1. A Prayer for Comprehension
Text: Ps 119:18
18) Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold
wondrous things out of thy law.
The seven wonders of the world are a
disappointing distraction when the soul seek
satisfaction.
David knows soul satisfying wonder is
found in supernatural instruction from God;
2. but if God does not allow it to be seen man
will observe, but never see God’s wonder.
Eph 3:17-19
17) That Christ may dwell in your hearts by
faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in
love,
18) May be able to comprehend with all saints
what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and
height;
19) And to know the love of Christ, which
passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with
all the fulness of God.
The professor may proclaim the virtues and
glory of light; but to a blind man the oratory
is wasted breath.
It is only when sight is given that light
moves from concept to comprehension.
3. Ps 119:18
18) Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold
wondrous things out of thy law.

4. I. Open
If a man is content with the sight of this
world God begins to dim his ability to
comprehend any thing greater.
Matt 13:13
13) Therefore speak I to them in parables:
because they seeing see not; and hearing they
hear not, neither do they understand.
[John 9:39]
2Cor 4:4
4) In whom the god of this world hath blinded
the minds of them which believe not, lest the
light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the
image of God, should shine unto them.
Ps 19:1-2
1) The heavens declare the glory of God;
[But most men never harken to it]
and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
5. [But most men ignore it]
2) Day unto day uttereth speech,
[But most men cover their ears]
and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
[But most men hide their eyes]
A Christian should know the scripture is key to
seeing the wonders of God, but most refuse to
spend any time in it.
John 3:3
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily,
verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be
born again, he cannot see the kingdom of
God.
1Pet 1:23
Being born again, not of corruptible seed,
but of incorruptible, by the word of God,
which liveth and abideth for ever.
6. Isa 29:10-12
10 For the LORD hath poured out upon you
the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your
eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers
hath he covered.
11 And the vision of all is become unto you
as the words of a book that is sealed, which
men deliver to one that is learned, saying,
Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot;
for it is sealed:
12 And the book is delivered to him that is
not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee:
and he saith, I am not learned.
Eph 1:17-18
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of glory, may give unto you the
spirit of wisdom and revelation in the
knowledge of him:
7. 18 The eyes of your understanding being
enlightened; that ye may know what is the
hope of his calling, and what the riches of
the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Ps 119:18
18) Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold
wondrous things out of thy law.
II. Thou
Only the creator can give true sight. Man, tries
and fails to find life’s meaning in a cemetery of
dead impostors.
From the ancient days till today the:
Philosopher
Poet
Psychic
8. And Professors
Have failed to answer the longings of man’s
soul.
Old Time River Man
Where does an old time river man go
After he's passed away
Does his soul still keep a watch on the deep
For the rest of his river days
Does he then come back as a channel cat
Or the wasps that light on the wheel
Or the birds that fly through summer sky
Or the fish swimmin' under the keil?
Where does an old time engineer go
After he's cooled her down
Gone up the hill to never come back
On the quiet side of town
Does his soul live on in the engine's song
While the striker checks the gears
Is he still afloat on an old steam boat
9. After he's gone from here?
Belshazzar was blind to the message in his own
language when God wrote on his wall.
In that as today all the vain gods of silver, gold,
brass, iron, wood and stone were of no avail.
(Dan 5:23)
Ps 119:130
The entrance of thy words giveth light; it
giveth understanding unto the simple.
Jer 15:16
Thy words were found, and I did eat them;
and thy word was unto me the joy and
rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by
thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
Ps 119:18
10. 18) Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold
wondrous things out of thy law.
III. Wondrous things
To “behold” is more than to hear, it is to
“harken”.
Jer 6:10
To whom shall I speak, and give warning,
that they may hear? behold, their ear is
uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken:
behold, the word of the LORD is unto them
a reproach; they have no delight in it.
God’s wondrous things are greater than life’s
troubles.
11. Ps 119:95-97
95 The wicked have waited for me to
destroy me: but I will consider thy
testimonies.
96 I have seen an end of all perfection: but
thy commandment is exceeding broad.
97 MEM. O how love I thy law! it is my
meditation all the day.
God’s law was given as a picture of future
wondrous things.
Heb 8:5
Who serve unto the example and shadow of
heavenly things, as Moses was admonished
of God when he was about to make the
tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou
make all things according to the pattern
shewed to thee in the mount.
12. Heb 10:1
For the law having a shadow of good things
to come, and not the very image of the
things, can never with those sacrifices
which they offered year by year continually
make the comers thereunto perfect.
Conclusion
Hos 8:12
I have written to him the great things of my
law, but they were counted as a strange
thing.
13. 1Cor 2:9-10
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen,
nor ear heard, neither have entered into
the heart of man, the things which God
hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by
his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things,
yea, the deep things of God.
Ps 119:18
18) Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold
wondrous things out of thy law.
