This document summarizes the results of a survey on internet usage conducted at Maharshi Dayanand College Library. The survey found that most students access the internet at college or at home to work on projects, communicate via email, and update their knowledge. Faculty members primarily use the internet for knowledge updating and accessing latest journals. While respondents were generally satisfied with their ability to find information online, some noted issues like slow speeds and outdated websites. The document concludes that internet literacy training could help users access information more effectively.

The Internet is a worldwide, publicly accessible series of
interconnected computer networks that transmit data by
packet switching using the standard Internet Protocol (IP).
It is a "network of networks" that consists of millions of smaller
domestic, academic, business,private and government networks,
which together carry various information and services, such
as electronic mail, online chat and the interlinked
web pages and other documents of the world wide web.

4. Need for the Study
• With the increase usage of internet libraries has
to provide the services with all modern
technologies.
• Libraries need to use the new exciting technology
for changing the total environment of information
dissemination, information accessibility &
information preservation.
• Since internet has been one of the major source
for getting information, there was a need to
understand the internet access pattern by the
faculty and students at M D College Library.

8. Objectives of the study
• To know objectives of the using internet by
college students.
• To ascertain the knowledge of users about
the internet resources.
• To identify the popular search engines.
• To determine the level of their satisfaction
with the services.
• To suggest ways of providing better
internet services to users.

9. Hypothesis
• In the present IT age UG & PG students would
be aware of internet resources & services &
hence extensively use internet for detail study.
• Internet being a source of information would be
of immense help to users. The resources &
services of M.D.College are adequate to meet
the growing needs of the users.
• In present information age, internet
connectivity would be provided by the library
for all the departments for the staff.

10. Methodology
• The methodology adopted for the study is
questionnaire based survey
• In order to carry out the study, a
questionnaire was designed & distributed
among the respondents.
• The study is limited to find the internet
usage.

11. Data Analysis and Interpretation
• Total 150 questionnaires were distributed.
Out of these 80 students and 35 faculty
members responded.
• The data analysis & interpretations is based
on a sample of 115 respondents out of two
categories viz. students & faculty members
of the college.

• Study shows that users are able to get
required information from the internet
but the users still feel need for
instructions & training for using internet.

no of computers available for internet.

• There is a need for information literacy
programme on how to use internet
effectively.
• Increase the no. of computers in library

21. Conclusion
• Internet usage increased as it is provided free by
the library to the students.
• Information lietracy in online environment is
needed.
• Study shows that the college libraries have the
major source of information. It is also that
majority of students visits the library only for
internet usage for printouts & project
preparation.
• Many users are still not using the internet facility
due to lack of information technology knowledge
• Students community uses it mostly for project
work. Faculty use it for knowledge up gradation.
