The video analyzes Saint Motel's music video "Puzzle Pieces". It follows an unnamed man through various scenes: playing piano as the song starts, mouthing words in a bathroom mirror, and attending a band's live performance at the end. The camera work adopts the man's point of view and has a handheld feel. The video also interweaves the man's relationship with a woman alongside the band's journey to their final show. Most of the editing uses match cuts to smoothly transition between scenes.

Video 2: Saint Motel – Puzzle Pieces
2. Saint Motel – Puzzle PiecesSound – At the very start of the video we see the
hands of the man playing the piano that matches the music
that is also playing. This is the first, but not the last, we see this
happen a few times as the band appears on stage. The only
time we see the words of the song actually being spoken by
someone is when the lead singer is in the bathroom and there
is a reflection of him in the mirror we see him mouthing the
words to the song. This is a typical convention to this song but
not to the band, they usually have a lot of actual footage of the
band or the person singing in there videos. Sound is something
we need to focus on in out video.
Camera Work – The camera work is all from the point of view of
the man. This is something that we would like to do in our
video. The camera work is strong and almost has a hand held
feel to it. the only time that we see the person who the camera
is being is in this shot to the last witch is over half way through
the song. Throughout the camera work is very fast and as though not a lot of thought has gone
into it. The camera also moves with the head as it would in real life, although it doesn’t seem as
really as it would.

Mise-en Scene – In this video we do see the band
playing and this is the main part of the video but the story line is integrated into this. The relationship
between the man and the woman is integrated around the band practice in the hall, and then to the
live performance at the end of the video it is almost as though there are two story lines running
alongside each other. The man and the
Woman and there relationship is the 1st
story line and then the band and there
journey towards there final show is the 2nd
story line.
This is a usual convention for this type of
video and is something tat I think we are
going to use in our own video. There are
several different scenes in this video all with
different set ups, lighting, camera work etc.
Editing – Most of the editing is match on action, witch is
where the action is carried on with some sort of motion.
There doesn't’t seem to be a lot of areas where it is
noticeable where it has been edited as it has
been shot as a continuous piece of footage, there are only
a few area that change from one scene to another and
selected area in the shot where you can tell that it has
been done, if it has then it is very slick and a smooth
motion, almost unnoticeable to make the editing more
smooth and the video a lot more smoother.
