12. WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO In 2011, WFA is proposing a six month coast-to coast journey across 8 southern Africa countries linking major conservation areas. Following historical elephant migration paths, this will be undertaken by foot and by kayak (Okavanga Delta). Regions outside of conservation areas and wildlife parks will be traversed by mountain bicycle.

22. HOW THE PROJECT WILL BE UNDERTAKEN The 5000 km journey will be undertaken on foot, bicycles and kayaks (Okavango Delta) and will be divided into different stages across designated conservation areas in Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Mozambique and South Africa.

25. HOW AWARENESS WILL BE RAISED WILDERNESS LEADERSHIP SCHOOL One stage in each conservation area will comprise a classic Wilderness Leadership School trail. Six participants will be selected from schools in their host country for each of these 8 trails. Candidates will be selected on their leadership skills and community involvement

27. AWARENESS … continued WILD LEADERS PROGRAMME A Wild Leaders programme will be carried out in each country. This programme is aimed at reinforcing the importance of wilderness and conservation concepts in the minds of political, corporate, community and conservation leaders. In particular, accent will be placed on the interface between leadership and conservation issues.

28. AWARENESS …continued Workshops around relevant environmental challenges will be conducted on site between selected stages. These will involve community leaders, stakeholders and wildlife managers and will focus on pertinent conservation management priorities in the areas. Prominent conservationists will be invited to participate in these discussions.

29. TIME FRAME The expedition will take place between April through September 2011. Planning including a full reconnaissance will be carried out in 2010. Post-project obligations (media production, reports, presentations and accounting) will be undertaken after the event.
