SAN FRANCISCO CITY HALL is proudly referred to as the “Crown Jewel”
of the city. As long ago as 1915 when this City Hall opened, Mayor James Rolph Jr.
proclaimed,“I take pride in this building because it typifies the spirit of San Francisco.Three
times she has been destroyed by fire, and each time she has risen more magnificently.”
On January 5, 1999, this French Renaissance-style Beaux Arts landmark once again rose like
the mythical phoenix. Over 15 years after the Loma Prieta earthquake shook the foundation
and cracked the walls, the beautiful dome now soars 306 feet above the ground with its
lovingly restored 24-carat gleaming gold for the entire city to enjoy.
One of the goals in restoring City Hall was to make it accessible to the people of San
Francisco.To this end, the doors of City Hall have been opened to the public for their special
events and occasions. Inside you will find a magnificent space to hold any type of event—from
simple wedding ceremonies to grand balls. We invite you to come and visit the beautifully
restored City Hall and see how it can accommodate all your event needs.

Rotunda
THE ROTUNDA offers a breathtaking marble
staircase that is the focal point of any event. It has been
restored to its original magnificence, allowing your event to be
configured in a variety of ways. The landings on the Grand
Staircase make natural “stages” for musicians, speakers, or
brides. The balconies on the second level surround the
Rotunda and allow your guests to dine or survey the events
below. Ornate carvings and the interior of the spectacular
dome can be seen from every angle. At night, the Rotunda is
awash with soft white lighting that accents the architectural
carvings throughout the space.

THE SOUTH LIGHT COURT is similar to the North, the difference being that it houses art exhibits for your guests to enjoy.
This room is ideal for cocktail receptions or press events, and again can be incorporated into a Rotunda event. Luncheons or sit-down functions
are also possible.The room has a more intimate feel with the exhibits, and works very well for smaller groups.

THE NORTH LIGHT COURT is City Hall’s most
versatile room. It is located directly off the Rotunda and can be
incorporated into a Rotunda event or rented separately.The room has
been restored to its original design with elegant marble walls and
skylights spanning the entire 7,000-square-foot space. This room
configures for a variety of events from lectures and presentations to
elegant dinners or weddings.

CITY HALL’S ELEGANT FOURTH FLOOR
galleries provide architecturally stunning venues for smaller gatherings
or private events, as well as exclusive reception or seating areas for VIPs
in conjunction with Rotunda events.The fourth floor is also ideal for
photo shoots or to showcase product for corporate events.
