2. Ross Kemp: Extreme World is
a documentary series shown
on Sky1. On the show, Kemp
travels around the world
talking to people involved in
illicit trades, locals who have
been affected by violence
and hardship, and the
authorities who are
attempting to combat the
problems. In each episode
he attempts to establish
contacts within the groups in
order to get close to the
ringleaders.
3. Mode
Extreme Worlds is produced in two forms of
documentary mode. The first is reflexive, where
Kemp can be seen in front of the camera narrating
the action or explaining a plan. This is an effective
mode for this action filled documentary because it
ensures the audience understand issues and
impacts of the action. The second mode the
documentary is produced in is participatory.
Throughout the series Kemp works with police or
contacts gang members for interviews which is
more than observing the situation.
4. Interviews
The documentary often contains interviews
from police officers and gang members in which
Ross Kemp is seen on screen. The interviews are
mostly on location as apposed to set up in a
studio. The interviews in Extreme World allow
the audience to understand the impacts of
actions and the insight of those who experience
it.
5. Documentaries
Sky 1 is not a renowned documentary producing
channel and is more known for children's
television and soaps. Sky 1 specialises in crime
documentaries such as Ross Kemp on Gangs,
The Real NCIS, Crimes That Shook Britain and
The Trials of Amanda Knox. Recent years have
seen an increase in the amount of
documentaries that Sky 1 has aired and shows
their intent to mature as a broadcasting
channel.
