After having a baby it is hard shifting those pounds that have amassed throughout pregnancy.
Through personal experience I know exactly how it feels. I gained a whopping 60 lbs whilst I was
pregnant. I also noticed how my body changed shape and no longer looked toned. Nine months
later I have lost 52lbs and I am starting to get my confidence back by being comfortable in clothes.
It is recommended that for the first six weeks after having a baby you leave off exercise and
dieting so your body can recover from the labour. After these six weeks I started by simply cutting
down on my portion sizes and drinking a lot of water. If you breastfeed you cannot go on a crash
diet as you need to provide all the vital vitamins etc to your baby. I filled up on vegetables and
snacked on fruit. If I craved for anything sweet I would reach for raisins not chocolate and crisps.
After initially just cutting down my portion sizes, I started cooking healthy low fat meals and
stopped if I was full. I would make extra food and freeze it into portions for another day. Food wise
that is all I changed.
I exercise a few times a week. It is hard to find time to do so as your hands are full looking after
your baby but use this to shape up. Go for speed walks and take the pushchair with you. Rock
your baby to sleep in the pushchair and do lunges at the same time. Put a bit more oomph when
doing household chores and put some music and have a boogie while you polish etc. You do not
notice you are moving a little bit more and also your baby will be amused.
It has taken me eight and a half months to lose the weight without changing my lifestyle too much.
I have not binged or lost track I have just got on with it and I now feel good about myself and have
more energy.
