Information technology in education.
1. Information technolgy as a
term:
“The study or use of systems
(especially computers and
telecommunications) for
storing, retrieving, and sending
information.”
Information tech in education:
Educational technology is "the
study and ethical practice of
facilitating learning and
improving performance by
creating, using, and managing
appropriate technological
processes and
resources". Educational
technology is the use of both
physical hardware
and educational theoretics.
2. The purpose of technology in education:
.. With increasing knowledge and technological progress
of society; our country requires learning skills that could
help it keep pace with the development of science and
technology. Educational systems in a community and
consequently education will not be able to separate from
other social institutions, national and international
interactions widely known in the global village. Education
in the twenty-first century is the center from which all
changes and developments arise. Information technology
in education needs a culture. This culture needs to be
learned along with the use of hardware resources. The
system needs to be educated to use information
technology; otherwise, purchase and transfer of
technology and investment will be nothing but wasting
resources. Although these technologies are not impartial
in any sense they should be used as means for
communicating information, in the existing social
structures. However since the process of change and
transformation is in the nature of human social
institutions, the educational system is also prone to some
alterations. But the fundamental problem is that what
strategies should be adopted so that education systems in
developing countries do not only follow developed
countries but grow and progress base on their own needs
in the path of progress. In this paper, after explanation
about the role of information technology and its place in
education in underdeveloped countries and Iran, a
discussion is presented on how to enter the field of
information society and how to use information
technologies.
3. The evolution of technology has
brought about with it, several
benefits the world over. Apart
from enhancing efficiency, it has
turned the world into a global
village and made access to
information quite easy. The
education sector has also not
been left behind in tapping into
the deep resource-well of
technology. The use of
information technology in
education has become more
than just an option. For effective
learning, the education sector
stakeholders have found ways of
integrating the use of
information technology in the
everyday learning processes.
4. The uses of information
technology:
1) Access to learning material
The internet is full of a lot of learning material
that the learner can access and use to
supplement whatever is provided for in the
classroom. There are e-books, revision guides
and past examination papers that are available
on the world wide web and students can take
advantage of these to improve their knowledge
base. Learning institutions provide computers
and internet that the students can use to this
end.
2)Continuous learning
In the modern world, you don’t have to be in the
classroom to learn. Using information
technology in education has made it possible for
students to keep on learning, irrespective of
where they are. Teachers and professors can
send assignments to students and they can
complete and submit them even without
physically stepping into the classrooms and so
learning never has to stop. Students can keep on
learning even when they are at home. This has
greatly enhanced efficiency in the education
sector.
5. 3) Sharing of knowledge
Through online discussion forums, students can
share knowledge, engage in intellectual debates
and generally learn from one another. Using
information technology in education has
basically made it possible for students from all
over the world to come together and share
experiences, the geographical distances
notwithstanding. Information technology in
education has also made students to develop
an appreciation for cultural diversity and in
turn, create a more tolerant and unified world.
4) Using audio and visual material as learning aids
The use of information technology in education
has made it possible for tutors to teach
students much more easily. By using audio and
visual materials, students can develop a better
understanding of the topics being taught. It is
now much easier to perform demonstrations
and put some practical aspect to the theory
taught in class. Slow learners therefore have an
opportunity to catch up with those who had
grasped whatever was initially taught in class.
6. 5) Distance learning:
To adapt to a changing population with
unique demands, learning institutions
have employed the use of information
technology in education to cater for
this new demographic. Online courses
have enabled most of the employed
and young population to go back to
class and get second degrees or
additional certifications. It is possible to
attend a college overseas without even
getting out of your home country and
at your own convenience.
6)Proper record keeping:
It is possible to keep student records in
a more systematic and secure manner
using technology. Unlike in the past
when records used to be kept manually
and there were many cases of lost files,
the incorporation of information
technology in education has made it
possible for safe and proper record
keeping. Retrieving of information has
therefore become much easier.
7. As far as the tools used for
information technology are:
Computers or laptops:
Computers and laptops use programs that
are needed for school education such
as:
1) Inkscape An Open Source vector
graphics editor.
