Born on February 9, 1944…..in Eatonton, Georgia. Alice Walker is the daughter of Willie Lee Walker and Minnie Tallulah Grant Walker.<br />Alice is youngest of eight kids.<br />

Growing in to the young lady she is today<br />~ Alice grew up around a violent racist environment.<br />~She also grew up in poverty.<br />

The Accident<br />Alice was shot in the eye by her brother bb gun .<br />Alice family didn’t have a car to get her to a doctor so she couldn’t get treated and she went blind in her right eye.<br />

After recovering from the abortion she wrote a short story titled “To Hell with Dying”</li></li></ul><li>Married Life<br />She married Mel Leventhal – a Jewish civil right lawyer.<br />They moved back to Mississippi and they was also the first inter-racial couple in the south. They ha d to deal with violence and threats from the Ku Klux Klan which led her to write “The Civil Right Movement: What Good was It?”<br />

Giving birth<br />She gave birth to her Daughter Rebecca Grant. In the same week her daughter was born “The Third Life of Grange Copeland” was published.Her published her book “You Can’t Keep A Good Woman Down”. And shortky after her and husband got a divorce.<br />

The Color Purple<br />Alice published her best know work novel “The Color Purple” in 1982. The story was about a young girl fighting her way through racist white culture and black culture as well.<br />

Later Alice Walker work was being accused of being self-indulgent and rapid.<br />Alice used her writing as an openness to exposing her personal experience. <br />
