3. EMPLOYMENT – PROFESSIONAL
Company – AGL has established itself as one of Australia’s largest retail and
operational energy businesses in Australia.
In 2014, AGL took on its largest expansion into the energy sector with the purchase
of Loy Yang Power; Victoria’s largest electricity generator and open cut coal
mine. Then in 2014, AGL further enhanced its electricity generation capacity by
purchasing Macquarie Generation in the Hunter Valley.
Over this period AGL transitioned from a very mature retail business into one of
Australia’s largest electricity generation business with very little management
capability to manage an industrial workforce within power generation and
mining.
Being a part of the former Loy Yang Power management team, I was heavily
involved in the transition to AGL ownership and appointed to the lead People
and Culture business partner role during the initial two years of the transition.
Due to my knowledge of the local power industry and site industrial experience
I then transitioned into the Employee Relations role on site to assist AGL
Corporate in preparation for Enterprise Bargaining negotiations set for
commencement in 2015.

Duties: Reporting to the Group Head, Employee Relations, AGL Corporate
• Actively participate in development and implementation of the AGL industrial
relations strategy for enterprise bargaining negotiations.
• Assist in the preparation and facilitation of employee relations activities;
including dispute resolution and representation through Fair Work
Commission conciliation conferences.
• Maintain professional relationships with key maintenance contractor
organisations to ensure minimum industrial disruption while on site.
Key Achievements;
• Key site leadership role in the transition of Loy Yang Power to AGL Energy.
• Heavily involved with a small professional team to successfully complete the
2008 and 2012 Enterprise Agreements.
• Human Resource Manager through a period to transition from an analogue to
digital power station control system. Total project cost of $50M over an eight
year period.

new programs and integrating Loy Yang Power into the AGL Energy

with the upgrade of the power station control system.

The Loy Yang Power assets were valued at $3 billion and has an annual revenue
base in excess of $650M; with over 550 people employed directly and in excess of
220 contractors also employed on site.

• Working as part of power station leadership team to develop and assist implement
workplace strategies designed to ensure the power station met or exceeded its
annual business targets.
• Provide specialist Human Resource/Employee Relations advice on strategic
initiatives and negotiations associated with dispute resolution and enterprise
bargaining.
• Provide site based leadership on the Loy Yang Power Safety Management
System.
• Manage the legal and regulatory compliance associated with major workplace
employee policies and complex rehabilitation programs.

• Negotiated the initial Alcohol and other Drugs Policy within the Latrobe Valley
