Michigan’s Policy on Bullying Educate and train teachers  Anti- bullying  The state of Michigan has laws against Hazing and Sexual harassment but no current laws against cyber bullying (www.olweus.org)
Future Laws Preventing Cyber Bullying As of now it is up to the schools to deal with the issue of cyber bullying.  There are no laws prohibiting cyber bullying but school are taking action by changing their school policies  Hopefully their will be laws in the future to prevent children from having to deal cyber bullying

  1. Cyber bullying is any form of bullying done with the use of technology whether it is the internet or cell phonesCyber bullies are often anonyms this could leave the victim feeling stressed because they do not know who is causing them this pain.
  2. Cyber Bullying is becoming a growing problem in schools today. With so many kids affected it is up to schools to stop it. Statistics show that 25% of girls reported being cyber bullied in the past two months,And 11% of boys reported being cyber bullied in the past two months.
  3. Harassment- Insulting and rude messagesDenigration- Sending disturbing information that is derogatory and untrue this also includes sending digitally altered picturesFlaming- Fighting using angry languageImpersonation- using a person's online identity to send or post vicious or embarrassing material to othersOuting or Trickery- tricking someone into revealing secrets or embarrassing information and forwarding it to others Cyber Stalking- Repeatedly sending messages that include threats of harm or are highly intimidating
  4. Some signs of cyber bullying are sadness, lack of interest in social activities, and avoiding school. Some other signs of cyber bullying are a decline in academic performance, or a child appearing to be upset after using the computer or viewing a text message.
  5. Cyber bullying has a trend of increasing in elementary aged students and peaking during middle school years.Children experiencing cyber bullying may also experience traditional bullying in school

  10. Educate parents on cyber bullyingCreate a school atmosphere that allows students to feel comfortable reporting any cyber bullyingThe school should also encourage parents to talk to their children about cyber bullying and its consequences

  13. What should be concluded from this presentation is that cyber bullying is a growing problem in schools today. It is up to teachers to know the signs of cyber bullying and know of ways to prevent it. No child should fear coming to school let alone reading a e-mail.
