3. Erupting Volcanic Activity The Galapagos Islands formed millions of years ago by volcanoes that erupted. The lava floated and soon finally hardened that turned into islands. They are still forming today. The last volcanic eruption was about 11 years ago. Two of them erupted at the same time.
