Description
In fiscal year 2020, the revenue generated from India's newspaper industry amounted to over 295 billion Indian
rupees, whereas the revenue generated from magazine industry was about 10 billion rupees. Overall, the print
industry in the country declined by over eight percent in fiscal year 2020 compared to the previous fiscal year.

Description
Of a total circulation revenue of 306 billion Indian rupees, regional accounted for the highest share, with about
36 billion rupees. Despite a drop in estimates from the impact of the pandemic, English circulation revenues for
print had stagnated in recent years and decreased that same year.

Description
When survey respondents were asked as of January 2019 whether they used any such alternative or partisan
news sites in the week preceding the survey based on their political affiliation, it was seen that supporters of the
United Progressive Alliance (UPA), a coalition of left and center-left political parties in India, used alternative
media the most with a 48 percent share. While those who were non-partisan in their political affiliation used
these websites the least. India has seen a rise of partisan or alternative news websites catering to certain
political ideologies to reach a small but specific audience.

Description
Digital media has made possible the growth of alternative and partisan news websites catering to certain political
ideologies. Like many other countries, India saw a rise of such news websites over the past few years. When
survey respondents were asked whether they were aware of any such websites, 29 percent said they knew of
The Logical Indian, whereas, Oneindia.com came second with 26 percent of respondents aware of the website.

Description
With low barriers of entry that the internet provides to create content, India has seen a steady rise in partisan
and alternative news websites. These websites tend to report news in a way that leans towards certain political
ideologies and hence end up having increased visibility. When survey respondents were asked whether they
used any of these partisan and alternative news websites, The Logical Indian, Oneindia.com and IndiaFacts.org
were the three most used websites. However, 56 percent of the respondents did not use any of the given
websites, an indication that these websites might be known but not many use them for regular news access.
