On November 20, 2013 parents in Santa Clara County gathered to discuss the importance of Arts Education for their students. Officials from Santa Clara County Office of Education presented information on Common Core State Standards integration with the Arts, the STEAM initiative, and funding and affordable Arts programs for schools.

Bottom line: Although most district are supportive of the arts in theory, in practice the arts would not exist in most districts without the direct funding or staffing of parent groups.21% of districts have a sequential, standards-based arts policy (down 25%) 7% have F/T, 26% have P/T coordinators 75% rely on PTA/Education Foundation support 71% provide professional development 83% did NOT plan to reduce arts funding for 2011/12Source: Jan 2012 Artspiration annual report (185 people involved, 3 focus teams)
