- Good Afternoon Board of Directors, Thank You for your time this afternoon. My name is Wanda Stevenson-Randolph a teacher at DeRenne Middle School. I would like to propose to you the idea to adopt Blended Learning at my school for the 2013-2014 school year.
- Our students are saying," We are ready to experience a new way to LEARN?
- I proposal to you, this evening Blended Learning at DeRenne Middle School where our Mission is “To ignite a passion for learning and teaching at high levels.”
- Recognizing the need for Blended Learning: Our students at DeRenne Middle interact with technology everyday at school and away from school. It makes sense to use this same type technology to teach our students how to use media they are already using.
- Why is there a NEED for Blended Learning in this organization? To increase the reading level of each student.To personalize learning, improved productivity and enhance the motivation for each student. To help each student master the content and skills they need. To support teachers to get the most out of their planning and face to face teaching time.
- Why do we need Blended Learning? Our students at DeRenne need more engaging ways to learn such as the use of tools like Edmodo, Google in Education apps and Web 2.0 to promote collaboration. We need to help each student master the content and skills they need to improve learning
- What is Blended Learning? Blended learning is a disruptive innovation in education that can take many forms. The rotation model ( station, lab, individual, or flipped classroom. The flex model, The self-blend model or The enriched virtual model. According to the Knewton website Blended Learning is a integration of instructional media. It includes the traditional classroom or a distance learning environment. It can also include any combination of media that can help support classroom instruction. For example: Blogs, e-Portfolios, voice thread, Wiki’s, web 2.0 tools, slide share & Google Docs. ( click the link)
- From creating, evaluating, analyzing, applying, understanding to remembering. Blended Learning is where face to face classroom time is replaced by computer assisted instruction activities. The Chinese Proverb says” I hear and I forgot. I see and I remember. I do and I understand”.
- During the development process some concerns are: Learning new technology to use with blended learning.Expecting students and teachers to adapt to blended learning.Finding enough resources to use. Obtaining support from all stakeholders.
- According to skribble.org and classrack.com the most effective marketing strategy for Blended Learning is by example. THINK of Blended Learning as: How Learning is DELIVERED, Teachers as the (sender), Students as the (receiver).
- In 1992 the need for Blended Learning emerged from E-learning which originated with the launch of the World Wide Web by British inventor, Tim Berners-Lee. In 1997 the first research article in internet-based training appeared. In 2000’s the development of Blended Learning is particularly effective in its ability to make possible a community of inquiry in schools. The commercialization in the future for Blended Learning will continue to grow quickly. The Department of over Education plans to spend over $30 million dollars in the future to bring blended learning to schools around the country.

- Blended Learning was introduced more than a decade ago. It is time to move ahead with new data and predictions related to blended learning.
- Innovators and Early Adopters are Teachers-Team Leaders-Technology Teachers, Administrators, Media Specialists, Parents, Board Members, Student. Strategies to Encourage Adoption: Provide staff members support for blended learning to increase performance. Provide practical and creative ways to utilize blended learning in the classroom. Provide teachers with the needed support for new ideas, problems or questions.
- How to help the rate of adoption: Locate and help the laggards. Laggards: Teachers close to retirement, teachers who began teaching later in life, older veterans. Strategies to Encourage Adoption of Blended Learning: Provide one on one and small group training for everyone. Follow up with support 24/7.

(Why) Innovators of Blended Learning can be trained to spread the knowledge faster within the school. (Who) Teachers who are knowledgeable about technology and are eager to learn the different ways to implement technology in the classroom. Administrators at the school level can assist in choosing the best change agent for each team.
- Role of Change Agent: Persuading other teachers that Blended Learning would make their job easier. Provide support for early adopters so they can support late adopters of Blended Learning. Provide support with any problems or questions that may arise in the early stages of adoption.
