9. Yes, one of the benefits of syndicating content is that your users can subscribe to it, but equally important for me is that it allows me as an organization to get my content off my website so that it’s more visible where my users are. Most importantly, it automates that process so that I don’t have to spend precious resources manually updating a multitude of sites, inevitably forgetting about one of them. Who? – any blog using Wordpress, Blogger, Typepad, or other standard blogging software; any social network with status updates (Facebook, Friendfeed, Twitter, Flickr); any site that changes frequently (Google Reader’s new “any site” feature)What? Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary or a couple of other acronyms – basically a standardized way to provide information on the web, similar in concept to HTML, a subset of XML – all markup languages that provide meta-data to information in computersWhen? RSS posts are provided as soon as they are written or as soon as your feed reader checks for them. Good for frequent changes, news, anything that is somewhat time sensitive.Where? Everywhere! Why? Auto-creation of content; both for you and your partners in government (including private citizens); RSS is reusable (more on that later) and as such can provide lots of content for reuse by lots of people.
