Introduction- As part of your essential skills, you are learning to interpret and analyze
abnormal data. For this scenario, you will be provided by chart and video: 1. Demographic
data: Patient’s age and Date of Birth, Gender, Ethnicity and Past Medical History 2.
Symptom being analyzed(COLDSPA) per video. 3. The client’s medical diagnosis 4. Pertinent
lab work or diagnostic tests. 5. Assessment findings (subjective and objective assessment).
Performance Objective: a. Collect and analyze data regarding a symptom to obtain a history
of present illness (symptom analysis) using the COLDSPA mnemonic. b. Analyze clinical
assessment and diagnostic findings. c. Answer questions in canvas to scenario and chapter
content d. Identify priority lab/ diagnostic data and priority nursing diagnosis for patient
symptom e. Submit completed documentation and reflection then upload both for
completion. f. Must be typed word or pdf doc and completed per rubric 1. Review patient
chart Case Scenario- Jones, C student chart 1221 (See upload doc at 5.04pm). 1B. Cardiac

was getting better or worse? 5. Q4 (2 or more) lab or diagnostic tests/ abnormal for this
patient? 6. Q5 assessment findings common with each abnormal lab values? ( to Q4) 7. Q6
Name 2 nursing diagnosis, identify the priority diagnosis. Why do you think you chose that
diagnosis? 8. Q7 Possible interventions for this patient? (Name 2) 9. Q8 Possible
medications to priority diagnosis? Name, indications, effects (list 2) 10. Q9 Anything you
would have liked to know or would have done differently? Why? (2 sentences or greater)
11. Professional writing- avoid slang, spelling, grammar- 1 pt per issue (Max 5)
