4. Subclass 485 ( Temporary Graduate)
• Graduate Work stream – for international students who graduate
with skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation on the
MSTSSL List. visa in this stream is granted for 18 months.
• Post-Study Work stream – for international students who graduate
with an eligible qualification. This stream is only available to
students who applied for and were granted their first Student visa
to Australia on or after 5 November 2011.
• Visa Grant period:
• Bachelor or Masters (coursework) = 2 years
• Masters by Research = 3 years
• Doctorate: 4 years

5. Subclass 485 ( Temporary Graduate)
Post Study Work stream –
Requirements continued
• you must meet the Australian study requirement in the last six
months (2 years or more of study in Australia)
• For University students this requires completion of :
• Bachelor degree
• Bachelor (honours) degree
• Masters by coursework degree
• Masters (extended) degree
• Masters by research degree
• Doctoral degree

6. Subclass 485 ( Temporary Graduate)
Post Study Work stream –
• What this visa allows you to do:
• Valid for 24 months from date of grant
• Unrestricted work rights for both primary applicant and dependent
spouse
• Provides the necessary work rights to seek further experience in
industry and look for employer sponsored permanent outcomes

• Alternatives to General Skilled Migration are employer sponsored visas
• NOTE THESE VISAS ARE UNDER REVIEW WITH CHANGES EXPECTED IN
MARCH 2018.
• 187 (RSMS) - IELTS = 6.0 each band
– Minimum salary determined by local authority not DIBP regs
– Occupation can be in variety of occupational roles ( Diploma level and higher)
– Must be regional location of employer
• 186 – (ENS) IELTS = 6.0 each band - Difficult for graduates
• Market salary + 3 year full time experience (38 hrs full time per week)
– Occupation must be on the MLTSSL List
• 457 –IELTS 5.0 - depends on nationality under reform with intent to
introduce 2 year work experience rules
– Minimum salary - $53 900 pa
– Market rates also required
– Occupation must be STSSL ( short term list)

• Most will only allow interstate graduates to apply for 489.
• Must meet the 887 requirements of living for 2yrs and working for
1yr in the specified regional area before applying for 887
permanent visa
• 190 pathway only available in ACT. No 489 option. Policies may
change for interstate graduates.
• 489 options will vary greatly from region to region within the
same state

• Major changes to separation of occupational lists into Medium term skills
shortages and Short Term skills Shortages lists.
• Occupations on Short term lists are intended by Government to no longer have
a pathway to PR – This is not finalised in law yet
• This affects most hospitality occupations except Chefs
– Permanent visa changes
– Metropolitan 186 ( ENS) and Regional 187 ( RSMS)
• Major changes due March 2018
• 186 pathways to be restricted to Medium term skills shortages
• 187 pathways still possible subject to finalized Regional occupational lists.

•Don’t be afraid to ask questions – never assume anything

•What is your experience in the area where I need help?
