  3. 3. Born on February 9, 1944…..in Eatonton, Georgia. Alice Walker is the daughter of Willie Lee Walker and Minnie Tallulah Grant Walker.<br />Alice is youngest of eight kids.<br />
  4. 4. Growing in to the young lady she is today<br />~ Alice grew up around a violent racist environment.<br />~She also grew up in poverty.<br />
  5. 5. The Accident<br />Alice was shot in the eye by her brother bb gun .<br />Alice family didn’t have a car to get her to a doctor so she couldn’t get treated and she went blind in her right eye.<br />
  6. 6. In High School<br /><ul><li>She became valedictorian
  7. 7. She was voted most popular
  8. 8. She was also Queen of her class</li></li></ul><li>College experience<br /><ul><li>She attended Spellman College where she met Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
  9. 9. She transferred to Sarah Lawrence college near New York City
  10. 10. She helped volunteered to help voters in Georgia and Mississippi
  11. 11. She sadly suffered depression and also had suicidal thoughts after getting pregnant as a senior in college
  12. 12. After sleeping with a razor under her pillow she got an abortion
  13. 13. After recovering from the abortion she wrote a short story titled “To Hell with Dying”</li></li></ul><li>Married Life<br />She married Mel Leventhal – a Jewish civil right lawyer.<br />They moved back to Mississippi and they was also the first inter-racial couple in the south. They ha d to deal with violence and threats from the Ku Klux Klan which led her to write “The Civil Right Movement: What Good was It?”<br />
  14. 14. Giving birth<br />She gave birth to her Daughter Rebecca Grant. In the same week her daughter was born “The Third Life of Grange Copeland” was published.Her published her book “You Can’t Keep A Good Woman Down”. And shortky after her and husband got a divorce.<br />
  15. 15. The Color Purple<br />Alice published her best know work novel “The Color Purple” in 1982. The story was about a young girl fighting her way through racist white culture and black culture as well.<br />
  16. 16. Later Alice Walker work was being accused of being self-indulgent and rapid.<br />Alice used her writing as an openness to exposing her personal experience. <br />
  17. 17. Her Now <br /><ul><li>On March 8, 2003 Alice Walker and 26 other people was arrested for crossing a police line during an anti-war rally outside the white house.
  18. 18. She is an active organizations code pink and women peace.
  19. 19. Alice had wrote an “Open Letter To Barack” that was published on theroot.com in 2008.
  20. 20. She is now a successful writer.
