a great example of the new Lync meeting experience. At the top you can see the new Lync Video Gallery, which makes meetings more interactive, by displaying a continuous view of multiple HD video streams in a gallery format. The gallery shows the most relevant people in the meeting at all times by bringing the dominant speaker “in focus”.  Lync supports real time document sharing, so at any time people can share a PowerPoint, Excel, Word document or anything on their desktop.  A very common situation during a meeting is note taking. To enable a better meeting experience, the new Office now allows meeting participants to simultaneously, and in real-time, work on a single meeting document using a shared OneNote. This improves collaboration and reduces errors caused by later transcription and simplifying communication and follow up. *Requires Lync Server 2013 orLync Online connection
