Read the following passage about the
autumn foliage and discuss about it.
In autumn we enjoy the fall colors tremendously. The mix of ref, purple, orange and
yellow result mainly from the chemical processes that usually take place as the
seasons change. The leaves work continuously during the summer and spring as
factories for the nutrients that feed and grow the trees. The leaf badly needs
chlorophyll to produce these foods and that is what gives the leaf its green colour.
This chemical normally absorbs energy from sunlight and gradually transforms the
carbon dioxide and water in carbohydrates. But in the fall, because of the changes
in the length of the sunlight and changes in temperature, the leaves inevitably stop
the food-making process, the chlorophyll slowly breaks down and the green color
suddenly disappears, leaving room for the yellow and orange colors which
ultimately give us the fall splendor.