2) PiktochartPiktochart- Make
Information Beautiful. Create
infographics. Engaging presentation
app.
3) Text2speechFree online text to
speech converter.
4) Wikipedia:We can find information
about different topics.
5) Prezi:You can make project.
6)Slideshare:You can share your
knowledge and prpject with
others.
7) Learn Fizz:Find, organize and share
the best free learning on the web.
8)Phet:You can see stimulation
for teaching topics, including physics,
chemistry, biology, and math, from
University of Colorado Boulder.
9)Read.any.book.com:You can read book
online.
8. Smart board:
• Digital screen allows images from the
computer to be displayed
• Can be modify on the screen using a
pen/highlighting tool
• Touch screen feature
which allows teacher to run programs
directly from the screen and get saved
automatically.
YouTube
• Video clips
• Helpful for visual/auditory learners for
teachers and students
• Work at their own pace- pause, play &repeat
• Help explore careers
• Students spend hours at home watching
television so, educator can take advantage of
exposing them to educational videos on
YouTube.
Teachers uses technology in
class mostly for:
• Research
• Online assement test
• Smart boards
• Elmo visual presenter
• Power point’s
• Computers:Create lessons
plan.
• Exel:take attendance/keep
test records.
9. Present:
• technology as a transformational tool and
integral part of the learning environment (not
just a supplement)
• As software gained in sophistication, the
computer became the tutor or surrogate
teacher (Students followed the commands on
the computer screen receiving rewards for
correct answers)
• Students began to learn through playing games
and simple simulations.
-
• Using databases, spreadsheets, presentation,
and research tools across all subject areas.
-
• Online courses were available and students in
all parts of the country had expanded learning
opportunities in a variety of subject areas.
-
• As delivery modes for distance education. Learn
from others from ourside of classrooms
• "Educators can use computers as vehicles both
to support new and different
interaction among students and teachers in the
target language and to create
opportunities for students to converse with
native speakers and others outside of
the classroom and the university."
Future:
• We don’t know how we will develop the use of
the technology. However, the article mentions
that “as educators and researchers look to the
future they are no longer asking the question,
“Should technology be used in education?”
Instead the focus is “How should technology be
used to help students achieve higher levels?”
What we know is that technologies are serving
at least four distinct purposes in education:
• technologies are used as previously to teach,
drill and practice using increasingly
sophisticated digital content
• technologies are used to provide simulations
and real world experiences to develop cognitive
thinking and to extend learning
• technologies are used to provide access to a
wealth of information and enhanced
communications through the internet and other
related information technologies
• technologies are used as productivity tools
employing application software such as
spreadsheets, data bases, and word processors,
to manage information, to solve problems and
to produce sophisticated products.
10. Pros and cons essay:Information technology in education
We are surrounded by technology every day. I think the use of technology is very much needed
for us, because it facilitates the work but there are also some disadvantages that make it less
preferred by the teachers. There are a number of benefits to using technology for receive or
distribute information in school premises.
To begin with, using technology in the classroom is the ability to customize student learning to meet the
needs of all students. As you may know, every student learns differently, and using technology gives
teachers the ability. to adapt their lesson plans to suit each individual student’s needs. There are
countless computer programs and apps on the market that are available to track students’ progress and
figure out how each student learns best. This means that technology has the capability to determine if a
student can progress in a subject or if they need more help. With 20 or more students at a time to think
about, it’s quite difficult for teachers to be able to differentiate learning for all of their students at the
same time. However, when using technology, teachers can easily meet the needs of all learners with just
a simple tap of their finger or a click of a button. As a result students will have a greater concentration in
the classroom.
On the other hand ,the use of technology has its drawbacks. For one thing, Those who are against the use of
technology in the classroom say excessive use can promote antisocial situations. These individuals are
afraid that students will lose their ability to communicate in a social situation because of their constant
use of technology. In addition students need interpersonal skills, and when you give them technological
devices in school. This can limit the time they get to spend interacting with their peers therefore
condoning antisocial behavior.
To sum up, I believe that to benefit from technology we should use it in the right manner and time
